Is using a Rug Doctor worth it? Yes, Absolutely. Though the cost of hire is about half the total cost. The detergent is overly expensive. Make sure you shop around. For instance, it was 3 quid cheaper to hire the machine in Home Base and two quid cheaper to buy the detergent next door in Timpsons. Also get the hand tool - you'll need it to do the edges of things as the Rug Doctor isn't edge-to-edge cleaning.

Yes, it can be worth it. The key is to use as little water as possible.. or the bare minimum required to remove your stain(s). Too much water can lead to prolonged dry times and possibly mildew, destruction of the carpet backing and carpet itself. Often using too much water will cause it to pool under your carpet, mixing with other dirt and dander, thus creating a new stain after.. especially in high traffic areas. Pardon the long response.

@@Eddy12700 Eddy.. I hold the button 1-2 seconds and let off. I’ll do that over and over while cleaning to minimize how much water I use. Try not to continuously hold down on the red button unless you have to.

I just rented one of these from Home Depot and it was the best carpet cleaner I’ve ever used. It took a while to dry though

Yeah takes a while to dry and I'd only use it in the summer so I can open all the windows and doors!

If you have to resort to using this thing. Do yourself a favor and don’t put the shampoo in with the fresh water. Pre spray with the shampoo in a sprayer beforehand. Add a little vinegar in the fresh water reservoir. It helps rinse the soap residue. I’ll put it this way. Using this this like they tell you to would be like jumping in the shower with the shampoo bottle attached to the shower head coming out at the same time as the rinse. How on earth are you ever going to rinse that stuff out!

I agree. I done a fair few car upholstery, and i tend to apply cleaner separately first and let soak and agitate with electric drill attachment. Then use the vacuum with plain water to rinse out the detergent multiple times. I dont think its a major deal leaving detergent residue, but i think its wasting product to keep rinsing out the dirt with detergent. Once the detergent has done its work breaking down any greasy dirt, only plain water is needed to rinse out as much residue. The reason the water injection is right before the suction is so the water doesnt have chance to sink right to the bottom. But as i said, applying detergent separately gives gives you option of leaving to soak = better cleaning, then plain water after that. Much more efficient and cheaper. 👍

It is time consuming but a great carpet cleaner. I have had not the one shown but a Rug Doctor for about 8 years, a few problems but nothing serious. Seal Rings mainly, also the machine is difficult to clean.

Yes, definitely. I don’t like how the chemical tank doesn’t have a window or gauge to see how much cleaner you have left though. It goes through 3 gallons pretty quickly. Otherwise it’s a good machine.

For super Dirty carpets Use hot as water as possible and no soap for first round. Second round carpet soap, 3rd round carpet soap,Laundry detergent and bleach. 4th round suck up as much water as you can. Well worth the rental you can do a better job than hiring a professional that charges you every pass.

@@benmaffin I couldn’t leave the windows open since the temperature was close to freezing, almost 35 degrees Fahrenheit. So I kept my heat high on 80 degrees Fahrenheit and turned on fans in all rooms. I was able to dry it within 2 days without smells. Also, I went over the carpet twice without any liquid solution after washing it with liquid solution to extract all the liquid out. That helped speed up drying time.
