Sadly, tourists do step on the corals and break them. That is why Malaysians generally prefer our islands to remain under rate and not over crowded.
@BucketListTravellers
@BucketListTravellers Жыл бұрын
That is a shame and an issue in most touristed places sadly. We want to keep Malaysia under rated for ourselves too!

Amazing video again guys, loving the Malaysia Island Tours. This island might be my favorite of the island. Liv and I might need an extended stay in Malaysia to venture to ourselves. I love how they have there own many different beaches and vibes depending on what you want.

Thanks Darren and Olivia!! Malaysia is so awesome, and underrated in our view relative to Thailand and Indonesia (Bali). Yes definitely spend a couple of weeks here if you can manage it. It is also so easy and cheap to hop around the country with either cheap bus fares or cheap flights with Air Asia. I feel another collab coming on!😜

@@BucketListTravellers We did not go to Perhentian Besar. It would be interesting to compare. It was such a laid-back type of vacay when we were there. We were mainly hanging out on the beach, under the palm trees, and going out on snorkeling trips. I definitely plan to go back and maybe this time stay at Perhentian Besar.

@@azizanaziz3376 Yep, that's the sort of vacay we enjoy too! Besar is perfect for that! In our research for deciding which island to visit, we thought Kecil might be more of a party island, so we decided to steer clear of that as that isn't our scene!

awesome video! I am planning a trip in june. If you have to pick perhentian island vs. redang island, what would you pick? is it worth it to maybe go to both on the same trip? let's say maybe 4d3n on perhentian then go to redang for 3d2n? if not , then where else in malaysia is worth going after perhentian (or redang)?
@BucketListTravellers
@BucketListTravellers Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Ohhh tough question! We would say that Perhentian islands are generally cheaper with more accommodation options. If you are after just a lounging at the beach holiday then your suggested timeframes would work well. You could spend a day or two at either Kuala Terengganu or Kota Bharu and eat yourself silly with great North East Malaysian cuisine. If you want to hop to another east coast island then you could try Tioman island as well. My 2 cents worth as a local. Tioman is mainly having Singaporeans or foreign expats living in singapore. But there are tourists from elsewhere. It does not have many top class accommodations there. Limited and hidden gem. Kapas island is where mainly locals go Rawa is private, therefore pricey. Only rich tourists can afford That leaves lang tengah, redang, perhentian. Redang is mainly having Asian tourists like Japanese, Koreans, Hong kongers, locals. Very family friendly resorts. It does not cater to backpackers. This was because long ago a Hong Kong cum Taiwan movie was filmed here Lang tengah is between redang and perhentian. Lang tengah is famous for baby sharks I must agree with you perhentian islands attract many australians, Europeans. Perhaps due to off loading of tourists from koh samui, koh pha ngan, koh tao

Hey Keang, thanks for your insights, very interesting! We have been recommended Kapas island before in other comments (probably from you too!) and didn't know much about it. We haven't heard about Lang Tengah and will have to get to that island next time! Yeah, Rawa island looked soooo expensive and the reviews were ok, not great.

My verdict on our beaches. 1. Never crowded 2. Not too many boats anchored on the beaches.
@BucketListTravellers
@BucketListTravellers Жыл бұрын
Hi Keang I agree! It is funny, we visited many beaches along the east coast of Malaysia and were often the only people on the beach or in the water. We weren't sure whether this was a cultural thing or not. What do you think?
@keangwooichoo6138
@keangwooichoo6138 Жыл бұрын
@Bucket List Travellers I am not a beach person but this is my observation as a local. 1. It is pretty hot in the afternoon, so we do not go sunbathing or swimming. It will be crazy to get sunburn. Painful. 2. We go out in the evenings to enjoy the breeze or sunset. 3. I know Westerners will say we Malaysians do not know how to enjoy our great beaches unlike in Australia, Europe, USA. But the fact is many Malaysians do not know how to swim. 4. It may or may not be religious or cultural. Muslims want to cover up(east coast is conservative), difficult to swim in public areas but I do see them in waterfalls though. 5. Only a few islands are a favourite with locals, not all depending on budget. I think kapas island is well received by locals as it is near mainland. Coming from west coast, I like pangkor, penang, langkawi. In sabah, they have many beautiful islands there. These are visited by locals and tourists due to proximity to kk and sandakan and semporna.
@BucketListTravellers

@@keangwooichoo6138 Thanks so much for your insights Keang. Yes, we thought it could be a combination of a couple of things like inability to swim and conservatism.

Which island is best for snorkeling, especially snorkeling from shore?
@BucketListTravellers
@BucketListTravellers 6 ай бұрын
We found Perhentian Besar to be good for snorkelling just offshore. Whilst we didn't do the same on Tioman island, we have been told that the shore snorkelling there is very good. We would rate both these better than the shore snorkelling that we experienced in Redang island.
