Honestly, I had no interest in a travel bass--not necessary at the moment. But this bass sounds tremendous to my ear! Far out! Will pick one up from Sweetwater soon. :) Oh! Question! What scale length strings should be used? I know the neck is 32", but should the strings be long scale due to the unconventional tuners?

I have one and I love it! Despite its being medium-scale, it accepts long-scale strings. The TB-4P is also very lightweight.

This is my everyday bass because it's very light and has a headphone out for easy silent practicing. I've sticked on mine a mini rechargeable bluetooth receiver on the aux in so basically I can practice wirelessly. The model I have is the previous sunburst with a rosewood fingerboard. It's not mentioned here but you can press the tone knob and cycle the 4 built-in effects - clean, boost, drive, distortion. My only con with this bass is you need to adjust your popping because you end up hitting the D tuner.

Your comment on the tuning issue also applies to their 6-strings (guitars) of similar design. Part of the issue, which I've somewhat sorted out on mine with a slight modification, is that the plastic wheels that separate the string path guides (not sure what they're really called), do not roll freely on the stainless steel rod that runs through them. some of the larger wheels are tight to the body while others are slightly looser. This, I believe, causes the whole mechanism to pivot somewhat along its length. Replacing the tuning system with a proper bridge suited to the no headstock design would fix the issue 100% but I suppose that with so much of their corporate cache invested in the "tuners in the body" idea, it would be tough to make such a change. All in all, pretty amazing instruments.

I play this bass a lot when I´m on vacation. I still did not find a better one, so here is my recommendation. @travelerguitar : Still three points should be updated: First of all the screw to adjust the pickup should be flush-mounted in the pickguard. It is located exactly where you want to rest your thumb. Second the aux and headphone jacks should be on the front and not on the lower body. When you want to play seated with small space you risk bending the cables. Better even: There could be an onboard bluetooth transceiver. And third there should be an built-in tuner. It´s a travel bass! And it´s headless! Maybe a last thing that would help: to identify the machine heads. I always have to check on the backside if I´m tuning the right string. But all in all: it works! The headphone does a good job and the built-in OD/dist. makes sense.

I’ve had the same traveler for years, a lot of fun and more than for travel it makes a great quick grab for practice or a backup for gigs if I’m maining on acoustic and don’t want to haul a second hard case into a tight load in location or small performance space. Though I’ve recently added a fender U bass and put on some Kala flats, and it has since supplanted the functionality I got from the traveler.

Headless basses should come with built in tuners since you can’t use clip on ones for on the fly tuning.

guys, you forgot to talk about the boost, drive, distortion setting tha is included in the bass, is super useful :D (it can be activated by pushing the tone knob)

I've got one of the "even more compact" ones and it's pretty sweet. It's not as versatile as this one - piezo pickups and no tone knobs/etc. but I figure if I'm going for a hardcore travel tinybass why hedge on "versatility" ? that's not the point here!

The perfect travel bass wouldn't be a poorly-made toy from a mysterious factory "overseas" (try to find more specific info on their website, and they try to trick you into thinking they're still made at the old Fender factory) you can't fly with easily. The way to go is a professional instrument with a quickly and easily detachable headless neck. These exist, I have one, and there is no going back. If you're a hobbyist who sticks to busses or trains, I suppose this is ok.

Of course you can buy a Fodera Imperial Mini-MG, that would probably be the "perfection" but for 500-is quids this one sounds not too bad.
