Neat little box, it seems like there are a couple tiny compromises that make it not the perfect machine but "good enough" for some uses. It seems like if they could cut the price down (or when these are on the used market in a couple years), it would be a great "do it all" machine.

@@alanbraithwaite4724 Heh, well the internal slot *is* big enough for the Pi-KVM CM4 PCIe card, so you could boot a Pi in there for IPMI :D

I doubt a machine like this that checks all the boxes and takes three months to arrive (unless you're a KZfaq influencer) will drop in price in a couple years. Plus, the Tiny Mini Micro effect and Joe Biden's economy will keep it unobtanium for the average homelabber for quite some time. I can't wait for my three MS-01s to arrive!

I think that it was either Patrick or Wendall who said that they wished that the chassis was JUST a bit taller so that you would be able to at least fit a dual slot, low profile GPU in there -- because that would be awesome. I think that Jeff from CraftComputing also talked about some expansion card incompatibilities as well. But once you apply the Intel microcode update to a Proxmox install -- it can be a very potent machine. My current "do it all" Proxmox server (with dual Intel Xeon E5-2697A v4 processors) is currently carrying a load average of somewhere between 30-120 as I just redeployed my Plex server, via a LXC container, that's sharing a RTX A2000 6 GB (between multiple LXC containers), and said redeployed Plex server is now re-indexing stuff.

5:46 indeed, "it is insane" how "so much much you can do with this" is limited with SFF form-factor for otherwise capable specs hardware. It does make a potentially interesting low-power 4x SPF+ with 2x Aux interfaces router, but then again at that price point its a premium for SFF constraints while any Supermicro mobo with two x8 slots will do the same (for fraction of cost used).

Is there a way to create a SAN for ESXi with this machine? I mean with sfp+ it would be very nice to connect it to a little storage(most NAS Systems support iSCSI) for a bigger Datapool and you can use a faster raid option than the internal RAID 1 of the ms 01 which is managed by the cpu so u lose performamce.

Hardware RAID is generally considered unnecessary these days, software RAID can use core processing power and with the number of cores available on a system like this it will be faster than and just as reliable as a dedicated hardware RAID chip.

I can't say anything about the hardware itself because I am still waiting for my order, but If I knew about the long shipping times I would never order the MS-01! At first there were some delays because of chinese new year hollidays, now it seems there are some problems with the power supply at the factory. I'm not sure if to believe anything Minisforum says at this moment Be aware, since they charge you the full amount on day one of your order and you wait MONTHS for the order to arrive.

Is it just me, or does it seem like most of the problems with this unit is that they ran out of space? I mean, just design it a little bit bigger, next generation. Yeah, people gonna be OK with that. We'd MUCH rather have the functionality and room to work with. It would still be small enough. Why does it need to be so little, to begin with? It's not like it needs to be portable! It doesn't run on batteries. You'd still need to plug it in. Also, I'd want more gen 4 or 5 NVMe slots, so I can use larger capacity drives. Gen 3 is pretty llmited in size. I don't care about the speed so much as the capacity in a system like this, since we don't have the space for adding more drives.

Their page say : "DDR5-5300 MHz Dual Channel (SODIMM slots ×2, up to a total maximum of 64 GB)" - but an article on servethehome w/ the i9 13900H model claims 96 GB RAM, is has a window$ settings screen capture that show : "96.0 GB (95.7 GB usable)", so yes it is working with that amount of memory (Hmmm, this likely smells of ZFS…)

Hi, I just made a research about USB4 and SATA I/F and found a result (@newegg) with a Maiwo 4 × 3.5" HDD (≤ 16 TB) bay, doing RAID 0, 10 & 5 (don't care) plus JBOD (care a lot) and a 4k HDMI output for a quite cheap bargain ($150), which means you can hook 8 HDDs using two of them on both USB4 of this computer - that make it quite a powerful file server even able to make some calculations while serving the lab (well, the lab or up to a medium size office - that makes it a game changer for cheap HA setups). Not bad, not bad at all - thanks for the video as I did not knew this kind of machine existed yet.
