The Kwai sets sail from Rakahanga to Manihiki Atoll, an island famous for its pearl farming. After unloading the cargo and setting up the Kwai store, the crew heads over to the local pearl dealer to check out their supply. I purchased a beautiful black pearl for a future necklace project. We then went and watched the farming technique, an intricate process of seeding the clams to produce the beautiful pearls that we use in jewelry.
