Wish I'd have seen this yesterday. Changed the fuel pump. Changed the MAF. Changed the valve cover. On daughter in laws 2016 chevy trax. Went to the back of the vehicle and heard a gurgling sound. Stuffed a paper towel in it and the engine lined right out. Thanks for your help sir

Very informative. My check engine light came on today and so far everything seems to point the gas cap. Mine makes that noise sometimes but not all the time. So I’m guessing that means my gas cap is still faulty and it is finally triggering the check engine light? I have a locking gas cap I’m going to take it off tomorrow and put the stock one back on and see what happens. do I have to take off the negative terminal and reset the check engine light or will it go off automatically once I change gas caps? My gas cap stopped clicking about 2 months ago, didn't think much of it, it still felt like it tightened. Then a couple weeks later, my check engine light turned still on. So I bought a new gas cap, the NEW gas cap didn't click either. I tightened it as much as I could and went on my way. I don't notice any performance changes at all but my check engine light is still on. Any advice?

My truck does that same same sounds when I remove the gas cap maybe that's why the evaporative system hasn't cleared on the scanner

I had the same issue a year ago and I just seen some one on you tube post about a gas cap to risk it and I think I fixed my problem after mas flow sensor put on new another sensor that didn’t needed it does make ur car run like crap

Is the code for the gas cap the same as a code for an evap canister? I don’t wanna change the expensive evap canister for nothing..

Wuddup Willie. I have a 2005 toyota camry. My service engine light now remains on. Everytime I pull the fuel door release switch to open the fuel door the gas cap is loose. I turn it until it clicks several times and close the fuel door but when I pull the switch again right away and check the cap it be loose. Do you know if when the switch is pulled to open the fuel door does that automatically loosen the cap for convenience or could my gas cap be malfunctioning?

yup just happened again but this time i had to really spray cleaner and wipe it off to get the C E light to clear dosent happen often car is 12 years old 123900 miles on it

I’ve changed the plugs ran a little better my light is now always on and threw EGR codes I’ll be back this should be the fix

My check engine light code said gas cap. Been on twice now, today I replaced the gas cap right after they cleared the code. Hopefully that fixed the problem. However I just had a fuel pump replaced two weeks ago. Since then has this problem started. Hopefully it was just the gas cap. Fingers crossed.thank you Sir fir the info.

Very informative video, thank you ! My check engine light came on with my 2006 Toyota Tundra truck. I do believe it is the gas cap but the code says PO333 which is supposedly the Knock Sensor 2. Circuit High Input (Bank 2) issue(s). Is it possible the loose gas cap could cause this particular code reading instead of the “loose cap “ code of another number ? I will buy a new cap today but I would please like to know the answer as you are a very knowledgeable mechanic ! Thank you

Mine has never clicked this is a replacement. Spent over 1k 3 different mechanics for evap codes . Ordered a gas cap yesterday.

My check engine light has been a pain for months paired with a “tighten gas cap” message. Jiffy told me a new gas cap should clear the engine message too after runnng a quick diagnostic for free after changing my oil. About to throw my new $18 cap on and see what happens!

Willy my car sounded strange today Later I was just going to take my trash to the dumpster Strange sound under the hood and then about 3 minutes the check engine light came on. I will check tomorrow to see if it’s my gas cap.

This just happened to me now and I didn't have the check engine light on before after I went to fill up my gas tank and turned the car on to leave the check engine light popped up here.

Can that cause also a fuel smell inside the car? I have a 2011 malibu and about two weeks ago it started smelling fuel from the vents but also even if the car is parked, smell on the outside….. common issue would be a vacuum line or injectors, but being parked I don’t think that would be the problem and also is consumes more fuel than usual, and a massage just popped out in my dash “check gas cap”….. thanx in advance

What about for those with a Ford that has a capless tank. Mine just opens up from the door and there is no cap its sealed until you insert the gas nozzle from gas station. But there is definitely a problem that is happening in this area.

I changed my gas cap in my 2006 Ford expedition and had engine light removed from a mechanic friend, but my light came back on after a week. I noticed it came back on when we had rain and winds. I'm not sure if that's a coincidence or not. But Could it be a leak somewhere else?
