Major companies like Microsoft (and KZfaq with its impotent prohibition against adblockers) have some gall dictating to us what happens on computers we own. I genuinely think we need to push back hard against this now before it gets any worse than it already is. When I purchase a computer, it is mine. This is why, as a programmer, I've always despised the move in the last 20 years from C++ and native application development to web apis and interpreted languages like javascript, php, python. You're no longer creating software directly communicating with a local chip at all, you're making applications for the browser. Honestly, the way things are going, it's like there really is some grand conspiracy to get all of your applications, all of your digital 'stuff' behind an authentication gate in where they own your username and password. Imagine being a scientist in the year 1920, having private research papers all held at some mafia thugs place, a place where they ask you for a password every time you enter their place for your own documents.
@gruntaxeman3740
@gruntaxeman3740 Ай бұрын
Think harder. Roots of modern computing is in mainframes used in terminal machines. Idea is maintenance. It is much simpler IT when data and taking backups are in single place. Native applications came when we got microcomputers and they didn't always have modems or they are very slow or expensive. Including infrastructure. But terminal connections started to get common in microcomputers but native applications stayed because of graphical user interfaces and need to run also some code in locally. Then we got web and it shaped fast to be like terminal connections with graphics. Then UI needed to some special requirements to run code locally if native application was justified, or some other reason to run code locally. Goal was clear, we got Java Applets, Flash Player and ActiveX so developers can create almost everything to standard based browser application but if there is some component that was not possible, there was temporarily workaround to use non-standard component technology. And then we got jQuery what basicly started Javascript revolution. We now got technology for remote applications with UI and way to run code locally where it was needed using standard based technology. For developer and user, there is huge benefits that code is written using standards. It is compatible, for both backward and forward and easy to develop. Native applications are in practice, impossible to make compatible with every device got so native applications are inferior. It is very rare that native code is justified to get better application. Web doesn't enforce authentication gate. You can run web application in local network if you want. Some work applications also keep data in browser (Apple don't like these). You also forgot that from C++, that it is awful. Microsoft had terrible issues with C++ so they went to C#. Nokia used C++ and they failed to have it proper technology to applications and they disappeared from the mobile market. It is C++ complexity and same time hard to make stable ABI with that caused all C++ issues. C++ ABI was actually standardized for Linux based operating systems and that failed too because they break that standard every decade. There is no conspiracy. There are standards to make computers and programming simple. Browser has been the standard technology to make user interfaces. Developers doesn't need to care what happens below browser in technology stack. What happens there is that large corporations like Apple, Google, Microsoft, Samsung etc. want to put something between user and things what users do. They want to put brand there and use their foothold as a showcase to own services or for advertisements. There is a lot of unnecessary crap, or limitations what they do.

I'm a gamer and have been for years. I was able to switch to PopOS a couple years ago full time. All my games work including Steam, EA, GOG, and Epic. I just use Steam, Lutris, and Heroic. I haven't had any issues with finding other applications for doing the things I do. Just takes a bit of getting used to how things work and you are good to go. Not everything is as good but lots are. I recently changed to Linux Mint. Why? well initially, because my Win-10 PC HDD failed and was beyond me to fix, or receive data from. I panicked, purchased a new PC, and found it is on WIN-11. Oh! how I dreaded tangling with Win-11. So I started restoring my records and options from my flaky memory. Win-11 is awful, and so invasive / controlling. Meantime the OLD HDD was replaced and put on Linux Mint. That left me with two computers Win-11 and Linux Mint. Almost immediately I found I much preferred Linux Mint. It is my daily-driver. Win-11 gathers dust in the back room - but upon the news in your video, I am warming to replacing the HDD in the Win-11 PC and exploring another Distro on it - just for fun Thanks.

Another most interesting thing that I noticed with Windows 10 & 11 is that setting up file shares suddenly was hardly ever used on a LAN. Windows 10 also added a firewall and internet became better. It is now still not so easy to properly share folders between two Windows 10 computers. Also the fact that SMB went through 3 major version differences since the early days, did not help.

Microsoft's practice of forcing users to store personal data on their servers warrants scrutiny. In Europe, legal challenges against tech giants like Apple, Google, and Facebook have resulted in favorable outcomes for users' privacy rights. A similar approach could potentially be taken to address concerns about Microsoft's data storage policies.

This reasonably upset me. I was able to bypass the internet connection but this is untenable for me personally. If I cannot use my laptop in locations with no internet, why the hell do I even have it? It is not beyond my ability to just start at a bare bones Linux install and install packages as needed. The only thing thats had me reluctant to switch to Linux is the inconvenience of getting the games I want to play running on it, and that is looking far more palatable than the mentality that companies are pushing that you don't really own what you own.

For me, it all started when MS announced Windows 11 and it's arbitrary hardware requirements. Apparently, this was to force users to purchase new computers and to abandon older equipment that is more than capable of running Windows 11. The EOL of Windows 10 was another indication that was time to change operating systems. I've set up a computer just for Linux and having been working on what the best configuration for my needs. I first started with Pop OS but now I find Fedora more to my liking. It's been a learning experience for me and there are some things I had to resort to running a Windows VM for some applications.

@@Aki-kh2qe-StreetKidZZZ look.. I've been there and done that. I know all about Chris Titus Tech's debloat scripts that do awesomw thinga to let you temporarily get control of what is suppposed tp be your PC again, and honestly God bless him for his sincere efforts to fight against Microsoft. But, the fact remains that none of these third-party software tools have editing access to the windows kernel. So while they might temporarily do what they claim they're going to do and inevitable update is going to undo what that tool has done, and in the end you'll have to redo it over and over whether it's once a month or whether it's twice a year. Nothing defeats that fact because none of these tools have any access to the windows core AKA kernel which is where the Windows updates engine and the Telemetry engines live in Facts don't care about anyone's feelings on this. You can pretend like you have control over whether or not Microsoft owns your computer all you want to but as long as your PC that boots into Windows is connected to the internet, you do not own it and, and history has proven that Microsoft can and will do what they want with such a PC anytime they wish The only way to get true real ownership and control over what is supposed to be your PC is to Nuke windows and install a Linux operating system into that storage Drive And thus My overall point is, why continue to do the same things you've always done and expect different results AKA waste your time trying to fight against an operating system that doesn't allow you to own what is supposed to be your PC and doesn't allow you local at least on the operating system level on your computer real privacy versus choosing to spend time to learn about an operating system that actually respects your privacy and actually respects the fact that you are supposed to be able to own what is supposed to be your PC and not leasing or renting it I'm sorry to sound like a parrot as some would probably call me for this next comparative analogy, but Dave Ramsey said it best. Quote it's not a math problem. It is a behavior problem. It is the guy in the mirror that one must address" It is a mentality change that is necessary. You need to get away from the mentality that you need Windows the only real exceptions is involving software that does not work in Linux one way or another even VA virtual machine running windows inside of it and this involves an employer that requires that in order for you to continue getting a paycheck

I'd love to switch to Linux and will do it tomorrow but I require an operating system that is compatible with games and modding. What is Linux like for music? Give me that then I'll look closer. Don't pretend like Linux hasn't got problems with its various distro's. I don't Like Microsoft and Windows even less but it is functional to use Linux is a learning curve and one I would happily take if I would get the same functionality. I use Win 11 and Microsoft have been trying to push the microsoft account for a few years now but I use the pro version and still am on a local account which was straight forward. There are various ways of getting round this one way is getting the business version and this will get rid of bloatware as well. So is there a distro that is compatible with my Steam games, modding tools like Vortex etc. I don't mind using alternative stuff, for example I use open office. But the No.1 issue I would say that is stopping users like me jumping is, is my hardware going to be compatible and will there be drivers for it? Crack that and Linux will be more popular I guarantee it.

Hours ago I was having a conversation with someone in a Minecraft server about how Windows Recall was intentionally insecure because if nobody called them out on it, authorities would be allowed to browse your timeline using tools that wouldn't be freely available, unlike the TotalRecall tool whch blew the insecurity wide-open and how the whole AI push was to better disseminate massive amounts of data collected by various state actors and authoritative parties. One comparison which would seem wild at first would be the factory management game Satisfactory and their "Unauthorised damage" prompt when you get hurt. This means there is _Authorised_ damage which can be performed to your suit and / or person. Likewise, TotalRecall is the unauthorised method of accessing one's timeline, while whatever tool Microsoft could had rolled out to 14-eyes countries would have been the authorised method. Combine this with AI sorting, and you might get roped into a trend-based dragnet where you're profiled and investigated based on your topics of interest. _Ew._

@@the-answer-is-42 Yeah, enterprise options are much more varied, and have better support options for doing things the way the company wants. Microsoft is okay with forcing consumers into using X features or whatever because at the end of the day we don't really account for that much of their overall revenue. They could lose the entire consumer marketshare tomorrow and still be okay. They'd probably lay some people off, but they would be fine. MS makes an absurd amount of money from Enterprise, and they are much more beholden to making sure they have plenty of options at lots of different price points and scalability to meet that companies needs. Source: Ex-IT Manager for an insurance company. Had to deal with Microsoft support a few times and when you are a large enterprise, they go above and beyond to make things work for you. 7:30 Regarding if you can log into an MS accout without the Internet, I believe the answer is yes (though not the first time, if I understand things correctly). Basically you will get prompted to setup Windows Hello with a PIN code. This PIN cam be used like a password would be used and iirc, it works without an Internet connection. I believe it actually uses the TPM to do this in a secure way, so that's one of the technical reasons for the TPM requirement of Win 11 (though obviously the business reasons might not be technical). I cannot comment on if it's possible to use the normal password for the MS account in this way, since I learned the above by fooling around with Windows 11 in a VM and just followed the instructions without bother to test just the password... However, when I was reading up on how to get RDP working with an MS account, it implied you can maybe use the password of your MS account for it, at least with RDP (didn't try it, I made a local account instead because that was simpler, so I don't know if you would need an internet connection to log in with the password). MS is making what should be a simple thing overly complicated though an obtuse workflow (Windows Hello is probably a good thing itself, just the flow of doing anything outside of what MS wants is annoying). TLDR: Yes, with Windows Hello. Maybe with MS account password, don't know.

Rufus creates an answer file that alters the registry to allow a local account, same thing a 1.a. but does this for you 3. Best option if one *MUST* use windows is to install the IoT version that is stripped of all the bloat. I’m dual booting Garuda xfce and Win11 IoT as a test on a laptop Linux developers need to *STOP!!!* making 10^10e256000 distros to just have a different desktop, eye-candy, file system, etc… and band together and make a really good distro. We don’t need 6,174 flavors of Debian, Red Hat, or Arch. Options are great, but too many die because developers move on, get married, have children, change jobs, whatever. There should be no less than fifty to one hundred developers on a distro at any time to absorb these changes.
