The ‘blame game’ is played by all political parties around the world - something they all have in common(!). But in the past four years, I’ve noticed it happening in the US a LOT, which can have dangerous real-world consequences (particularly in the spread of COVID-19). I've been thinking about this video all year, and really wanted to make it. Now I have, I promise to never talk about politics again 🥴

Okay after reading some comments, maybe no more political videos sadly... The comment section is full of angry political quotes and anecdotes. Your perception is your reality. You notice more blame because you support the guilty party and are on the receiving end. You think it's perfectly fine to blame others all day long when it is in your favor and you don't even notice it. Well, because the silent majority is tired of being silent about all the lies and corruption, you are hearing the lies that you are being fed challenged and you don't like it. You are seeing the corruption of people who you supported being brought to light and you want to fight it and put it back in the shadows. You want to sit on your throne and accuse others all day long and never listen to anyone else, and now the lies and corruption are being brought out in the open and you are uncomfortable. Just because the lies and corruption were ignored doesn't mean that they didn't exist, it just means that you are willing to overlook them to get what you want. I can't believe that someone who claims to be scientific can stand by and see the video evidence of complete corruption and not want to cry out for truth to be brought to light and the guilty parties brought to justice. That proves bias and calls into question every conclusion you make about anything you claim to be scientifically proven. You can't be biased and have unbiased research because your biases keep leading you to different conclusions because you start out with different assumptions, so your models are always going to be skewed. Even after being proven completely wrong, you refuse to recognize that it was your assumptions that caused your models to be incorrect and so you change the name of things and say that you weren't wrong it's just a little different than you thought. I'm sorry but when you predict that 3 plus 3 is 8, but then find out it is 6, that means you were wrong. Just admit it and find out why it was wrong and try actually using the scientific method and call into question all of your assumptions and then you will start to see the truth.

Feel free to talk politics as much as you wish. It's important to do so. Less shame about politics can lead to more confident decisions. We live in a time where people are not talking with each other about politics. We are instead disputing. Having a dialogue over having a debate on any issue is much more effective in finding the truth. Thank you for your videos :)

He's rallying the people who blame shift to his banner. A big commonality I've seen between many trump supporters is their lack of personal accountability. Blaming all our problems on external sources. If it's the fault of Mexicans or Muslims, then America doesn't have to change, right? Also, a lot of them seem inclined to say psychology is liberal gaslighting, invented to convince Conservatives they're wrong. Makes sense they'd attack the legitimacy of psychology itself, since they suffer from so many psychological clichés and misunderstandings.

This is great to learn. This reminds me one time when I and a friend of mine belittled and hurt a classmate's feelings because we thought we were right. The classmate got hurt by that and we found out we were wrong. My friend blamed it om being able to see and left the class to take a walk for a few minutes and I apologized immediately to the classmate. And the classmate accepted my apology and we became friends after that. While in the end the classmate didn't like my friend (which makes sense). I never knew that bullying was contagious too, I would also like to learn about that.

Before it even hit the floor the gears were turning and I was thinking about how I could link my current situation in any way to someone else's influence, thus making it their fault. After it landed I thought, "wow, that's an obvious character flaw, I should watch out for that". I was really on a hair trigger to pass blame.

This pretty much applies to bosses as well as political leaders. I've worked in a few very difficult settings, where either the boss or the owner was a bully and a narcissist. One of these was so bad the senior staff all independently starting Googling to see if he qualified as a psychopath (after work drink conversations were wild in that company). I wouldn't say that the bad behaviour made the whole company dynamic evil, but what it almost always seemed to do was to enable the ones who were the most close to the edge to be emboldened. The problem is that these bosses are fundamentally bullies, and they don't have subordinates, they have victims. They make the worst employees feel like powerful accomplices because of the buy-in, but when these employees eventually fall out of favour, they just feel used.

Some of these comments are concerning. Like it or not, Donald Trump is the President of the United States right now. Analyzing or even criticizing his words and actions doesn’t make a video inherently biased. (Or partisan, according to the dictionary definition of the word.) I worry we’re not in a good place as a society if we act like any discussion or criticism is inherently worthless or biased if it doesn’t also equally critique every single other politician/party/country etc.

Before I finally received effective therapy, blame-shifting was how I survived with depression, and I became an expert at blaming others for my perceived shortcomings, real or not. But the therapy alone didn't make me stop: It merely showed me what I had been doing and why (CBT is great, but it can also be harsh). Fortunately, my career in engineering made blame-shifting in that part of my life practically impossible, so I knew what honesty and integrity were and how they were done. But that was in my job where the facts always win, not in the rest of my life, where lies and excuses were often simpler and easier (for me) than the aching truth. Self-affirmation and self-actualization truly are the keys. For me, the actions initially consisted of tons of volunteering. "Doing good" is powerful medicine. Soon thereafter, I was able to apologize to my family and friends. That I had any friends at all after being a jerk for so long was a true miracle. My blame-shifting is long-gone, dead and buried. But my volunteering continued, though it became more diverse. This, for me, has been the most difficult part of the COVID-19 isolation. I can't tutor the students I used to tutor. I can't coach the triathletes I used to coach. I can't usher for theater productions that no longer exist. I've tried to move some of these activities online, but that hasn't been very effective. But no, I'm not blame-shifting to COVID-19. Nope, not me! Just need to keep seeking better ways.

I see how people behave like their idols (be it politicians, actors, etc.). What I really miss in this world are moral authorities. There is simply nobody out there, who would have a moral authority, with backbone and respect, who I could vote for. When I hear people arguing about politics, it just makes me sick. They argue about absolutely primitive things, showing cognitive biases, just as the politicians who they support. Maybe it is just me, but I have a feeling that the world looses moral authorities. Being an honest person is not valuable. And since politicians have a limited budget to promote themselves and they have noticed that they get more votes on the "not so bright" side of the normal distribution curve, they behave in order to appeal to those people. Maybe this is the reason for what we see in many countries. It basically splits the society. Not just into side-taking parties, but also into two groups. Ones on one side of the normal distribution curve, who are getting swamped by political propaganda in a language they can understand (and without realizing how they are being manipulated) and the other side of the normal distribution curve, who cannot vote for anybody, simply because there is nobody worth of their support, regardless of their political orientation. And political parties give us candidates, who fit more and more to the masses for one side of the normal distribution curve. The bad behavior of leaders is a natural outcome of this trend. As is the worsening of attitudes in society, because leaders are often lacking morals and personal integrity. I hope that this trend will stop, as - and I just hope - even the people on the other side of the normal distribution curve will notice this and demand better candidates. Better candidates, who will be worth of their vote. Because personal integrity is not a function of intelligence. I hope I will not be disproved in that assumption.

I don't think the bad behaviour of leaders copied by citizens is a matter of influencing. I think it's more of unchecked inhibitions. some politics move slow so the "blame game" can easily be done with out necessarily doing it just to shift blame. but most people would realize doing it publicly would just make people think there doing it for preservation of image. just like people think trump handle the pandemic poorly just isnt that true, the policies for how to handle a pandemic prolly hasnt changed for years, because why change something when there wasnt a problem? but old policies dont work well in the newer times with increased population and transportation. btw its something we will have to consider if we are to move to another planet its easy to blame others when were so caught up in our own perception, but we all need to take a step back and look at the bigger picture

I remember reading an Q&A from Deborah Lipstadt - the holocaust & antisemitism scholar, famous from Irving vs. Penguin Books - in a magazine from this year. In it, she wrote that the uptick in antisemitic crimes in the past few years has been encouraged by the president's behaviour - not he endorses it, but rather that he says whatever is on his mind, even if it's attacking a demographic. Those who look up to him, in turn, say (and even do) whatever is on their minds.

I think the dislikes are coming from the bias against conservatives. She used republicans as the bad example and democrats as the good. Which is odd since there's plenty of examples of democrats blame shifting this year as well. Course, maybe I'm overly biased myself and just missed the negatives for democrats. I think the message was good, it's just apparently the bias was leaking.

Reality has a Democratic bias. Maybe that sounds partisan, but I'm not in the US, and we're watching the election from the outside, and it's absolutely bonkers looking at it. 15 and 20 years ago I would agree with you without hesitation, but I'm sorry, the US Republican party is deeply off its rails. "Bias" is one of the most mis-used words in American discourse, people think that a fair conversation is 50/50 for both sides. It doesn't work that way, when the preponderance of evidence is insanely one-sided, it's okay to actually point that out.
@chaunceyphilpot3986
@chaunceyphilpot3986 3 жыл бұрын
@@stuntmonkey00 "Reality has a Democratic bias" It really doesn't though. The only thing the republicans in the US are being stupid on is climate change. Instead of approaching it with a, hold your pants, conservative mentality (kek), they seem to just ignore it and even deny it. Though I think that's finally changing some. Everything else is grey. Abortion? Depends on where you think life begins. If it's at conception, you don't have a right to murder. Socialist policies? We already have quite a few actually. The variance in opinion is where do you draw the line from helping to hand holding. Could keep going, but there's legitimate arguments for both sides on most issues. To assume something as arrogant as "Reality has a Democratic bias" is just ignorant. You're assuming you're right on complex issues and that's very likely not true. Reality and personal experience would dictate that the truth is somewhere in the middle.

As someone who doesn't like Biden or Trump I see everyone blaming Trump for everything. Things that other Presidents weren't blamed for he's being blamed. Also, when Obama was running everyone said "If you don't vote for Obama you're racist." and when Hilary ran everyone said "If you don't vote for Hilary you're sexist." So the bullying isn't anything new, and isn't a Republican specific thing. This video feels a bit biased.

And the same thing happened if you didn't like Hilary. If you voted for both then you likely didn't experience that. But it's about the same response you would get now by saying "All Lives Matter" or "Trump 2020". I don't even have to say those things, I can see the reaction others give when someone says that. It's very possible it's the vocal minority that's lashing out at people that disagree with Obama, Hilary, BLM, or Biden, but it still happens.
