Huh, it says on the website it's better to make a new template. That way you don't need to go through the whole install process if it's compromised.

I found this out 3 years ago. I did a factory reset on a couple of our computers, with the first one I couldn't remember the WiFi password. By the time I did the second I had found the password. After setup I always install some secondary file management programs and a few other programs. On the first I could find my program files using my file management program as they had been saved to the hard drive.... But I could only find my program files using the Windows file management program on the second. This was Windows 10 using a USB installer so that I would have the latest update. I reinstalled on the second computer and got rid of that. But ran into an issue, on my computer I do not use the Microsoft username and password to log into the computer. My wife does and foolishly chose the pick up your work on any device option, when she did so the computer started saving everything to OneDrive and even transferred installed secondary programs to OneDrive and removed them from the hard drive. So I had to fix that with another install.

Been using the dragonized kde version for about a month now and I love it. Everything just worked for me, with no issues. I love that it is really fast and the different tools it offers to help someone who is new to arch, transition. Overall, it is a great distro, especially for those who want the latest features and a stable system.

My TV's "smart" computer is a little external Intel N100 box (I run Arch btw) that I have autologin. I set the keyring to have an empty password and have Jellyfin Media Player launch in fullscreen when the system auto logs in to the DE. While having a blank password on your keyring is dumb for obvious reasons, in this one use case I have no problem with it. I don't ever give the real "smart" TV access to the internet. That is some company's computer and code running on your network, and they're data mining every smart device they sell. Giving a smart device access to your network is worse than running Windows.

I switched from Windows Gaurda months ago before finding seeing this video. I think its a really solid distro and all games I've thrown at it run with no issues. I tested Mint a while back and while it was fine i found mint to be more buggy with games and for some reason performance wasnt up to scratch. Ive switched to Garuda almost 100% on my desktop and 50/50 on my laptop. My laptop is down to the audio sounding bad on Linux so if i want to watch anything with the speakers I have to use Windows

Windows automatically turning on OneDrive is one reason why I hope that petabit-level broadband speeds won't become a thing any time soon! You see, with even "just" a 1-Petabit-per-second Internet speed, your computer could quickly upload, say, 10 Terabytes from your storage device(s) to Microsoft's OneDrive servers! One Petabit per second is equal to 1,000 Terabits per second; and in turn equals 10,000 Gigabits per second! In terms of bytes per second, this is 1.250 Terabytes per second!!! This means that it would take OneDrive less than 10 seconds to upload those 10 Terabytes to their servers! How's that for scary, especially if you didn't give Windows any permission to upload all that data from your drive(s)? Also with that 1-Petabit-per-second Internet connection, OneDrive can easily copy all of your connected storage devices EVERY MINUTE ON THE MINUTE.

I've been giving linux tries from time to time but after 20 years on windows and getting it broken in and knowing how to get around most of the most annoying parts and how to fix things that go wrong for the most part. Going onto Linux is /hard/ it's all the difficulty of moving into a clean install of a different desktop environment like a different version of windows and having to reconfigure everything the way you want it and reinstall all the software you want, sometimes having to search through all the settings panels trying to find the options you need, while at the same time not knowing enough of the behind-the-scenes architecture and mechanics to fix problems where something doesn't work due to permissions or missing dependencies or the wrong configuration or not knowing what almost any of the software does because the names are just confusing and not self-explanatory. I almost envy my brother who only knows minimal amounts about /any/ OS and only uses his computer for firefox, a text editor, and modded minecraft all of which would most likely mean that if I could get Linux onto a computer for him in a stable configuration he'd have almost no trouble at all making the transition, he doesn't tweak the settings he just runs a pretty much vanilla OS and software that's pretty much the same regardless of the OS.

Oh, don't worry: Microsoft is doing this in order to make ABSOLUTE CERTAIN that you don't have any illegal files that you can be Cybertipped for. Here is what "Cybertipping" means: it means "having one or more of your files reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) through that organization's CyberTipline". This was something that happened to one father who sent photos of his child to that child's pediatrician, only for those photos to be flagged by Google as ILLEGAL! So, not only did that father lose his Google account and with it all the files he had stored on Google Drive; but even worse, those photos got Cybertipped; so for the next 10 months, he was accused of being a MAP (Minor-Attracted Person) BY THE POLICE! By the way, I'd like to see Microsoft try Cybertipping anime images and/or videos involving "young-looking" anime girls, and for the NCMEC to give Microsoft a call saying, "Microsoft, PLEASE stop sending us unactionable CyberTips!" (i.e., Microsoft should NEVER become an enforcement arm of the FBI)

This was already the case I believe even in Windows 10. When you use Microsoft account for your windows login, your personal files will be automatically backed up to OneDrive. If you don't use windows account for the windows login and install a Microsoft product, like office and login for office, then they try to couple this account for your whole windows account, so that OneDrive can upload you personal files to their server. I have also removed OneDrive and it is installed again automatically. I think these are illegal practices. I have no good word about it

The many things wrong with one drive are: 1) It changes your root folders: Documents, Desktop, Downloads etc... to c:\users\(yourname)\Onedrive ... a lot of applications look for your files in the normal folder locations 2) One Drive does not make a cache of your files. IE.. other programs like ShareSync create another folder to cache your files so accidentally deleting something has a backup. One drive does not have that 3) One Drive, even not installed or removed still is in your Microsoft office once you use a online account for it. Under any office app go to file (or) menu - account. Click "Manage Settings" there you will find "Optional Connected Experiences" which means one drive is active with web connect instead of the add 4) Other cloud storage apps offer antivirus scanning so you don't upload or download an infected file

I’m on Windows 10 and can’t upgrade to Windows 11. Seems that I shouldn’t if I could! I use OneDrive but I don’t opt into any Windows backup. Also I saw a video a while back exploring how OneDrive backup works and it was very weird and counterintuitive.

.odt has an open standard. It should not become obsolete. Most software companies with propriatary formats tend to get millions upon millions of users for something, then discontinue it and start something completely different, leaving their customers stuck with documents that no longer work. I have been stranded so many times that I do not ever again want to save anything in a format that isn't open to everybody free of charge. It was only yesterday that I lost the better part of an hour copying items, object by object, from an ancient Serif PagePlus (.ppp) file to a LibreOffice writer document. From my point of view, the only 'good' thing about Microsoft formats is that they are so popular that better free software is often capable of importing them …

Moreso than the legal/illegal questions is that data is valuable. If Microsoft wants data then they should compensate their users for it. We need a giant global class action suit for compensation for gathering data.

Rather than spend a few hours learning the setting in windows and accepting a few near invisible inconveniences; lets go to Linux and spend our waking hours discovering just how incompatible it is with other software's with rip your hair out level work arounds, if they even exist. Just like fusion, we are only a few years away from it working properly.

LoL 😂 I have been distrusting my data online since 2000 (in my mid-teen years). What was that then? I was using NT, 98, Me, and 2000. XP was when I regained a lot of trust in my machine, but I have always kept my artwork limited to analog and refused to post on sites like DeviantArt. Wow... Was my intuition on point. When Windows 8 was released and all windows devices were switched to the same frame-work,I knew a new era of cyber-security threats emerged and Microsoft is actually the culprit. I used to wonder what these bastardized companies were doing with all the data... I knew they were using it to learn things they use a backdoor to gain access to (a hint of evil, no?).. But..... AI? Not surprised, just infuriated. But here's the crazy thing to me... We only have Linux as a reasonable replacement. How.. In.. The.. Literal... F*#k.. Are we STILL without as many OS's as there are useless apps?? 🤬 As much as I hear techies and software engineers complaining... Yet that's all it is. Complaints. No action. No class-action law suits... Not even a serious call to action (I prefer the non-violence,but even that becomes a form of victimization). These powers-that-be want nothing more than to break us down and replace us with 'automatrons'. They want our resources and our trust, but look what we get in return: Windows 11 & another useless iPhone (among other popular junk)

The biggest actual problem is that everything stored in the cloud will eventually be stolen by third parties, or already has been. Windows users wanting to protect themselves should keep a legal document in their Documents folder explicitly denying permission for Microsoft to copy the files to any cloud service, and also explicitly rejecting any terms of service that force binding arbitration or class action lawsuits.

Seems to me that this also makes the storage a hot target for hacking. And how many people have a picture of their ID on there. Or medical pictures. And who's to say future Windows versions won't pull a META and claim all the data for AI learning or something. The whole thing is a ticking timebomb.
