Thanks. I just ordered a pair of 18k vintage earrings, and in the description it said, "acid tested". I had no idea what that meant, but I guess it's a good thing, lol.

A huge reminder at most 10 karat gold testing solution sometimes stays on fake jewelry so wait 15 minutes to get a way better result to make sure it’s 100% authentic

Not sure why but EVERYTHING I test that is gold colored ALWAYS test positive as 10k for me. Can you help? Does brass stay unchanged when using 10k acid? Thanks for the help.

Thank you for the learnings about gold testing. Do you also know what's the name of acid to segregate metal from gold filled wires and how to do it!?

Great video ! Question - non-magnetic silver fur clip tested negative w sterling but lightly positive (similar to first test shown) using platinum acid. I can’t believe it’s platinum (no precious stones - just one large turquoise cab). What would explain that ?

I did this this rose gold coppery looking bracelet and 10k wasn’t eating it, do any other metals hold up to 10k solution

Thanks for uploading this video. I was wondering roughly how many times can you scratch the testing needle before it needs to be replaced?

I have a bell that I tested with my kit. Started off with 10k and it stayed...then went to 14k acid and it dissolved. I've always thought it was an old brass church bell...could brass test as 10kt gold.?

I wouldn’t think so but can’t wait for the expert to weigh in!

Hi I just saw your comment! No brass will not hold up to 10k acid. Now I have seen other soft metals that the acid is impervious to, which can happen but then you also use the color and softness to help gauge the result. Another thing that happens is the acids can go bad if they are exposed to outside elements. Also, if it happened to be 10k gold, it would not completely disappear on the 14k test, just dim.

Ok I have a question. I have a gold bar that I have made from gold nuggets and placer panned gold. I used my testing stone and it doesn't dissolve until I use the 22k acid. so I would think that means it is 22k. But if I put a small drop on the gold bar it's self it slowly turn a dark color but it never bubbles or fizzes or acts funny it just slowly turns dark on that spot. but only does that with a drop of 22k acid not any of the other acids

So, testing directly on the metal vs testing on the stone will always show different kinds of results. Based on what you have told me it sounds like the purity lies between 18k and 22k, 75%-92% or so. If the 22 dissolves it this likely means it is less than 22. In fact, the amount of time it takes to dissolve when using 22k acid comes into play as well when estimating purity. When the acid is put directly on the metal, there is definitely more than enough material to neutralize the chemical reaction, so the results are more difficult to see vs the tiny bit of metal taken off when using a test stone. So my thought is that it would be around 20k. Which makes sense considering the source of the gold, typically purity is around 80% of course depending on where the gold was obtained. Hope this helps.

what sort of crucible are you using? try melting iron and then pouring the iron off leaving your gold molten at the bottom as iron and gold don't alloy , use electrolysis to get you're k and the refinery sets the karat not the customer and they will take your silver as profits it's a dog eat dog situation take it or leave it, just get your bullion as clean as you can without burning up your earnings as direct heat as a smelting method is a 30 percent potential loss. good luck and purchase a kiln if you're going to be smelting allot , where are you finding such good placer and free gold? also I agree with your karat is lower then 22 , if you find your gold in Georgia then your karat is already higher then most coming straight from the sources. if you are out west you'd be lucky to get 18 k in your pan and in Australia most likely three to ten k , very contaminated but still gold.

Is it normal when you go to a pawn shop and they test your jewelry to find out if it's real or fake. For them to scratch your jewelry. I went to a pawn shop and they rubbed My chain so much that it had deep scuff marks and scratches

I just went yesterday and they rubbed my shit so hard they left a mark. But yes my gold was real I got it from shalimar and had they pawn shop test it

I used some good cleaning solution to clean some earrings that tested positive for 10k and they turned a gold dim silver color. …. Is there any way to turn them back gold or did I “cleaning solution” the gold off 😅
I have a question I bought a bracelet 10k right after I purchased I took it to the pawn shop and they did the acid test with 10 k so he put 14k acid and the line of gold did not dissolve so he try 18k and 22k and also did not dissolve...and I was wondering what this mean is it fake is it made out of a metal that could trick the acid test
@beachgoldassay5 жыл бұрын
There are metals that will never dissolve using the acids designed for testing gold. I do not know all of them, but I have seen similar things in my store. Platinum would be a metal that would hold up to a lot of acid, but I am assuming that your bracelet is also marked 10k. If it is not dissolving in any of the acids, and marked 10k, there is a good chance it is fake. I would take it for a 2nd opinion as well. In this case, it would not be tricking the acid test, as if it does not dissolve on 22, its something else entirely. Even 22k gold dissolves on 22k acid, its just a judgement call of how long it takes for that mark to disappear. One other idea would be silver test, but I doubt it is silver based on it standing up to the gold acids. Good luck.

we do not no if what you tested was 10 k gold you no how we do not no . becose you did not leave it long enuff. it takes 2 to 3 min to notice a difference as some metals take time. like a decently plated item for a gold filled item also some other mixes. and to be truly shure now days with acid it should sit 5 min the chinease are making crap that takes up to 5 min to desolve.

Never rub your gold on this type of stone. It will leave a permanent flat surface on the gold piece. Yes you will get it tested, but a perfectly polished gold piece will be be ruined.
