Totally agree, finally got to see him play live with the Tony Toni Tone reunion tour in Louisville & was impressed with how much restraint he played with. For someone with that level of skill, but also understands that it’s about “what the song needs is what the song needs.” Had 2 play when I got back home 2 Cincy until 4am!!! It’s him, Judy Smith & the late great Spanky Alford that come from that particular planet.

I was at the Alternative Guitar Workshop last year and Isaiah was there. He won everyone over with his combination of soul , funk, R and B, Blues, jazz and rock. He can burn on jazz and many other styes, all with deep soul and feeling. He even said "it's all SOUL music" to him.

GMaj7 - F#m7 on loop is kind of how I'm hearing this. For me, it's almost this in-between world of Dmaj/Bmin and AMaj/F#min. Not sure where exactly the key is. But the song almost exclusively rests on the GMaj7, so maybe it doesn't really matter much either way. Really spot on with the dominant 7th analysis. We seem to be hopping around Maj7 and min7 chords, moving a key center that was never very defined to begin with. Really wonderful music. Also a huge fan of Isaiah. He is easily one of the best to ever do it. Great video, Michael!

Hey Michael, I've just recently discovered your channel and I'm a big fan! Another guy who I was criminally late to the game on is a Canadian country artist named Corb Lund. His band is really tight, and he and his guitarist, Grant Siemens are both really talented players. The rhythm section are no slouches, either. Sean Burns is an absolute show-stealer on bass. I'd love to have you take a listen to them in a video. Keep up the great work!

"Rigid sonic environments, if you will" - MP Whoa! I had never really looked at metal and other rock and roll tunes in such a way before. I guess having grown up with that style of music just didn't leave me with a lot of space to look at it in such a way before. But it's a brilliant way to describe the song structures and chord/voicing choices rockers often make. Absolutely love Sharkey and the band in this video. Thank you, MP, for always bringing us on these musical adventures to explore new players, songs, and styles. And thanks to your GG community for bringing this to your attention in the first place. Peace.

I really enjoyed this analysis. Something about this song reminds me of Santana's "Transcendence" from *Moonflower*. The way it builds to a long solo and then quiets down, some harmonic similarity, even the use of phaser in the rhythm playing (just before the solo). It's definitely it's own tune, but "Transcendence" is one of my very favorite Santana tunes, so the connections just make me enjoy "Stay" even more. -Tom

I remember when you did the video about David Ryan Harris playing in a small bar with John Mayer and Sharkey and a few other incredible musicians. Stuck with me all this time how incredible a player he is. Always love seeing talented musicians getting the respect they deserve. I don't usually make song requests because I know you probably have a list a mile long. If you don't get the opportunity to do a video covering it, I would still check out Magnetar by Mark Lettieri. I think you've covered Snarky Puppy a few times and he does guitar work for them. I usually prefer this version: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hKt_dc2KuZjYc3U.html It's live and he has his full band with him. Like I said, I would never expect this to be covered on the channel, but I just wanted to pay you back for all the incredible artists you've introduced me to. Hope the start of your new year is going well, and I hope this year brings good things for you channel. Always enjoy seeing your videos pop up in my notifications, it usually means I can add another song to my playlist haha.

Sharkey is incredible. Every time I think about learning his style, I chuckle and remind myself that I’m garbage. But it’s funny, because in some performances I’ve seen, I do hear him hitting the wrong notes by mistake. I think that’s probably just because he isn’t afraid of making mistakes though. Sign of a truly mature player.

@michaelpalmisanoI think if I want this style, RnB, I'm going with Ginuwine ,his 100% Ginuwine album has beautiful melody, without guitar solos. You said you weren't familiar with the genre ,more or less. I would say check out Aaliyah-self titled, its red cover is easy to spot. The whole album is great. Also, you should check out Ginuwine The Bachelor album, this album has crazy melodies, unbelievable . Personally, I have not listened to this style in a while, currently studying some tech death- Archspire, Infant Annihilator, my favorite musician and his band,Jonas Bryssling and Spawn of Possession. I started playing because of Yngwie, Jonas to me is Swedens best metal player.
