I ended up here after watching your video about the exhausts. This as I wasn’t sure if I would go for a full milltek system or go for stage 2 first which also includes a pulley reduction. I just need it to have more power directly so the exhaust system will have to follow after. Anyway, your vids helped me a lot to make a decision for now. Thanks, subscribed.

I also went for the 15% pulley. I like a spirited drive and don't need to think about the temps too much with a 15%. The actual bhp difference between the 15 and 17% pulley really is tiny and i'm not convinced i'd be able to tell the difference personally lol. You'll just get a bit more low down grunt with the 17% which isn't that important to me with my local B roads :D

100% agree! If you want to enjoy and not worry too often about IAT’s 15% is the option! 17% whine is louder though...

I bought a R53 S, facelift model, it came with a 17% reduction pulley all I've done is installed a Ram Air induction kit.. can't believe how fast it is Bro.. will now grab an intercooler, colder plugs, 550cc injectors.. just installed a Malian stainless exhaust.. and map it in the hope of around 220bhp stick some Dunlops on and set 4life LOL what a Great Little Car.. I Luv It... Top Video Bro Thumbs Up!!

@@SULKNATIONtv nearly ordered an MTC intercooler but after watching another of yr videos.. seriously considering to save up the extra and get a GRS motor sport intercooler in BLACK!! I need to thank you Bro.. also there is some great people also uploaded some fantastic videos that have also helped me BiG Time.. in buying a R53 S.. Stay Cool 🚙👍🏾

Thank you man, glad I could help! I’m going to get a GRS intercooler when funds allow! Just ordered an Ultragauge, so when that lands I’ll be doing in depth (hopefully 😂) videos on that! Also coming soon... Oil Catch Cans, ‘Dam Air’ and more! 😂👍🏻👍🏻

Dude like yourself mine came with the 17% pulley,and air tec intercooler, engine rebuild @99,900 miles and the direnza back cat . But on the Dyno it was 182 HP. So I had a mate @bhperformance in the West Midlands. Map it she /it is 200hp @6000 rpm. Just need the 550cc injectors to bump it up another 13 hp. Them possibly buy the de cat exhaust for the extra 30(ish) hp . ( Decat for in-between mot’s) 🤣🤣. I didn’t buy the car for the car I bought it for the engine. . I did have intentions of putting the r53 engine into my classic triumph herald . However I fell in love with the little bugger. And now I enjoy both. Classic triumph original 13/60. @59.1 up restored. And the stunning little mini which has no problem keeping up with my mates in there m2’s and M3’s. Thought I’d share this , 👍😎 stay safe stay awesome 😎👍

Look into a company that can take out the bmw program that’s in the computer that delays the boost coming in. If I can remember it lowers fuel pressure & timing ? Anyway, the boost comes on a lot faster. Won’t feel like turbo lag. Will be sending mine off soon. I’m also installing a quaff posi in trans. Will need the other tire to grab. All that boost on one tire wouldn’t be good. Have to replace my clutch and do supercharger service. Should be fun. Gotta find my sardine can opener !

I've got an R52. It's very very fun to drive but I'd like to stay with some R53's. It's approaching 93k miles right now with a custom exhaust. Still though I'm really wanting to do the pulley, plugs and intercooler. Is the supercharger service truly necessary?

A supercharger service at around 100’000 miles is definitely needed! You don’t want it to cease up through lack of oil… you can do it yourself though, so it doesn’t necessarily have to cost a lot of money. Kits of gaskets and the correct oil can be bought for around £50 and as long as you’re fairly handy with tools, it’s just a case of removing the supercharger from the engine bay and working on it by draining the oil etc. 👍🏻

I bought them directly off Jonathan English at Mod A Mini, he had them powder coated for me! They don’t really benefit the car much, but they do look 👌🏻!

I got my supercharger serviced at the same time as a full service and getting the reduced pulley on, so it was a fair whack of money! I can’t remember exactly how much the supercharger service was on its own with the reduced pulley being installed, but I think it was about £390-£400! I think… 😂👍🏻

What are those bars you have going from the strut towers to the chassis rails?

They are ‘Cabrio Braces’, standard on the R52 as they add some structural benefit due to the R52 being a convertible. They don’t really bring anything to the table for the R53 but they look good! 😂👍🏻

In theory, running the supercharger harder produces more heat, so that needs to be compensated for, larger intercooler, colder plugs etc. Also, when reducing the supercharger pulley, again in theory, to keep it in efficient operational boundaries, you should increase the size of the crankshaft and alternator pulleys, which I have also done. I ran the reduced supercharger pulley with a bigger intercooler for a year without issue before I ‘upgraded’ the other pulleys. It’s a very, very beneficial mod. 👍🏻

A 20% reduced pulley on a track MINI is madness even with meth and a very effective intercooler. You won’t have the additional power for long before the IATs go through the roof and the engine has to retard timing and run rich to cool itself down, negating most if not all of the power increase. Even a 17% is tough to keep under control and the supercharger is running way over its recommended rpm limit even with a stock redline which limits its life. I have killed an Eaton M45 like this already.

Hi buddy, so ‘colder spark plugs’ is reference to the tolerances of the spark plugs you have in the engine of the car. For example, If you have a modified car pushing more than factory power, then the cylinders of the car will get hotter dealing with the increased power, so colder plugs are a must to help the engine operate and manage the increase in performance. There is more to it than that, but you get the idea. 👍🏻
