You just have your strikers open up wide, and 5 to 10 steps from the midfield line to full sprint without being offside. This is reality in Gaelic Football! Since about 2021 teams started pushing goalkeepers out the pitch, first to press opponents goal kick, then eventually just to create overloads in possession. @AV57
@AV57 15 күн бұрын
@@wilder17the risk of giving up a goal late in the game is a small factor in the coach’s mind, because if they lose by 1 goal or 10 goals, it’s still just 1 loss, so the coaches don’t mind the risk at that point. All they’re trying to do is increase the odds of tying the game, which is very difficult without that extra attacker.

@SuccimusPrime

@@wilder17the stats dont matter because even if the odds are 1% better to win, you try it. Tho a big factor is that goal difference doesnt matter in Hockey. Thing is he played at striker equally well as he did in goal. Also moving him up to striker in the modern day in Europe’s top leagues would lead to any of the opposing teams simply scoring from inside their own box as the goalkeeper would be so comically far away from the goal.

@@a-turkey-in-abush7787 the goalkeeper was there, it just was not him. I feel like City could genuinely do this with Ederson if Pep was brave enough. A lot of the players and staff (both current and former) speak highly of his technical ability on the ball, and there’s even a clip where players like KDB and Gundo mention that he is the best penalty taker at the club (and he recently took one against Madrid). I just think it’s an absolute dumb risk to take though because the counter attacks would most certainly result in a goal.

That actually happens in Ice Hockey, if a team is losing by 1 or 2 goals, a couple of minutes before the end of the game they’ll take their goalkeeper off for an attacking player. The thinking behind it is that it doesn’t matter if you lose 5-4 or 6-4 if the opponent scores in the empty net but it gives you a better chance of equalising and taking the game to extra time.

This is like in futsal with fly keeper and it is a commonly used tactic when losing in the later period of the game To explain, a normal goalkeeper shall be playing in goal but when they have possession a sub (not needing a board or anything) will be made where on on court player will come on (wearing a goalie kit) and will play in the opposition's half to have as many time and touches as they want. On the other hand , when out of possession, another quick sub will be made and the keeper will come on for the player. Etc ...

I've started watching hockey recently and they do this almost every game if they're down in the final minutes. Id say about 80% of the time it leads to an open goal being scored on, with a 20% success rate. Obviously it's different with football since it would require a much further shot to succeed in scoring but the reality is that goal differential is a lot more important in football and can be the decider on who wins a league or a match with aggregate goals.

I've been thinking about this for some years now. And I think it makes all the sense. In Hockey when you're losing and need a goal you pull him and can put on another play which makes it 6v5. I mean in some other sports such as hockey pulling your goalie is common in the last few minutes if down a goal or two. Most of the time it doesn't really matter if you lose by one or two goals but if you even once manage to get equalize it might mean a lot at the end of the year. If you still have a substitution left near the end of the game then go for it.

If you've ever seen hockey, they do exactly that. The only difference though is that hockey standings aren't reliant on goal difference so losing 1-0 and losing 3-0 is effectively the same result. But in soccer, goal difference matters a lot more. And considering that in hockey goalie pulls only work about 15% of the time, that means that to rescue that 1 point for a draw will likely cost you 6-7 extra goals in lost games. The only way I could see this being genuinely useful is in a cup competition or at the end of a league season where goal difference isn't a factor and you know for certain what you need.

They already do it in ice hockey and it works. That’s a much faster game on a much smaller rink with more room per player due to the speed of the game. I reckon you could jsut have goal keepers who are genuinely good players rather than just long range distributors

This is exactly what futsal power play is. And even when this is popular trick, it sometimes backfires. So, I think it is wiser to use this kind of trick only in knockout match, when it doesn't matter if you concede 1 or 5. Never use it in league or group matches

This is essentially exactly what happens in ice hockey, we pull the goalie and put another player on the ice when we are down at the end of the game in order to try and tie it.

this is pretty common in indoor football, where the gk gets subbed for a player with a gk shirt on, this is so you can play with a numeric advantage

common strategy in hockey, and it is game changing to have an extra player when attacking. you have nothing to lose!

He's proposing the extra attacker strategy from hockey into soccer. For those who don't know, in hockey, you can pull the goaltender for a different player, usually a fourth forward, if you're down in the game or else waiting on a delayed penalty. In down situations, it's a way to try to push for a win while giving up the defense of the goaltender. In delayed penalty situations, there's very little risk of being scored against so you might as well get another offensive scorer on the ice. Either way, it'd be a interesting thing to add to soccer.

That’s exactly what teams do in hockey. If they’re down a goal, they’ll pull the goalie with about 2 minutes left in the game for an extra skater on the ice. It basically creates a 6 on 5. In hockey, it usually doesn’t work and sometimes for extremely specific reason (such as needing a better goal differential than another team to get into the playoffs) they purposely will take the loss instead of pulling the goalie. One of the reasons it doesn’t work well in hockey is because the rink isn’t that big, it’s 200 feet (60 meters) long. But, on a football pitch, it could actually be really effective assuming you can keep possession and lock down the wings.

This happens in field hockey but the catch is that a hockey player has to get a touch in his stick in the opposite circle. In case of football, players can shoot directly on goals without worries.

They do it in ice hockey all the time, it's called pulling the goalie. It's an insanely high risk strategy that backfires as often as it works but as a last ditch desperation move it's as good as anything else I suppose.

Interesting concept. Could see it taking off and all of a sudden a few Irish players end up being in premier league teams again with the background of GAA, would help having experience, like when John O'Shea had to go in goal because of Van der Sars red card

So basically like in ice hockey. In the last couple of mins the losing team usually pulls the goalie out and play with “empty net”. The only difference though that in hockey there’s no limit of substituting players in and out, which makes it easier to execute.

Surely this is why so many clubs buy goalkeepers who are good with their feet? I feel it would be worth the risk having someone like Ederson or Onana who can pick out a long ball but is also capable of making a save

They do this in futsal, it’s called playing 5th man. Essentially sit in the oppositions half with an outfield player as a keeper, moving the ball left to right. The extra man advantage works in your favor moving the defense side to side, tiring them out and leaving openings for shots or a back post pass for a tap in. It’s high risk high reward, used normally in the dying minutes of a game if you’re losing, or drawing but you need a win. José must know his futsal! It’s also a lower risk of conceding compared to futsal because of difference in pitch size. Would love to see it happen in Football!

Rooney back at United was 4th choice keeper of all 3 other choices were injured or suspended. It never truly had to had to happen in any league game. But I imagine this scenario would have worked well. Subbing a keeper for another striker and putting Rooney in goal. His ball distribution from the half way line would have been ideal, plus we all know he could track back defensively too

This is a pretty good idea in some situations, but I think that generally the trend will be for goalkeepers developing good enough passing skills that it’s not worth replacing them for a midfielder.

In hockey, teams do this all the time, its called an Empty Net, or 6-on-5. Where if teams need a goal, they will pull the goalie and put in another skater. Makes games very chaotic at the end. I can see this working in soccer too, granted 11-on-10 soccer probably won't be as chaotic as Empty Net hockey
