Brit here, and a big FAL fan. The UK army's version, the L1A1, was made in the Lee Enfied factory in North London, under license from FN. It was a great rifle, and soldiers liked it a lot. I used it in the cadets in the 1980s, and fired it again recently. Although we moved to the SA80 in the mid 80s, the SAS continued using the L1A1 from vehicles in the first Gulf War because it was good over long open spaces (the SAS never used the SA80). The updated SA80 is actually a fine rifle, it was only the first version that was crap. And 5.56 is the only sensible choice for foot infantry today.. you can carry 600 rounds of 5.56 for only 280 rounds of 7.62. I have heard that the problems with the Israeli FAL wasn't the rifle's fault, it was more because the IDF soldiers (mostly doing mandatory service) were not the most professional, and didn't really know how to look after their FALs. The UK put sand cuts in the bolt carrier to clear sand from the action following experience in the Suez crisis. Anyway the Israeli FAL is really nice, as are the early UK versions, with the beautiful wood furniture. And power to Israel at the moment..

I have an IMBEL FAL dressed with Israeli stock and wood and steel fore arm with combo flash suppressor which later Israeli FALs were made on them to solve the bayonet problem and rifle grenade usage which the Israeli infantry was a big fan of.

You mentioned that the Israeli FALs didn't have the flash hiders as many of the European ones had. Back in the 1980s, when some Israeli parts kits came onto the US market, I picked up a light FAL kit. That Israeli-marked barrel did have the short flash hider/brake/launcher similar you would find on Metric FALs. This isn't Forgotten Weapons or the Royal Armouries, so I don't imagine you would go into all the variations that may have existed, but I thought I'd mention that. So if you find an Israeli FAL with a muzzle gadget, it may still be "correct".

Thanks for the great video!!!! I remember that before the assault rifle ban these rifles were the least costing FAL rifles, the budget shooters, running around $780. Parts kits for alll kinds of FALs were for sale through the Gun List for approx $150 to $250, all parts minus the receiver. Oh how I wish those days were still here!!!!!

Can you please do a video going further in depth on the web gear? I have been collecting Israeli web gear for a while but cant find a lot of info on them (for example, what was the web gear called or referred to as? Was there a pattern/model number associated with the webbing?).Wondering if you may know a bit more about them and could share what you know with us.

Have that exact same Fal. What do you think of Forgotten Weapons saying that the reliability issues were more due to maintenance as opposed to sand/adverse conditions? Also, I have always wondered is the light barrel Israeli FAL light than other FAL barrels? Or is it just light in the context of the HB version?
