Abdon reviews the ISC Rope Wrench, the Godfather of SRT climbing tools. Invented by Michigan's own Kevin Bingham. The Rope Wrench was designed to be used in conjunction with a hitch-based system for SRT/SRS climbers. For this purpose, it is a device that cannot be beat!

For the light guys you can also use your hitch to push a bit more line through on limb walks. Instead of twerking a little collapse you hitch a tiny bit, then push through so the “sit back” on the rope slighly makes it way through

Great review. How do you people or others feel about using a thread lock on the thether attachment point bolt? 🇨🇦🇺🇸

Thank you! Personally, I don't add thread locker to that bolt. But, if one felt they needed to, then there wouldn't be an issue. Just remember to use the right thread locker and don't over apply.

Hey Abdon, question for you. I got the rope wrench on Friday, but I think I forgot a carabiner lol. Can you recommend what carabiner to use with this? Or am I good with the Ultra O? Thanks 😊

Unless you’re rocking a zig zag and chicane you only need one carabiner. The rope wrench connects in the same hole as your hitch cord

Is this the second generation? Thx notch released the flow wrench, what’s your opinions on them? Thx

Yes, the Rope Wrench shown in the video is the second gen. The Flow Wrench is good in the aspect that you can adjust your desired friction, as that seems to be the trend now with most new mechanicals. However, it does require tools to accomplish that. Personally, I like the 2nd gen Rope Wrench. This will also vary from person-to-person.

Godfather or Grandfather? Wouldn't you say the new kid on the block is ISC's Apex Rope Wrench with their Squirrel Tether?

Definitely Godfather! It's just the O.G. that started the SRS climbing evolution.

@@BartlettArboristSupply interesting you say evolution.. is DRS dead? Should we all just go SRS? You guys would be great at showing where DRS is still better if at all.
@BartlettArboristSupply
@BartlettArboristSupply Жыл бұрын
Moving rope is not dead, in fact it is still the main climbing style for most. Some prefer to ascend on an SRS configuration and then switch back over to a moving rope configuration. Whether to choose one technique over the other depends on the tree and the task. Majority of the time, I'll do removals in a Moving Rope configuration, followed by working the spar in SRS.

@@BartlettArboristSupply many thanks for clearing that up. Your advice aligns with the advice from Nicholas Grebe, Arborist Crew Leader Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board. I'd struggled to find that advice. It took watching many videos and aksing many questions to get a handle on where and when to use SRS and MRS. Nick's view is that SRS is good for ascents and to work in column type trees where you stay within 30 degrees of an imaginery plumb line from the anchor point such as Conifers. Whereas he says MRS is good in smaller trees or when working wider off-plumb beyond 30 degrees. He says this at the 1:45:30 mark in this video. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eLmoiteqmZaZY58.html
