There's no doubt Ramsdale has had a rollercoaster of a season so far. After displacing Bernd Leno as number one last year with some standout performances, many tipped Ramsdale to kick on and cement himself as Arsenal and England's top keeper.
But the arrival of David Raya on loan changed everything. Since Raya stepped in back in September, Ramsdale has been relegated to cup matches and the occasional league game. And his form has dropped off dramatically as a result.
Ramsdale’s shaky display against Brentford in the Carabao Cup last week seemed to be the final nail in the coffin. He looked a shadow of himself, nervy on the ball and lacking confidence. With Raya excelling between the sticks, it’s hard to make a case for Ramsdale to come back in right now.
And reports suggest Ramsdale has fallen out badly with Arteta too. Some say he was even told to leave in January as their relationship can’t be repaired. If true, it’s hard to see a way back for the 24-year old.
So what next? A loan move in January seems likely if Ramsdale wants to keep his England spot for the Euros next summer. But would he be happy playing second fiddle if he stays at Arsenal?
It’s a tricky one Gooners. Ramsdale still has plenty of potential but needs games and confidence. I want to hear what you think - can he save his Arsenal career or is this the end?
