I am almost always happy with my knits just after the projects are finished. Fast forward to a couple of wears are the project doesn’t look so good. Pilling is the main problem. My sweaters almost all pill. I’m so sick of it. Do all wools pill?

As a guy who knits... it's so hard to find patterns that are modeled by men! And a lot of the patterns are really not made for men in mind, especially since my proportions are different from the average woman's... I started a new sweater a couple months ago and ended up with something that is going to be way too small for my biceps even though it will fit my torso...

Maybe get a knitting machine to work up some swatches for your photos you post of you hand dyed yarn you are selling. This way it’s not so much work to create swatches for photos. Hand dyed yarns are expensive (for good reason) compared to yarns you buy at Micheal’s, Joann’s, etc… so if I’m not sure if the colors will work up nicely in a project, I’m not likely to buy it cuz I have a budget to keep to. If I could see how the color way works up when knitted, I’d be more likely to invest in buying the yarn.

First, I LOVED you Shakespearian take on frogging. Second, I'm a big frogger. I had a brown cable sweater laid out to piece together for over a year. I finally caved to the pressure and frogged the mess. 🐸 I also had a glossy pale blue yarn sweater knitted and hated it. 🐸 Now I can decide what projects those yarns are really meant for. 🐸🐸

Knitting, books, and heavy music are my hobbies. I am also turning 40 this year. My wife and I are voracious readers and we read a lot with our kids and listen to audio books on road trips. I just finished "The Fourth Wing" by Rebecca Yarros and it was pretty good for when you need a new book. It is definitely fantasy based and while there is a touch of a romantic theme throughout, but certainly captivating.

Jen Geigley has that sock knitting machine and after watching her use it I decided it’s probably just easier to knit socks by hand. There are so many steps it just seems complicated

I am a sartorial minimalist, but when it comes to my decor, and when it’s my own creative space, I tend to be a maximalist. 😂

The great turquoise/aqua debate! I was over 50 when I learned some people think turquoise is more green and aqua has more blue. I'm still in the aqua is a green blue and turquoise is a blue green "camp" as that seller's photo reflects.

Adding to the questions! Knitting cotton in stripes (white and purple) and realized that there might be some bleeding. Is there a way to hand wash/machine wash stripes and avoiding bleeding/color transfer?

Ahhh yes. This is the two million dollar question. My best suggestion is to use color catchers in the wash.

And your point is…? Also just to provide you with a bit of context, this is a format I’ve established since January. Eight weeks on, two weeks off. However, you may not be aware of that. Whatever aspersions you’re casting on me or my work ethic are unnecessary and not appreciated. 👍

The comparison of loaning someone a book versus photocopying it is totally accurate legally as I understand it-professors aren’t supposed to photocopy books to hand out in class because it’s a copywriter violation, just the same as the example you gave of a knitting teacher handing out copies of a pattern they only paid for once. I used to work at a university and we had a problem where professors wanted to scan chapters to post online for students in their classes, but it wasn’t legal. Of course they didn’t want to listen to me about copywriters law even though I was responsible for web and online class updates!

Beautiful color. Now I'm looking my yarn with different eyes because sometimes I buy yarn for something and a while after I see it and think why the hell I have this color?. 😅.

This was great! Unlike it seems almost everyone else, I’m a naturally tight purler. I can’t figure out why this would be the case, does anyone have any theories for what I’m doing differently? P.s. I just heard that diaper bags are an affordable water proof project bag option. The kind actually meant for dirty diapers, not the tote type bags.

For the sock knitting machine engineering knits I think mentioned a 3D printed CSM machine. I don’t know if you can find a 3D print file for it.

I have an additional thought concerning the question about garter stitch being "hungry". Garter stitch allows the purl bumps to sit right on top of each other, so the extra height you'd normally get with a knit stitch is offset. It's the only knitting stitch that is symmetrical, two rows in height equals 1 stitch in length. That's why your emotional support chicken is so squishy!

I disagree on the first point about mohair yarns! I have the most beautiful mohair lace yarn that I'm knitting an heirloom shawl for my sister's wedding with. It's from wagtail yarns in Australia, and it's softer than any other mohair I've tried including knitting for olive or Rowan.

Regarding making socks on a circular machine: Check out KZfaq creator “Engineering Knits”. She did a series on recreating a Victorian outfit and in the series she made socks. Great resource and her machine was quite affordable from what I remember. Look for “How were the Victorians so fast at knitting socks?” Over a couple of videos she shows all her trials and fails. Good luck.

6:02 I have 100% mohair lace weight in my will sell/trade in my Ravelry stash if anyone’s into orange! It’s actually shocking how much orange mohair is available for offloading there. 😂 In all seriousness, it’s LeeWard Dexters Italian mohair and is vintage but readily available on Ravelry, eBay, and Etsy in various colors. 14:24 It might help to look up 100% silk yarns on Ravelry, then look at associated patterns/projects that way, too. I find that just browsing by fiber will bring up more blends than single fibers.

The Addi Express will make sock-like tubes, but I don't like the finished product as a sock. You have to use worsted weight yarn and the size stitch is uncomfortable on my feet. I also can't get them to really fit (too tight in places, too loose in others. )
