FREE CAMPING 14-day limit
Sugar Hill Recreational Area
( 42.3868856, -77.0030561)
This free camping comes packed with amenities: flushing toilets, trash, water, picnic table, fire pit and even stables for your horses.
Only 10 miles from the town of Watkins Glen…… you are sure to find plenty of activities to keep you busy the entire 16 days. My only caution is check the NASCAR Race schedule as this may bring heavy traffic to the area.

Watkins Glen was my home town a loooong time ago. I am a hard-core fan of formula 1 racing, and the first time I ever went to a race was there. And my first job after being in the Navy was in that park. Thank you

I have lived in central NY my whole life, and i am so so sad that I have never been. 😢 I have an knee injury and not able to walk up that many steps. I pray me knee gets better and I can go down the steps in the future. Your voice has inspired me to keep getting out side. Thank you so much. Love & Light always Karen 😊and Miles 🐶 ps we are now subscribers 😀

We were there last last month and it was our second visit to the park in 7 years. It was just as magical as I remembered ❤. I had a picture of the main falls area blown up and framed. It relaxes me just looking at it. We absolutely love NY and vacation there alot! I'm from SW Pennsylvania. Im 66 so we took the shuttle up to the top and came down. It was just as difficult as when we walked up. My legs were rubber by the time we reached the end 😅.

I was there on my honeymoon 22 years ago. The thing I remember most about Watkins Glenn was the hardware store that had a wooden floor. I stopped in just to visit. Unfortunately we didn't do the state park and now I'm not sure I could make that hike, I know my wife couldn't. Opportunities missed. Keep the good stuff coming guys.

This whole video is great & packed with useful info, Thanks. The segment in the Glen was especially noteworthy. The filming was very professional, the narration just right. The constant water sound was perfect! I've been there a couple times & your video was like really being there again. The next time you come to New York, you might want to include The Adirondack Mountains. It is also a State Park but is six million acres. I'd be very pleased to provide sight seeing info & camping hints.

So glad you enjoyed the park and the town. (I'm a New Yorker - I live in the big city--and get so much flak about NYC, so it's nice to hear folks like you having something nice to say about New York State.) The tip you offered about fire towers is fabulous...I went to that site and boy oh boy, what they have listed! Thanks ever so much! As always, such a lovely video, that water gorge is "gorgeous" (no pun intended), so well video'd...what can I say? OH: what park is #1 in NYS? I'm on the edge of my seat!!!!

We are currently traveling west from Maine in our van. We had reservations at a harvest host for our night near Watkins Glen. Your last video came out just in time and we made a last minute decision to stay at Sugar Hill. I am commenting from site 14 at the campground. It is WAY more full than when you were here. Great job with your videos. We just downsized from a Class A after many years and we have been watching all your videos.

Thanks for dusting off my memories of the glen from childhood. My mom and dad went there for their honeymoon back in 1960. I have another great state park in the area for you, although I'm sure you've moved on by now. Stonybrook State park also has a gorge, although not has heavily landscaped as the Glen. It does have a "natural" swimming pool, which was created by damming the creek, and flooding the gorge. Something for your next trip to NY.

We pick a destination…. For example: when we leave are seasonal job we will be heading to Dallas, Texas. We first pick the route we want to take to get there….. usually the path less traveled! We avoid interstates as much as possible (unless we need to get there ASAP) we usually start looking for places to stay 4 hours into that drive. A lot of research is also done once we know we are headed in a certain direction.
