When on a military course an old friend of mine was there who had gone into the SAS. At the end of the course he said I should go for selection as he said I had what it takes. I said no thanks for 2 reasons, 1. I know my own limitations and 2. I am not fucking crazy! 😉👍😜

The SAS often conduct training exercises up here in the Highlands (of Scotland). Every now and then there's a funny wee report of a dog walker or hill walker absolutely bricking it when they're in the middle of nowhere enjoying the peaceful wilderness one second, and the next second they're surrounded by a squad of SAS who appeared out of nowhere and used them as a training target.

Remember when I was little having about 30 SAS sleeping in the back garden after a party my parents through. They are a unique breed and very loyal

Apparently during training for the SAS there was a test where you had to climb Mount snowdon and get back down in a set time, one soldier broke his leg on the way up but carried on and only missed the time limit by a minute or two and still got rejected

The youngest British soldier to die in WW2 was a very young boy named Reginald Hamilton Earnshaw. He was just 14 years 5 months old. It's fair to assume here, he probably lied about his age.

Near where I live is a place called the brecon beacons, they often do their three day ex there. There are stories from people who live around there, especially little isolatated sheep farms, about missing washing, food gone from the fridge, find that someone was sleeping in one of the animal pens. I've even been told that sometimes they leave note asking not to ring the police or the base because getting arrested by the villige copper isn't a great look.

UK equivalent to ISA is the SRR ) special reconnaissance regiment). Note the SBS (Special Boat Service) who are twins to the SAS but work more in maritime missions. I believe you can join the SEALs from civilian life but SAS/SBS are mostly either paratroopers or marine commandoes - two of the toughest basic training units worldwide.

On average one soldier every two years has died during SAS selection in Wales alone. Since 1984 20 soldiers have died in Wales during fitness and endurance tests.

No matter _WHAT_ Americans may claim during banter battles, their incredible special forces units are good, but not _quite_ as good as the British S.A.S. I know it hurts lads, but it's the truth.

Dont know much about the SAS but my job some years ago had some of our trainees getting insentive training from an SBS guy. They didnt just do better in a field gun competition against the matalots .They creamed them

People die during the training on a semi-regular basis, I take my hat off and salute anyone who has passed any part of the SAS training, it's a test of physical and mental fortatude.

About 5 years ago we went through a freak weather phenomenon where it was hot in England 😲 Anyway a soldier died on the peaks doing a 40 mile march

I was in the royal signals,i went to the wrong dorm not knowing the SAS dorm with some lads we walked in, put our gear down, and noticed other gear in the corner of the room a knife was around my neck and the other lads grabbed by their arms They asked us what we doing here,we explained we made a mistake while the knife was on my skin I started laughing and said if I had that knife on your neck you would not be here right now . He took the knife away told us to fuck off ,i turned round and said thanks for the surprise party . Few days past i went in my dorm after passing there was a package on my bed i looked in ,it was the very knife that was on my neck with a phone number to call if i wanted to join.

Us Brits have our own version of the Intelligence Support Activity (ISA) unit its called the Special Reconnaissance Regiment (SRR) and is part of UK Special Forces (UKSF) alongside the SAS and SBS.

My uncle was 16 when he signed up, he retired as a Major and even worked with the U.N designing protection for military jeeps/trucks in Iraq & Afghanistan.

My wife's driving is another ! Another thing to look at is trooping the colour when some arse fired blanks at her majesty while she was on horse back, her calm composure is inspirational and the reaction of one of the guards rules .

A pal of mine, a physically very imposing bloke, his father was a second world war SAS instructor and they both went to an SAS reunion. Some of the men talked with my pal and told him that he had them in tears, he worked them so hard. One of the men said something out of order and his father hit him so hard that he went straight through the canvas side of the lorry they were travelling in. Tough men in tough days, you won't find many of them on the streets now.

I have been working in Sennybridge camp in Wales were SAS selection takes place they were finishing a 40 mile run and fire their weapons on a 100 mtr range then clean ther weapons, I was the running the Armoury for my Royal Irish Company and a squadron of 3 Sqdn RAF Regiment, the guys on selection were using the old SLR L1A1 they never seen it before one of the Direction Staff (SAS Training Wing) I heard the DS staff yelling my name they both knew me and told me they would RTU the guys on selection if I gave them hints to strip their SLRs I still haven't a clue who they were I have seen them since and they knew me very well .

Hi JT One of you Wales fans here.🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 The next thing you should react to is a programme on Channel 4 (in the Uk) called SAS Who Dares Wins where members of the public go through the SAS training and each week maybe one may leave voluntarily or they may be kicked out for not being tough enough. It is a real eye opener to what the real soldiers go through, it is exhausting just to watch and scary for the things they are put through.

They do the march in the Brecon Beacons. They call it 'The Fan dance'as it goes over 'Pen Y Fan'. The highest hill in the area.

SAS set up by David Sterling during WW2. They were in North Africa, they were expected to nick most of their equipment, which they did, including a piano!! What use a piano had in a theatre of war I haven't figured out.

They have done tv shows showing people trying to pass a version of SAS training. The interrogation part was what I thought was worse because it’s not some guy screaming In your face, they come with simple friendly questions but if you answer anything you’re out

The SAS used to do their training where I lived in North Wales. It was a quiet and very small village, but we had chinooks etc passing by every couple of weeks. And we'd stumble across guys in training on a walk along the beach... We were told that they had to hide themselves from all us public, and if they were seen then they failed. We kinda got used to the creepy looking camouflaged men in the sand dunes during certain times in the year, and pretended we didn't see them lol. Sounds freaky, but it was just what it was lol

Ollie Ollerton has a great Podcast explaining parts of the selection. In the escape and evasion phase, he actually failed the 1st time and had to do it again on retrying selection, he said you get a full search, holes and all for any thing that can help you cheat. He ended up swallowing some £ in condoms with a few other guys doing it too, giving them a good £80 for food and snacks. In field he then got rid of the ww2 style clothing they give you and found a civvi bomber jacket and hid with a few guys in a house that was having construction done to it. When it came to going for a shop run, he got to the shop and collected together £80 worth of snacks and soft drinks etc, and went to buy it, the people of the area are supposed to dob you in if they see a selection phase soldier but they really act like a sort of 'resistance' haha so the guy behind the till just winked and carried on ringing up the snacks. Before he left the shop though, a big truck full of the hunter force showed up outside the shop and the soldiers came in looking for food for themselves and as they passed him he greeted them in a bad Welsh accent and left the store before they could have a good look. To his relief, they gave him the look of 'stupid civvies' as he passed. He quick timed it to the house with the construction and when he got there the workers were doing their thing and he knew this truck was going to be coming that way so after dropping off the shopping in the house, he went back outside and with the workers just picked up a shovel and started shovelling some stuff to make it look like he was working. This was when the same truck came passed the house slowly as if looking for any people hiding, Ollerton then just shouts at the truck "you alright boys!" And the truck continues, he could only think to himself that they must have thought, "ah that's that stupid civvie from the shop". 😂 its a great podcast, well worth a listen. My dad told me of a story from a bloke he knew working at the same hospital who went through this training, on the 3 day escape he managed to spend a night in a barn with permission of the owner they fed him too.

I was in an army hospital when an SAS Trooper was brought in. The story was that he'd been too quick firing a mortar and put a second bomb on top of another. They blew up taking his hand with it. When he'd recovered and they were fitting him with a prosthetic he was asked if he wanted any special attachments. He asked for one that would let him fire a rifle. A chap living next door to me was ex army, he'd told me the regiment he'd joined. It was only when I saw a photo that I discovered he'd been with the SAS. Anyone who volunteers the information that he'd served with the SAS it's pretty well guaranteed that he didn't.

If you want to see what these guys can do watch Hunting Chris Ryan. Its on youtube, a few episodes. He is on his own and is chased by a hunter team including us navy seals and british paratroopers. Seriously, watch the jungle one.

1951, Malayan Emergency; SAS pioneered 'Tree Jumping' intentionally parachuting into dense jungle terrain. They carried their equipment and 100 foot of rope, to abseil from the jungle canopy down to the ground. They were bad and mad... which character trait was greater is debatable. For the creation of the SAS, read Virginia Cowles - The Phanton Major and for later stories Tony Geraghty - Who Dares Wins: The Story of the SAS 1950 to ....(1982 for the original, there are later versions about too)

Both the S.A.S and their Royal Navy counterparts S.B.S were formed 80 years ago. All potential recruits to UK S.F. are already serving members of the armed forces the British Army or the Royal Marines.

I live near the first stage in South Wales. A couple of years ago, 2 or 3 men died of exposure. If you make it out alive, you get to second phase.

In UK you can go to junior leaders school at 15 then graduate to the army at 17.

Not sure if you would be able to find a video on the Gurkha regiment but that would be worth a watch. They are Nepalese people who serve with the British Army. My husband worked with a Gurkha regiment in Canterbury, Kent. They are amazing people & I’m glad they are on our side.

I remember a newspaper article from many years ago where some SAS soldiers were in the country side in the UK caught by a farmer and handed over to the local police. Their instructors have were angry with them for getting caught.

Only regiment along with SBS, to use live ammo for every exercise. Never blanks. Heard part of their training is for 1 member to sit in a chair in the dark, with 2 human cut out's either side of him. In burst one of his fellow SAS members and unleashes the clip in short bursts (never like in the movies) hitting the cardboard cut outs.

I did 20 weeks British army basic infantry training in 1984 at 17 then did 2 years in Northern Ireland in 85 and 86. Then did desert storm in 91. Had a mate join the SAS from basic training he used to sing to us when we went running. He was not right in the head.

And then there's the SBS, who were formed before the SAS, and are (very, very arguably) physically and mentally tougher, because they operate on and in water. Actually, at one point they tried to determine who was best, and were evenly matched, so decided to settle it by baking cakes, which the SAS won.

I meet one of the 1st SAS commanders from ww2. He told me how he parashooted behind German lines and captured 3000 German solders just with a radio to British bombers planes. It's in his book Scottish he was.

People always think special forces are 6ft plus giants maybe that's true for navy seals I'm not sure but not the SAS or SBS most are below 5ft 9 and not massive in build its all endurance the big lads usually drop out on the hills phase. Even when probation is up you still train everyday it never ends you could say the easy part is selection the rest is oiling the machine.
