Sadly most brands out there are only for profit. I like to check packaging date on anything I buy. Some olive oils sit in market for very long so it's already rancid before you buy. Thanks for a great video, Dr. Hyman!

+Wendi Phan, I don't object to companies making a profit. I love to support honest farmers and vendors that provide health giving foods and charge what it is truly worth. What I feel is offensive is when profit is made at the cost of environmental destruction, human rights abuses, animal extinction, fraud and health threats from inferior food products. The problem is that REAL FOOD IS EXPENSIVE and in a culture where gluttony is the norm, people think it is too expensive to buy quality food - mainly because we consume SO MUCH OF IT! People who understand that they don't need to eat gobs and gobs of food find that they can afford good food with no problem. It is time to realize that healthy eating is expensive and "we" ( both the food industry and the consumer) need to turn our backs on eating huge amounts of cheap, fake food and embrace a lifestyle of eating moderate amounts of expensive but great food. If we could just realize that when we eat less, we can afford to buy better quality, AND we'd be healthier and better off financially. Let ethical farmers and vendors make the great profits they deserve. Put the others out of business! Buy less but buy better.

+Linda Hendrex I absolutely agree with you. Perhaps I wasn't being clear -- Business is for profit, I of course have no problem with that! It's the ones that care only about profit and are unethical that I dislike. Wish more people would be more aware of what real food is and pay more respect to these farmers.

So, what oil should I use for cooking? I know that Extra Virgin Olive Oil has a low smoke point and therefore should not be heated.

Is it ok to refrigerate oils? Coconut oil liquifies easily during Summer months. How's should we store it then or it is ok for it to exist in liquified state?

Doesn't dark color absorb light? White color reflects light, and clear glass transmits energy from EMR radiations. So shouldn't it be rather in a white bottle than dark-colored one?

That's how all the Greeks (like me) tell if olive oil is good. It does work. Cheap ass oil will leave no feeling on the back of your throat, good oil will make it feel weird and/or burn your throat a bit. You'll know the feeling when you do it with good olive oil, it's a distinct feeling that nothing else I know of causes.

+George Kromidas Thank you! Just took a sip, a moderatly pleasant burn lit up my throat for a minute, I suspect nutrients

Sounds like your olive oil is good! I'm not sure what causes the burn but if there is a burn it means the olive oil is good which means there has to be nutrients.

I am Malaysian. I grew up surrounded by palm plantations. The money from these plantations has made us prosper, my parent could afford to feed us and send me to school. But it is true that palm plantations is devoid of life..., not even birds. The palm plantation also damages water resource, rivers dry up, even if there is water the water becomes muddy and most of the fish die out. But I don't think this is unique to palm plantation, any large scale farming will damage the environment. Name it, corn, canola, olive, whatever... it will change the environment around it. We human drain resources around us faster than nature can replenish it. Those huge corn farms around the US requires huge amount of fertilizers... guess where these fertilizers come from? I bet it is being drained from somewhere else around the globe. There is nothing sustainable when it comes to human.
