In this episode, Richard Bass explains how the 19th century saw the rise of both Jewish and Arab nationalist movements. We describe the inception of Zionism and how it grew out of a need to address growing anti-semitism. We’ll also explain how Arab intellectuals were imagining a powerful political union between all Arab states, and how these two political movements would eventually meet in Israel-Palestine.

I want to thank everyone who has subscribed and is watching. I very much appreciate your valuable feedback and want to address the comments about the length of the videos. There have been a number of comments, and some expressions of disappointment or frustration, that the episodes are not longer. Some have asked why. There are a few reasons why the videos are the length they are. The videos were created to work in conjunction with the companion study guide and the episodes are following the topic sections of the guide (which offers more detail for those want to go deeper). Decisions about the length of each video therefore, were based on what would achieve the most logical and balanced presentation possible. For example, giving the segment on Christianity and Israel-Palestine it’s own video roughly equal in content to the segment on Islam. Decisions about the length of the videos was also determined by balancing the desire to create the most graphically rich and professional series we could produce within the budget that we had to work with. Longer videos would have required compromising on graphics. These are some of the reasons for why the episodes are the length that they are. As we move into producing the next round of videos (the ones after episode 8) consideration will be given to all the feedback that’s been provided and we will revisit the length of the segments going forward. In the interim, I want to express my sincere appreciation for your interest and feedback and I hope that you will continue to watch and share the series. In the future, we will aim to create longer videos or release content faster, and are grateful that the major complaint so far is that the videos are too short. With gratitude, Richard

Thanks for the reply, Richard. Have you considered crowd funding your series? Surely some of your subscribers would be happy to contribute (myself included) if there was an easy way to do so. Perhaps you can go through Subbable like crash course to help keep up the graphical integrity you strive for, while producing longer or more frequent episodes. Keep up the great work!

@OriZielonka

It's the most historically accurate (so far), balanced (so far), detailed (yet relevant) and above all beautifully-designed series about the subject I have seen in KZfaq (so far ;P ). All in all it is very important that everyone will watch it without prejudging. There are too many people who think they have opinion on that subject without knowing the facts and history, and this ignorance is the best friend of hatred. I hope it will bring people to understand the conflict more deeply, and that it is complicated. I also hope it won't make them think that both sides are right, as a good old post-modern twisted mind work... There is only one truth, but the way to it is hard for most. BTW: The name is a bit ridiculous, but that is what you get when you try to be as non-judgmental as possible... Good job.

Yet another painfully short clip. Richard Bass, I've commented on your last video regarding the length of your series. Can you please shed some light on the deciding factors in play, to produce such short episodes? I'll assure you that this criticism comes from a deep appreciation for the work that you are doing with this series. But at this point, the length of your episodes is a common theme among the comments section of every episode, and we would all love to know.

Missing event: British Navy under Churchill made the decision to switch from coal fired to oil fired ships. Brits had plenty of coal at home but oil could only be obtained from Middle East. Britain needed a political ally and military/naval base on the Mediterranean to control the oil. This was prior to WWI. That was the deal that initiated support for Zionism in Syria/Palestine. Also, behind any conflict will be found a common promoter, which this video describes but does not identify. In this case the Brits. Further, one should follow the course of the Anglo American Establishment that was produced by the Rhodes fortune and propagated by Lord Milner. It resulted in the formation of the Royal Institute of International Affairs in UK and Council on Foreign Relations in the US. Also of note is that conflicts and bad ideas in general seem to originate with intellectuals. Intellectuals have led humanity over the edge into war and disaster because intellectuals live in a world of ideas divorced from reality. The populace of any country resists war and conflict until fully propagandized by intellectuals.

Zionism didn't start in the Middle East. It is a European movement that sought refugee to Palestine. Many Zionists were Russian Jews and not Arab Jews, as Jews made 3% of Palestine before the first aliyah (Jewish immigration). The second aliyah arguably brought with it Zionism as we know it today (territorial and sovereignty ambitions)

I really enjoy your films. But I feel, especially in the case of this one you should be more specific in your faces. (for the less factual viewers) talking about Germany, pre 1900 was a small country, compared to today. Also you mentioned Theodor Herzl, an 'Austrian' he was an Austro-Hungarian. Which was a vast empire. (Which is why many say Hitler was Austrian not German). But still, keep up the impressive work.

I had such high hopes for this channel, but the content is coming out too slow.Three minutes with this many days between them terrible. I won't share it with my friends because there is not enough to make it worth it. By the time you finish releasing all the videos the newness will have worn off. It looks like you have made all the videos already and are just doing a drawn out release. Release the videos quicker, get some excitement for the channel and then you can get more money for making more content.

@@shainazion4073 The research about Askhenazi jews is really confusing, every study says something different, but surely part of their DNA is Canaanite, That's is not debatable. Similarly I have an Arab DNA because my dad's trib claims to have came from Yemen a couple of hundred years ago while my mum is purely North African. That doesn't say I am an Arab, but that I have an Arab ancestry, and doesn't make me own any piece of land in Yemen where everyone is Either 100% Yemeni or someone from the neighboring regions.

Babylonian Hebrew _I don't think you understand how bigoty/intimidation works_ I don't think that you do. When Europeans are critical towards the actions of the state Israel, we are called antisematic and bigoted. This is called: playing the victim card, because even if it is 2 generations ago, the Jews are still a sensitive area for many Europeans. _Jews in Europe were, and are, still looked down upon today_ No, you're confusing criticism with looking down upon... _Fuck off with that "victimhood" bollocks, I bet you have never been a minority population_ And here you play the victim card yourself, why should i treat you different for being from a minority population??? gimme 1 good reason. No, the deep rooted antisemitism was evidenced by the mobs of thousands that shouted "Death to the Jews", the scores of riots that looted hundreds of Jewish shops and killed several Jews. The paradox that countries that granted Jews equal rights went on to experience a surge in antisemitic sentiment is what led Theodore Herzl to become a Zionist. Maybe do some research before writing silly comments

This video makes a very SERIOUS MISREPRESENTATION. The important element missed in this video series is who Arabs, Jews and Palestinian Jews are at this stage of the emergence of Nationalism during the Colonial era. Jews outside of "Arab" countries are actually communities established before the modern Arabs became known as Arabs. And that Palestinians are actually the original people of the land who now speak Arabic. This MISREPRESENTATION is actually a crucial missing piece to understanding the matter. Arabs did not become the majority speaking people. Palestinians were Islamised and Arabised i.e. those indigenous people who did not emigrate from Palestine.
@shainazion4073
@shainazion4073 Жыл бұрын
No, the Palestinians of today are not indigenous to the land, only about 30% are. The rest are Muslims and Arabs that came as refugees from other Arab and Muslim countries after 1850. The Turkemans, Circassians, Chechins, Bosniaks and others are not Palestinians. Either are Syrians, Egyptians, Lebanese people.
