Train passengers are suffering more disruption from strike action as talks resume in a bid to resolve the bitter dispute over jobs, pay and conditions.
Services started later than normal today as trains were delayed leaving depots due to Network Rail (NR) signallers and control room staff who would usually have worked overnight shifts taking part in Tuesday’s strike.
Just 60% of trains will run across the day as a whole, and some operators will wind down services slightly earlier than normal tonight ahead of Thursday’s walkouts.
The third strike of the week is planned for Saturday.
Around 40,000 members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union at Network Rail and 13 train operators are involved in the industrial action.
RMT members on London Underground also went on strike on Tuesday.
The joint action caused travel chaos across Britain, with journeys taking longer and roads rammed with traffic as people switched to cars or buses to get to work.
The RMT will meet with NR and the train companies today in another attempt to break the deadlock.

The first thing that MPs did when the Covid fiasco was over was to accept a £10000 pay rise and then proceed to tell every other worker in the country that they will have to tighten their belts because unnecessary lockdowns ,which said MPs had enthusiastically backed, had ruined the economy.

This government and many others have it the wrong way round!! Look after the ones who contribute! And not those who haven’t!! This must be a Tory station, with 2 clowns talking absolute rubbish. Go Scotland (independence), greetings from Australia.

Why is it “absolute rubbish” to resist the blackmail of train operators demanding yet even more money when it is already cheaper to fly places? Why is it rubbish to want our courts to be able to pass our own democratic legislation without international involvement? Scotland don’t want independence, Sturgeon’s party is founded upon it so she will always keep holding votes, but it’s not going to happen. Stay in Australia.
