Have 2011 silverado 1500 almost sold my truck. Saw this changed starter and now it’s working like new!

Thank you so much. I was worried it was something worse. Pulled my starter out and found it to be in the exact same condition as yours. To anyone with 4WD, it was easier for me to fish the starter up through the wheel well under the exhaust header cover and back in instead of dropping it under the truck somehow. The coolant lines were too much in the way for me for that to work

Thanks to you I can send back the flex plate I bought for my 2008 GMC Sierra 1500. My starter was doing the same thing. I went and got a new one to put on and it’s quiet as can be. I am so relieved. Thanks again!

Bro I just want to say thank you so much. My truck made this exact noise a year ago. So I didn’t drive it anymore and bought a new truck cause I needed to go to work but didn’t want to damage anything in the engine cause I ain’t a mechanic. So after I bought a new truck I had multiple mechanics take a look at it and they all had list of possible problems that could cause that sound. So they said we would have to work from the top of the list down costing me possibly thousands of dollars. So instead I did nothing with it and let it sit for a year. After coming across this video I thought what the heck I’ll change out the starter myself and so I did and the sounds is gone. Thanks so much for making this video!

Just wanted to say thank you, I was just about to start a flexplate replacement when I found your video, saved me a lot of time and undoubtedly frustration. I thought a tooth must have chipped off and that I was hearing it bounce around lol. I don't have the patience to rebuild though, just gonna slap a new starter on. Thanks so much my dude.

Thanks for this video, I had NO idea what was making the sound, I was afraid it was the transmission, but it turned out to be the starter with the same issue as what you show.

This video was very helpful to me I bought a 2008 Chevy 3500 had for $2500 thinking that the commission was bad reason why the guy sold it and I found out that the starter it was making a weird noise so it was like a gift now I can sale the truck for at least 14000thanks for the video it was very helpful

My 2011 started doing this a shop told me it’s my flywheel I’m gonna check the started first!

Sweet, this just helped me solve the annoying noise on my dads truck after thinking we were gonna have to replace a cracked flex plate.

Just had this noise startup a couple days ago been scouring the web trying to track it down. Went to Auto Zone and the go told me it sounded like it was coming from the starter or bellhousing, thought it may be a cracked flexplate but the videos ive found showing the sound of a cracked flex plate dont sound similar. Finally found this and it sounds EXACTLY the same. Hope this is my issue, would make sense as ive had some slow startups here recently that i thought were due to extremely hot weather. Really appreciate this video! My 2009 Yukon started making the same noise a couple months ago and I'm finally about to check it out on a lift tomorrow. I'm hoping I can fix this myself now without having to replace the whole starter. Surely the flex plate isn't busted. It just started after starting up one morning, not while driving before.

Man just had this same noise on my 2008 GMC Yukon SLE yesterday immediately took it to my trusted mechanic & it’s exactly this that’s causing the noise got scared cause noise is so loud when you accelerate the most awful sound I thought it was the catalyst converter got new everything

My 07 Sierra just started making this same noise today. I pull a camping trailer and have a trip planned. So I was freaking out thinking my torque converter was going out. After watching your video I’m 99.9 percent sure my snap ring failed also. Great content thanks 🙏

Did a 4L80e swap on my 2005 gmc and it makes this same tone ringing on take off. Pressurized Converter must be expanding enough to push the flex plate in against my starter now I just have to figure out how to get clearance in the direction toward the engine.

One more question sir! If it was the starter, would it always be rattling, or could there be days it wouldn't? For instance, today my truck isn't making the noise. It often will start when I notice it's very cold outside. Right now my truck is idling, not a sound of it whatsoever.

Yup. I had the same rattle a week ago. I had a starter I purchased over 10 years ago... so I chucked that on but I Want to fix the old one. How did you pry that loose plate that rattles on the bendix back on? The one on the starter here is WAY kicked off of it looks like it cracked. around the edges? Might just part out a Junk truck starter to get a new bendix off it Besides that nothing else is wrong with the OEM starter. Oh The plastic planetary gear retainer with the 4 posts is all cracked off too from the heat ill need one of those too What grease do you think works best for the needle bearings and planetary gear set?

I'm having the same issue. Mechanic defaulted to thinking it's flex plate as well. But now I'm thinking starter. I noticed you said "when up hill". Could it also make the same noise even when on flat and while driving? I notice mine stops making the noise when I take my foot off the gas.

I don’t really want to tear into the starter, if I have the same exact noise, should I just throw a reman starter in? How long does it take to remove and re install? I’m thinking about getting a car quest crap one, seeing if it fixes it and if it does then I’ll order an ac Delco one and swap the oem one in and return the car quest. U think that’s a good idea?
