Oh, instruments definitely are under threat from tech. Every time instrument modelling gets better, it removes opportunities for session musicians. It opens up creative possibilities too. But it's a legitimate concern.

I got my degree in Music Technology. Focused on film composing, audio engineering and acoustics. When I saw how dangerously competitive the music scene became in the late 2010s and how music libraries became more common. I saw how my future job was becoming obsolete already. I decided to go the acoustics rout in my career because architectural design, thus far, is still only completed with human efforts and it is difficult near impossible to automate.

I do not consider myself an “environmentalist,” but I believe in recycling when able and in not creating waste for landfills if possible. I also came from a poor, immigrant family. Therefore, I do not like my children watching those kinds of videos that crush perfectly good things for no reason. My visceral reaction is that it is just wasteful.

Actually, neither one of you get it. The pushback is from people like me that create media such as photography, music and other art for a living. I’m a commercial advertising photographer and over the last few decades I’ve seen the continual replacement of skill with technology. Another way of saying that is the replacement of artisans by tech and now by AI. We see ourselves as the things being crushed.

I'm a 63 year-old Android user who was very much around for the 1984 commercial. It was introduced during a Super Bowl where the 49ers crushed my beloved Dolphins. The new commercial didn't bother me one bit. I understood what they were going for and am fine with it. I'd like to think that we, as a society, are still strong and rational enough to understand that it's just a commercial, and that we all have lives. Apple has nothing to apologize for (in my opinion).

Bri with the shallowest take on the ad. It quite literally crushes all forms of analog human artistic expression and ingenuity as well as other forms of vintage entertainment like the arcade. Presumabely to make the point that the iPad is all you need to either create or enjoy these forms of human experience. We quite literally, have an entire generation of iPad kids growing up and, not for nothing, but you can see the harm it has had on human development and the ability to socialize and create anything meaningful besides tiktoks. The concept of beauty and the fundamental expressions that create beauty are completely lost.

My take is instead of stifling creativity by giving access to a few of these items. The new Apple IPad gives you all of this technology in one device. Expanding your creativity thousandfold. I mean, come on, Apple didn't really destroy any of these items. You can still acquire and use them. The truth is, do we really? Can't afford an easel, various paints, pens, canvases, and brushes? With the Apple IPad, it's all at your fingertips but for the cost of one piece of tech. I believe some people jump online just to whine about things that aren't really a problem. If you saw anything in this commercial that you want to use, go buy it. But don't be angry at Apple for giving you an alternative.
