More than two months into Israel’s deadly bombing campaign on Gaza, the death toll now stands at more than 18,000 amidst an ever-increasing humanitarian crisis.
The United Nations World Food Programme's deputy director, Carl Skau, has warned that Gaza residents are facing starvation with nine out of 10 people in Gaza not able to eat every day.
Despite the worsening crisis, the United States vetoed a UN Security Council resolution calling for a humanitarian ceasefire.
So what happens next? Can the international community push Israel towards a ceasefire? Are negotiations between Israel and Palestinians even possible?
On UpFront, Marc Lamont Hill talks with the former spokesperson for the Palestinian Liberation Organization, Hanan Ashrawi, about the US veto, the occupied West Bank and global public opinion on Palestine.

Since Hanan Ashrawi is independent, she must be consulted on the situation in Gaza, and how the roadmap can be or look like once Ceasefire takes place. She has the Palestinian people's interest at heart. Sitting down with her on a consultative status would be refreshing and beneficial, and she has a good grasp of the history behind how the decades long conflict began.

With no justice coming from abroad to help them what were the Palestinians to do? She is one of the bethrayors of Yasser Arafat, thinking of doing the right thing to help peace. She conspired with Mahmood Abbas against old man Ararat, allowing Israel to kill Arafat. That's what some palestinians said, but I could be wrong as I didn't investigate more deeply.

@@synaestesia-bg3ew It's possible. It's a very long history and I don't claim to know it. From what I've heard, Arafat betrayed the women of Palestine who at the time of his negotiations with Israel/US already had a much better deal. He backstabbed them and betrayed the interest of his people. Maybe this is one of those women. You can check out a documentary called "Naila and the Uprising" if you want, it's on yt.

I don't know if you are well informed but Arafat was a socialist,a secular who had plan to emancipate palestinian women, send them to school. He was not a Islamist, but a nationalist secular who accepted a two state solution in the later stage of his life.

The same thing happened in Australia and in Taiwan (hundreds of years ago when the Chinese began settling the island which already had several different peoples living there). So, in this short list, Native Americans, the native people of Taiwan and the Aboriginal people of Australia all lost their lands and became second class citizens - just like the Palestinians.

Now You say Humanity for Palestenian when you were the same people who Funded Aid to Palestine of more than $40.5Billion from 1994-2020 and $5.4Billion was allotted to Gaza and $600Million alone in 2020 but with NO SAFEGUARD or ACCOUNTABILITY to whoever spend it for or where...it's either PURE DUMBNESS or OUTRIGHT Negligence. Most of this $Billion were handed mostly to HAMAS to uplift the lives of their own people but where did they spent this $Billion Aids??? That Aid could have given Gaza potable water every 100m of their state, could have build advance and fully supplied Hospital with a HealthCare system available to all of its Constituents, Advance Modern day Schools with FREE EDUCATION to all it's Youth. But where did they spent the money on??? Stockfiling of Weapons and Armamaments and built $Billion Bunker/Tunnels where they can hide SAFE and SOUND while leaving their own Civilians as HUMAN SHIELDS and absorb the brunt of Israels RETTALIATION in whom they INSTIGATED in the first place. Worst is they (HAMAS) pocketed those $Billion among themselves and live a life of plenty while leaving their own people impoverished. Intentionally DEPRIVED their people of their BASIC NEEDS and point a finger to Israel to blame. In this war....one thing is for sure... HAMAS wants to ANAHILATE Israel and Jews and Israel wont let it happen. So its now a game of "YOU INTEND TO KILL ME? SO I WILL KILL YOU FIRST".

UN charter is immediate need of update. If a veto member is out of majority voter like US for Israel. Majority UN members could expel such state who is violating human right abusing its power to veto. Prace in world can not be achieved in future and every country will do what deemed necessary for their national interest. UN will loose its integrity if this injustice not solved immediately
