A quick demonstration of how powerful the airbus 220-100 actually is. On this ferry flight from Florence to Zurich i had the chance to witness one of the most likely shortest takeoff rolls you can have on a plane of swiss. No passengers, only crew and some bags in the hold = A rocket like departure!

I experienced a Swiss A220 take off from London City airport - the engine spooled up with the brakes still on, and upon release you can feel the whole plane lean back. Then a few seconds later the engine spools up even more, resulting in a second push. The plane seemed to lift off in just over 10 seconds - it was the most exhilarating take off I have experienced.
@srinitaaigaura
@srinitaaigaura Жыл бұрын
That's exactly what it sounds like here too. Maybe the engine waits for a while for the air to start rushing into the engines before going to TOGA thrust.
@SYDAirlineEnthusiast

You basically would need to liftoff within ten seconds. The runway is only 4,900 feet and you need to be of a certain altitude by the time you fly over Downtown London
@abdullaharif6455
@abdullaharif6455 7 ай бұрын
@@srinitaaigaura The second spool during the takeoff is the engines going to the set thrust (1:55), after initially being limited to a slightly lower thrust until a certain speed was reached. This low speed thrust limitation is to keep the aircraft more stable at low speed.

@@dnhug Btw as a passenger I never got the chance to fly with just the A220, I continued to fly with the 320neo and 321.. for short distances. I don't really like long haul flights with big planes like 777, A340 etc.. I like flying narrow body planes. Of course, using a wide body aircraft for long haul purposes is more comfortable, but I like transiting at each country's airport, even if it's only 30 minutes or even 1 hour. I really like the frequent take off and landing moments, allowing me to see the mainland of the country I visit more often :)

Impressive. Would recommend flat palming the back of the throttles in case you need to apply TOGA (just push forward). Putting your fingers around them runs the risk of pulling them back if the chair shifts backwards. Watched that happen to a Capt on the 727. If you flat palm the back, if you go back, you don't take the throttles with you.

Hi Dom…just looking at it from the Jumpseat, he stood on the brakes as he set the thrust, so yep 0-120kts in 15 seconds…he didn’t seem to get to 20 degree nose up which is odd considering the airplane can do that in its sleep. Of course, I’m an E175 guy, so we can launch out of KEYW on about 4000ft of runway with a full load of pax bags and about 15000lbs of gas. Empty we will only use about 3000ft. I am still waiting to fly the 220…I’ll find something in the US I can jumpseat on and report back. Nice to be subscribed!

Canadian design and technology!

Steve a Canadian design and some of the technology, but we had several development tech partners. Rockwell Collins developed the flight deck systems and a few more. But when the program for CSeries was halted for 4 yrs, Rockwell moved from Montreal to toronto with Bombardier dehavelland and continued the Vision System, and we integrated it into the Global Express. It flew there first. I worked with both the Montreal and Toronto dev teams. I also worked on the original RJ program from 1990. There were fun and sad times over the years but I wouldn't have traded these experiences for anything. I am proud of the now A220 (this a 😔 issue for me) it was given away to Airbus. Thanks for noting the Canadian roots, I appreciate it. AIRBUS only put a new label on it, they were not involved in any part of the program.

5,000 Feet per minute Vertical speed. You don't see that often in an airliner😄.

When I hit the American PowerBall or MegaMillions lottery, I’m going to buy and deck out a private A-220. Do you think they can be made long range with additional fuel tanks in place of some of the baggage space? 😉

The airplane must have been light, + overpowered airplane (engine output is huge for that type of aircraft) = short TO roll
