One thing that should be factored into the test is that on the 8ft putts you used the standard putter first. When you used the Armlock, you had a good idea of the exact line into the hole; slightly left of centre. You put things right on the 40ft test by using the putters alternatively and the results were pretty evenly balanced. Likewise the 9 hole challenge resulted in an even split. I'll stick with my scotty cameron. Very interesting video, keep up the good work.

Been armlocking for 1 year and it took time to dial it in. These are the 3 main things: 1- Putter length to match your height and preferred posture. I tried both 40” and 42” and longer was better for me. I’m 5-10 and like to be more upright at address. 2- Ball position. I found much more consistency and results with the ball on the back foot. Playing off the front sometimes exceeded my natural free swing motion and led to muscling or yips. 3- Putter grip. A lot have long and thin pistol grips, had issues in humidity and heat with sweat slipping off and in cold/rain when I wore sleeves. Went to the Bryson special JumboMax 17 and that solved every issue. Also takes more strain off the contorted left wrist. Cheers. Good video as always!

I feel like the armlock biggest benefit is the short putt to make sure you strike it straight as possible where slight angles on such low ball speeds can alter the bounce/path of the ball. Long putts matter more on the read and appropriate force exerted, making sure you get it close enough to two-putt. Think it’s better to test how squared and how much deviation on swing path on armlock vs traditional putters create on average.

Rick, I've used arm lock for years and use the Arm Lock Golf grips that turn belly putters into armlock putters. What I found in using those grips is that you have to change your left hand position on it. You can't really keep it in the "life line" in the palm of your hand. I found that if you roll your left hand clockwise just a bit, it was a lot more comfortable. That maybe the issue with your pain. I love arm locking though and whenever I feel like I can't start the ball on line, I always go back to an arm lock to get the feel back. Hope to see it in your bag though!!!

@@HarryProffitt No I don't agree that those things make the game more enjoyable - driver heads should still be wooden. There is a point in time in which the tech makes the game too easy and fundementally changes it - golf is way past that but because there's money in club manufacture it keeps getting pushed. Other games like baseball had the sense not to swap to high tech aluminium bats just because they hit further - they leave that shit for little kids and womens leagues. What does hitting further with drivers really get us? Every course either becomes a pitch and putt or else they lengthen courses - and then I'm walking further to play the same shots that just travel a bit further while spending more money on clubs. And I'm supposed to be impressed with that and find it enjoyable? Before you think I'm some geezer I'm 29 and have only played a few years and when I play socially I always use persimmon woods and old irons and a simple putter - it is more enjoyable to me and the feel is way better. It's really not that hard - if it was golf wouldn't have been popular all this time. With new drivers you don't even have to middle it. I also don't agree that making everything high tech and easy af helps grow the game. How the f does having more expensive clubs grow the game or having more matinence fees for members because of bigger courses make people wanna become members? It doesn't. People that don't know anything about golf aren't playing because of 460cc drivers with adjustable weight and swivel heads, only some golf nerd would think that. That kind of tech has it's place but it's place is allowing senior citezens to keep playing as their physicality designs or for women to play with especially if it's mixed company. No normal man or teenage boy needs that shit to enjoy golf.

The armlock was second in that test. He knew the exact break and speed vs traditional putter. Results are shaky at best

If it was that much of a game changer, everyone would use armlock

In 5-10 years most pros will use armlock. They just haven’t made the switch

If it was such an advantage, everyone would be using it.

it is an advantage, and everyone should be using either the evenroll or the bettinardi, but many are set in their ways for whatever reason, and would rather stay with whatever they are used to.

That’s an idiotic statement. Not “everyone” was using an anchored putter before it was banned.

Give it time, you'll see golfers giving this a try.

I've tried the Enroll midlock and Odyssey equivalent putter. I liked the midlock much more. First time testing it, it felt very natural to me. I just bought the Evnroll midlock and can't wait to take it out on the course.

Great video! Very informative and may have to look at this style putter in the future. The broom sweeper putters and belly putters weren’t banned, only the stroke where you anchor the putter to your body was banned. Bernard Langer is still using one on tour as we speak. I use this style putter and I have like 5 of them and had to change my stroke in order to use them like Bernard Langer. I switched to them because of a back injury and after my back healed I didn’t switch back to a normal putter. I am using a Ping Answer 4 at this moment, but switching back to my stand up putters with a non anchoring stroke. My problem with these putters is that the broom sweeper and belly putters both don’t allow you to anchor them to the body, but technically in my opinion and those I play golf with here in the States you are anchoring the grip against your forearm and wrist during the stroke to prevent the wrist from breaking down and bending. In theory with this putter you are doing what they claim you do with the broom and belly putters and anchoring them to a body part. If these are are allowed on tour so should belly and broom putters. Just my thoughts and opinions, but I’m also one of the players that would like to have two extra clubs in the bag giving you 16, not criticizing you or anyone else. I love your videos and content. Always informative. Thanks

Xander Schauffele uses it but thinks they should be banned. “I am for banning the armlock putters, but if everyone else is going to use it, and I feel like they have a bigger advantage, I may as well do the same.

Bullshit banning these. It's already limited enough that you can't lock it over the elbow

I got an armlock this year and I’m NEVER going back. If they end up banning it I’ll have to become an outlaw.

I started putting crosshanded in the 1980’s in an attempt to get the same type of stability in the stroke that this putter seems to give . I am definitely gonna try this out.

What Up Rick?? I added a couple more Putters to the collection this weekend! Got a new Bettinardi, and a beautiful new putter from some company called HIPPO. Club is as nice as any Scotty Cameron Putter

Wouldn’t you just be more used to the line that you just hit ten puts at? I don’t think the 8/10 is that crazy

For me, it all comes down to that 6 inch putter between my ears. I've heard it said that golf is 90% mental and the other 10% is mental.

I have developed a unique style of putting grip. Since limiting face angle deviation is the nec plus ultra of putting (Dave Pelz). Over-rotate the top hand so that it wants to close the putter face upon relaxation. Over-rotate the bottom hand so that it wants to open the putter face upon relaxation. Thus, both backs of the hands are on top of the grip, all knuckle joints are visible and the bottom hand wrist fits snugly into the "V" of the top hand thumb-forefinger. Try as you might, you can hardly deviate the putter face from on-line. When hands are relaxed for putting, the counter-acting forces of the hands balance out and the club stays static. Try it, it works.

I’ve been putting that way since the 1980s but using a standard Ping putter. I tried it after watching Bernhardt Langer use it in the 1985 masters. Not only does it stop you being too wristy it also places your eyes directly over the ball, which helps with alignment.

I converted my Odyssey 2-ball putter by adding a 6” extension and the 17” JMX JumboMax grip, and went to the arm lock grip. Immediately saw results in my putting stroke consistency. Score hasn’t improved much, but that comes with time and practice.

I've been putting like this since I was a little kid using an old odessy putter found in my uncle's barn that had been run over by a car and the shaft was bent 20 degrees forward. Having your hands that far forward makes it relatively easy to lock your left wrist even without the whole arm-lock deal. My style has always used left arm maintains direction/aim, right arm controls power. Its always worked well for me, this product is interesting because it seems like the closest analog to how I've putt my whole life. (Yes I still play with that same old bent to hell putter, 25 years later)

I don't have an armlock putter by definition, but I do have a chunky pistol GT2 Superstroke grip on my putter, and with my left hand low grip I do give it a bit of forward press with my right hand and sort of anchor my knuckles into my forearm. This has really helped me stabilize the putter and I do very good at starting the ball on line with the right pace. I still get a tiny bit of wrist action because it's not actually locked in but feels right to me and it works at the moment. Now if I could only get better at reading greens and judging the amount of break I'd be dangerous!

Video should have discussed [A] Whether the top portion of the grip should extend outward even more toward the front (left) arm than it does - I believe the answer is Yes; and [B] The need for the putter face to have a different/larger loft than the standard putter due to the de-lofted angle necessary to hug the front arm - again I believe the answer is Yes. Also, an armlock putter is illegal IF its handle length reaches the elbow bone (I think). Thanks.

How many players are there on tour? And there are 3 who use them? The armlock/midlock is just like any putter - it will work for a short time, then you move on to the next putter. Putting is such an art - the right read/break/speed is essential.

I'm glad that you are actually testing the club out beforehand. I watched a few videos recently (such as the one where you play St. Andrews backwards with hickory clubs) where you apparently hit your shots cold. I just think...well, this isn't going to start well...
