My local council here in the UK ran a fleet of 504 pick ups back in the early 90's. Kenya and Nigeria kept building them.

@@aswanationSo reliable and cheap to fix. Most of them here have gone due to age, value and rust. We only ever got the 2.3 diesel model.

It is a light weight truck. For loads up to one tone, it will be able to haul. For heavy carrying, then a hilux or L200 are better.

"Ladder frame chassis" is the term to use... Every vehicle has a chassis. But to answer your question, the only thing you should avoid when it comes to 504 pickup is overloading. Don't go beyond 1.35 tonnes which is usually its payload. Another thing is to have it reinforced underneath by an expert to add strength and firmness in order to avoid torsion, warping or any kind of failure due absence of the ladder frame chassis.
