Thanks for another great video, Bino. I went with the Zigzag for my first mechanical because it works well with many ropes and you don't have to adjust any friction settings. I'll be climbing on it this morning for the third time while pruning dead branches.

Bino could you do a video on a few different canopy anchors for the zig zag chicane setup that are retrievable its a tricky one because the zig zag is not midline attachable so it limits your options on canopy tie ins, more so with friction savers
@BinoH
@BinoH 2 жыл бұрын
You might want to check one of my videos. How to climb without an eye splice. It shows one option for a canopy tie. Another option is a floating canopy anchor.

Bino, thanks for the video. I currently use the rope wrench and rope runner pro and have considered adding the zig zag pro with the chicane. I enjoyed your video and think I will go ahead and get the set up. Do you have a "go to" climbing set up and do you prefer single rope or moving rope?
@BinoH

Yes my first choice is SRS with the Rope Wrench using a 24" cord and a Michoacán hitch with Hitch climber pulley and short tether.

Hello Bino, thanks for the great videos. I use Yale xtc on my zig zag and want to try an 11.7mm rope. I am a heavy climber, i worry 11.7 might move too fast on descent with my extra lbs and less friction. Apparently the zigzag works better on 11.7mm.

you attached on the saddle belt instead of the bridge, does it matter for positioning when rope walking or is that just your preference? my saddle is quite different and having trouble with leaning back instead of staying verticle, it was easier when at head height but had to advance with hand and couldn't use the chestie

I have an older zigzag and use it as a drt system for basically a fall arrest system when i spike a tree. I'm looking at converting over to the srt system mainly to incorporate a way to be rescue from the ground if the unthinkable happens and i am unable to descend on my own. I was looking at this step up due to having the zigzag already and purchasing the chiana with a basal anchor tied to a petzel ID for the ground guy to bring me down.. any downside to what im describing and any food for though you might have... all ears
@BinoH
@BinoH 11 ай бұрын
We've made a couple of videos on base anchors that you can release from the ground. It's a good idea but I think the only way someone would be able to rescue you from the ground is if there was nothing in your way. If you were injured and you lanyard was connected or if there were multiple branches below you. Some one would probably need to climb to you anyway and rescue you. Having a system that you could operate from the ground would help.

Hi Bino, what do you think about using the Petzl Chicane with an ordinary friction cord ( e.g. Distel, or Michocan) and for example the Hitch climber Pulley? I guess it would be possible, can you imagine any disadvantages? Would it a be secure way to climb SRT? Maybe you want to do a video about this issue!?! Many greetings from Germany, I really love your videos!!!

It works great first thing I did with chicane few years ago .only it can't be instantly collapsed like a wrope wrench as easily. There is a technique or if you have huge hands .but other than that it's far smoother with hitchclimber than rope wrench is.onky that one hick up .on limb walks.if you notice most every tether theses days is stiffer and a copy off the chicane. Design just altered. You don't want to side load chicane over small limbs sideways but otherwise great .I still prefer hitches cords.but zigzag in moving rope can't be beat .friction is hard with hitches. Especially natural crotch wich is what your going to do at work .I'm talking about tree removals work .not hanging out .your either spikeing up .setting line or spikeing up advancing one.rare occasions you can,set a line first. Unless you basal tie and just go for it then switch once ready .

Bono, rather than feeding twice when moving the tie in point, unclip the Chacaine to let the rope free and clip in once the new tie in is set. Love the zig zag, and it does take time to get used to releasing to descend. Hopefully soon the Chacaine can be added.

Hi Mr Bino, what is this green rope your're using in the demo? Which brand of rope is fit better on this Petzl gears right now ?

It's a Silver Ivy. You should look into the Zigzag manual for other rope options and specs.

Why do you need to use the chicane with the,zig zag? Thought zigzag zag was good enough by itself. Whats the difference between the chicane and a rope wrench? Thanks for videos 😉
@BinoH
@BinoH Жыл бұрын
The Zigzag by itself is okay to use in an moving rope system but it you want to use it in a Stationary Rope System you need the chicane. Petzl created the chicane for that purpose. It's possible to use the rope wrench but not recommended by Petzl. You're welcome!

Just a thought he may be past doing actual cutting work but has knowledge to impart. Olympic athletes do not get trained by active competitors and in fact often the coaches in anything were not the greats themselves. I make no claims to know the man or a thing about climbing either as that is not the issue at hand. Calling the guy out because he in your view isn't an active tree worker or something is back handed as he is instructing the steps and processes. The ideal place to do would not be a job sight really as his attention should be on the work at that point. I'd bet he makes enough doing the videos cutting work can be scaled back or stopped. I've benefitted from the content myself and appreciate the work he's doing.

Not pretend at all! Awesome video. His info on the Zig Zag and Chicane was spot on. I use them commercially. He admitted they were new to him in this video, give him a break. As he’s probably figured out by now, spare hand on the tail of the rope when rappelling for more control and shorten the bridge on SRS to more easily reach above the Chicane. Adjustable bridge shines here, cinch it up. Finally, get good with a Big Shot and have that highest line set in 90 seconds from the ground. Every time. Cheers, PNW
