NGL the Isekai early this year that surprised the most was "wrong way to use healing magic". Its one of the few anime/Isekais I can think of where I go "how is it that I like the Main characters, the side characters and the background characters?!" Nobody is unlikeable in that show lol

As a light novel reader, I'll add one more promising isekai to the list. New Gate. It's basically a... if instead of escaping the death game in SAO, Kirito advanced to Log Horizon along with every player that died during the death game. It's not the greatest isekai, but it definitely understood mmorpgs almost as well as Log Horizon did.

I just started watching Mushoku Tensei this week. I'm already almost finished with the first season. Randomly decided to watch your video on it, and I wanted to start watching something new, so it worked out. Did not expect to like it so much, especially after ignoring it on Crunchyroll for so long due to the weird title. I'm glad I gave it a chance. I have no idea how to sum up my feelings on this story so far. It's incredibly... weird... with some of its subject matter, for all the reasons that have been talked about to death in the anime community. Luckily, I'm not a smoothbrain degenerate who can't look past controversy if there's a good story in the middle of it. There certainly is a GREAT story in the middle of it, and I'm enjoying it immensely. All the characters are great, even ones I didn't think I would like very much initially. Plot is kinda all over the place, but it always comes back together again in a satisfying way. Hell, I've already found myself tearing up once or twice. Honestly, it's one of those anime series that's struck a weird part of me in a very personal way. As a loser approaching 30 with a dead-end job and no real connections to anybody outside of work and gaming, I can't help but see some of myself in Rudeus' past life. All the stuff with his father tends to hit a bit hard for me too. Really didn't go into this thinking it was going to do that, given it's basically an isekai about a guy trying to get with three girls he meets as a child. I'll be looking forward to the second season, and hopefully more to come after that.

issue i have with overlord anime is that it skips so much of the inner dialogue, infighting and roundabout conversations that most of the actually interesting aspects of the setting are skipped and replaced by Ainz simply lucking his way through EVERYTHING rather than simply being a very knowledgable and cautious combatant with no actual admin/bureaucratic skills. in the LNs he spends his "rest" time (doesn't need to sleep) spying on almost everyone he can in order to learn or reading self-help books, the other half is spent walking around tripping into situations that turn to his advantage in the long-run (IMO his high RPG int-stat turning him into an idiot-savant, terrible conscious deductive skills but an incredibly polished instinct for when to make a move and where) in the LNs he's constantly training his "lower" subordinates, while handing the top 2-4 people he can't figure out a lot of the maintenance/planning/ruling/legal tasks (knowing he doesn't get it) and genuinely doing everything he can to further his goals of being a good leader and protecting the creations of his friends (even though most of them exasperate him by being utterly ruthless to each other and hold ZERO value in the lives of humans where he would prefer a less confrontational approach). a classic case of "neat 1st season, but i'm only watching it now because i want to see some of the standout moments i loved in the more detailed story animated" i'd honestly prefer they had done less episodes per season and had focussed the highlights of one novel at a time, this movie is hitting stuff in volume 12+ (of 16/17?) (and IMO it was one of the weaker arcs as it was viewed mostly from the perspective of a "random" who happened to be around ainz later on, the core story was pretty much "this lot can't hold their own even against regional issues, let's tip the balance and take advantage while pretending to be sneaky")

Plot twist, the mappa anime is an isekai about working your animators to death and them waking in another universe.

I've read the novel for Gimai Seikatsu, or Days with my Stepsister, and just like Garnt I was expecting some hot garbage. Surprisingly, it was a really mature take on the subject. At least. In the first few volumes, idk I haven't read beyond that.
