A worthwhile upload, for a change, from SORTEDfood. Sorted should spend more time on these kinds of food journeys or explorations and less time abusing established recipes in their own test kitchen. It's better use of time spreading useful information than spreading bad ideas.

I have to say, having driven at least 7 road trips that were over 800 miles each way (usually in a day each way), and been a passenger for at least 8-10 that were 2500 mi each way, it was very entertaining to me hearing you hype it up as a road trip/big journey to go a couple hundred. It was very cute and made me check my biases a bit since not everyone lives in a huge nation.
@alistairbolden6340 Жыл бұрын
You have to remember that the roads in the UK are much smaller, not straight and you have to pay far more attention. You are often driving on the edge of a cliff with no barrier or down a road at 60mph thats only 10 ft wide so you have to pull into the hege if anyone is coming toward you. Unless you are on a motorway driving 200 miles in the UK can take all day.

In the US (where I’m from) I found the best fish & chips I’ve ever had in a very unexpected place. It was at the restaurant inside Mystic Seaport which is a maritime history museum in Mystic, Connecticut. In a way it’s not surprising. It’s the US’s premier maritime museum and it’s in a small seaside town in New England. They probably serve up hundreds if not thousands of servings of fish and chips on an average summer day. But the fish was super fresh and moist inside and the batter on the outside was beautifully golden and crispy. The chips were appropriately girthy, not American french fries. And they weren’t too soggy or overdone. And to top it off it came with what was clearly house-made tartar sauce. I wasn’t expecting such an amazing experience from a cafe in a museum but it’s become the standard I will judge all fish and chips to and was at least as good if not better than fish and chips I’ve had in Scotland.
