The "desk" is an ironing board and Charles is perched INSIDE a ladder because that boy really needed to recreate something close to their usual position however he could 🤣. I love them. One of the things Neil Gaiman said recently (concerning Queer characters in The Sandman). [Heavy paraphrase] There are queer people in my life why would they be missing from my fiction? They don't have to justify their right to exist, they just are. That's now my standard. No more storylines built around the spectacle of queer suffering. No more 'positive representation'. No more 'very special episodes.' No more GBFs. No more 'queer is a problem that straight people have to deal with.' I want to watch shows where Queer people exist on their own terms. I think Edwin as a gay boy magnet before he comes out is hilarious.

Since you watched supernatural here's some funfacts cause that's where my brain is at: This episode was partly written by Steve jockey a (destiel positive) writer on supernatural. Jeremy carver was one of the executive producers on this show. He's also one of the writers of the ghostfacers episode in supernatural that involves "death echoes" aka ghost loops and the poor dead gay intern. The actress that plays Edwin's' disguise is also an actress in supernatural she plays a woman that is briefly possessed by Crowley in the first episode of season 11. Those are all the spn fun facts so far (excluding ruth Connell cause you already know that and yes there are more as the show progresses ain't that fun i will never be free)

Now you know Brittany, why I politely asked (begged) you to watch this. I, like you, got to a point in the series where I legitimately could not believe what I was seeing. that the queerness of this show was so blatant yet tastefully done that it didn't feel real at all. Said moment is later in the show however, so I'll let you know when you get to it, but I'm sure you'll figure out which moment it is on your own. This episode was just a rollercoaster for me, resident adopted mother of one Charles Rowland. seeing him in such visceral emotional pain was so hard, and Jayden did such a good job at acting it.

Love this, you've made a couple of really good calls here, not saying what as spoilery... I do think Charles is jealous of Monty, not sure what that means, I think it's one of those things they'll play with over time. I adore Nico also, she's such a joy as a character.

Let me try to count all the things I love here. 1) The episode concept/the execution of said concept. The timeloop of trauma for the spirits to just be stuck in this minute of violence for YEARS and to have a main character’s own trauma resonate so much with it that they get sucked into the loop too? And the signal knowing when it all starts and stops again with the lights and the music is just spine-chilling. 2) That Crystal clocked the energy between Edwin and Charles basically from the jump and very straightforwardly tried to address things to avoid unnecessary bs (“Hey Charles Edwin seems obviously jealous” “Hey Edwin I think you have feelings even you don’t know about”) 3) Esther giving Monty the mission to get close to BOTH Edwin and Charles and him promptly fully ignoring Charles in order to flirt with Edwin. 4) Charles leading with cheeriness and kindness while having a deep well of anger pushed deep within him (as a fun contrast to Crystal who leads with rage while having a fundamental core of kindness) and wanting to help others with their problems all the time while smilingly denying any talk about his own negative feelings. Just good characters all around. 5) Speaking of good characters, I just loved The Notary. That is all. 6) Edwin adoring and bonding with Niko near immediately being both very cute and very funny as a contrast to him butting heads due to being too similar/jealous of Crystal. And there’s probably more but this show is stuck in full brain rotation right now so who knows.

Just finished with today's SVSSS stream (loved it) and now I see this is uploaded!! SVSSS and Dead Boy Detectives the same night? This is my lucky day 😆 because I love both!!

Also it is part of the sandman comic (In the show it would be in season 2) There is a comic issue dedicated to them as a consequence of something really big happening. Have you seen Doom Patrol? There's a lot of gay in that show too. One of the main characters, Larry Trainor, was a closeted pilot in the 1950s, and coming to terms with his identity is a major arc for him. A supporting Character is Danny, a sentient non-binary street who offers safe haven to anyone who doesn't fit a heteronormative mold. Also, there was an attempt at doing a backdoor pilot for Deadboy Detectives in Doom Patrol season 3. Charles and Edwin played by different actors (one of whom is David Tennant's son), and the show hadn't been sold to Netflix yet. But it might be interesting to compare and contrast the initial tease of the Dead Boy Detectives pilot in doom Patrol with the show we got.
