I will. My winter pack is usually 15 kg at the lightest. Includes beer that. It’s not as heavy as people think. I’ll go between 15-18 depending on which tent I take. I can still carry it so no problem there. 👍

Update. I’ve been out in some cold conditions-7 and have been warm each time. So this is a good set up. 👍

I would be tempted to add a Snugpak Fleece liner. About £35, keeps your bag clean and helps extend its life (machine washable) and very, very warm!

I use a reflective eggshell Matt from alpkit. I also have the STS sleeping bag liner.

Good stuff a liner adds even more to the bag. I should get one but last time I got tangled in it 😂. I tend to move around a lot.

I've the same set up just been torn between the mats, currently have a S2S comfort plus and was looking to get the xtherm or the S2S xt but I think you've just sold me on it mate. I've had my Rab 1100 since Dec last year bought for winter and then Boris put us in lockdown so its been sat there 12 months 🤣🤣🤣 can't wait to get out this winter tho, Great video Andy 👍

I think with the foil mat your current mat will be enough. But can’t really tell what the winter will be like. I’m hoping for a few snow camps at least. Cheers for watching atb 👍

Great Setup Andy, you are going to be toasty in any UK harshest of Mountain weather. I have a foil mat just like that one, then I have an exped Dura 8r air mat which has an R rating of 7.8 then for summer a Mountain Equipment Starlight 2 and for Winter a Rab ascent 900 and a 1100 (I know, don't worry only take one on Wild Camp).

For me ; Foil Mat. (Agree completely). Thermarest Xthem Wide / Large UGQ Bandit Hybrid Quilt (-18c). Keeps me warm in absolutely crazy cold.

Good watch, I'm still stuck with mates that want to go to the Bigg Market on the weekend ! No vision ! I though Covid might of broaden their horizions ? I live 1 minutes drive away from that gan ootside shop (next to MacDonalds) I aspire to greater things. Thanks for the info. Maybe one day !

Quality sleep system that. I have a similar set up using a Robens Couloir 750 bag - Exped Synmat Winter mat and also use the cheapo foil mat, which is not only an extra insulated layer it also adds another layer of valuable protection below the expensive mat. Spot on mate, roll on winter 👍

Those foil mats are great. I’ve used one for years and always will. I loved my synmat till the chambers started popping. I’m hoping this lasts me a long time. Hopefully will. 👍

I think if you go out as much as you do even in winter then this set up is worth the money. Like you say I’ve watched a few of your videos where you’re suffering cold. So upgrades are the natural progression. Good look through. I like the mat best of all.

Yeah hopefully get the winters out of this lot. Summer kit is pretty much sorted. This year was good for that. It’s too expensive changing it all the time 😂 👍

Bought my winter set up Last week. Same mat as that and sea to summit spark IV bag can’t wait to try. I think can get away with cheep kit in summer but in winter you need to be real if you want comfort and safety

I have the foil mat,a 1” thick roll mat,a trekology ul 80,and a sea to summit aeros delux pillow,as im a side sleeper,i need it! Super comfy,with my snugpack navigator bag its great,i would recommend the foil mat,they do make a difference!

I got the same STS air matt (but in large) earlier in the year; it was £186 but it's worth every penny 👍 That Ascent 1100 looks very cool, well, very warm! 😁 I'm not convinced about foil foam mats, I think the foam might be the most effective bit (I dunno), but at that price then fair enough tis a bargain ☺

Foil mats are the key. Honestly you could use a summer mat and be warmer by at least 5 degrees. I reckon. I was amazed by the thing.

Andy check out Wiggys Sleeping bags from Colorado USA absolute the best you can buy, I imported mine from the states and can go down to -30 ,obviously won't get them type of temperatures in UK but the best part of them is you can wash them as many times as you want,leave them in the Stuff Sack etc and they do not lose their loft. There is a video where you can get in the bags wet through and by morning you will be dry ,it's a technically advanced fill called Lamilite and the bags are awesome

I’ve had years of sleeping in all my clothes. Hopefully I can shed a few layers and be more comfy with this set up. Aye pricey but it’s taken me 3 years to get here 😂 Atb 👍

You would do better to get a bag with much higher loft rating. That bag has down with a loft of 650 which these days is very low. Typical high end bags now use down with a loft of 850 with the best going up to 1000. The end result is a lighter, warmer bag.

I’m using a thermarest ridgerest on bottom of my thermarest xtherm just need a rab accent 1100 just to complete , have been using the robens couloir 350 but due an upgrade 😁 , good sleep system you’ve got mate 👍

Sounds a good set up. In the link for the Rab I think is the cheapest. But out of stock. Typically. See if you can get on the mailing list for when they’re back. An excellent bag imo. Not everyone’s cup of tea but I love mine. So comfy. 👍

Andy, if you go back 20 years then you could have bought a whole 2 bed flat in some parts of the North East of England for the money that tent and sleep system cost. I married a Geordie so I know that for sure! 😁

They’re hard to get at the lower price. I think they’ve caught on. Rab bags got a bad rep but they’ve definitely improved them now. I’ll be reporting on the sleep when it comes to the cold camps. 👍

I currently work for the Mountain Boot Company just past the Tyne Tunnel, they stock an awful lot of Sea To Summit kit, if you ever need something they'll be worth checking out.

Nice set up Andy, I'm sure that will keep you toasty, Although I'd personally add a good quality roll mat too, something like the (original 1 inch thick) XL Dutch Army mat, for those really cold nights. A good quality roll mat has far superior heat retention properties than the best winter inflatables, no matter what the R rating says, a roll mat is for heat , an inflatable is for comfort, for the coldest of camps I use a Helinox lite cot combined with a Dutch Army roll mat or any cheap inflatable, a foil groundsheet and a Carinthia defence 4 (+Tropen if needed -20) 🙂 ATB.

They make a huge difference. First time I used one I was amazed. Was only 1 sided too. The double sided ones are unreal. 👍

Looks good comfy geat . I just got the British army modular system , seems like it'll keep you warm but it is mahusive and fairly heavy 🤔 only winter mat I got is a multimat 38 which is comfy enough and keeps the cold out . Anyway handy to see what people with e perience use . Take it easy man 👌

Loads of options. I just reckon this is a good balance for the hills. It’s not that heavy. The mat is less than a kilo. Army stuff is good but yeah. A bit heavy for old gippers like me 😂

Yeah we’ve had some chilly nights like. I’m hoping I can justify these products if not. ebay 😂 I got the bag £100 cheaper than the current price and I saved for ages for the mat. The foil mats are really cheap but really good. Even for not so cold camps. Takes the chill off the tent floor. Atb 👍

Hi Andy great video. Would you still recommend the Ether Light XT Extreme over the Thermarest as I noticed you were using the Thermarest on the last video? I already have the regular width Thermarest but find it too narrow for me so was looking to upgrade to one of the wide versions.

I can still recommend the ether lite. However mine now has a puncture. S2S weren’t very helpful in advising about repair. So it’s in my box of “stuff to do”. This new uberlite is really good. But I’m on my second. However 😂 again. Thermarest replaced it no problem. Excellent service. It’s warm too. Coupled with the foil it’s plenty warm. And the width is great. Pack size it small too. (Expensive though)

Wish sea to summit would start making wide mats but reg lenth. What stopped you going "large"..Id be miffed if my elbows touch the ground on regular mats when i lie on my back. Thanks for the informative vid as usual 🙏

I bought a exped down mat hl winter just before the xt extreme came out 🙄 not used it yet feels reasonably comfortable but just feels really small to lie on 🤔 on paper same size as my etherlight xt will give it a go I guess..not convinced by it tbh

Been looking at that mat myself in the wide version and just need to find a wider sleeping bag to suit now, been using a quilt all year but don’t think it will cut it below -3 or -4 but I just don’t get on with sleeping bags! Canny video though :-)

The Rab bag is wider than the 900. It’s squarer. I find it really roomy. Also the mats do come wider. I think they’re the £200 ones though 😥😥😥😱😱😱 there’s lots of choice. I just really like this set up. 👍

Take a look at exped Downmat. My old one was £75. Lasted nearly 3 years of constant use like. 👍

How does the underside of a double sided reflective mat work to keep the heat in? Does it stop the cold of the ground from penetrating? I don't get it.

Not too bad really. Maybe 1.5 kg extra to my usual set up. It’s only 2 cans less 😂 I reckon worth the weight when you’re kipping in -10 👍

Foil mat great, that mat crinkles like billyOh or Russel Bag looks epic. I have a Nemo Astro lite, Carinthia Defence 4 and British Army thermals. Snugpak and newer PCS thermals. Need a foil mat like 👍🏻

Bit rustley (is that a word) but not that bad. Just amplified cos I’m in the house. I’ve had it put up Robinson remember. Slept like a log. Never heard it. And yep. Definitely get the foil mat. Best bit of kit by far. 👍

Hi there. Enjoying the reviews. Do you know if there is much of a difference between the rab ascent 900 and the rab ascent 1100?

The new 900’s have been improved my older one has a lot of cold spots. The 1100 is much fuller and is bigger when packed if I had to choose I’d pick the 1100 👍

I got one of those double foil blanckets,same one you got,but i haven't camped without it whens its been cold so iroincly dont know how much difference its makes,but im also not willing to find out lol

It makes a huge difference like. Tek it next time. Even when it’s not Baltic you’ll feel the difference. It’s basically the best bit of kit EVER. 👍
