Tip I’ve heard from a few people: get a bullbar if you can. Only real issue is that you have to lower it first if you need to open the hood, but that’s relatively easy nowadays with some modern ones. Having a bullbar helps protect the front of your truck, and it can be easily replaced if it gets damaged, whereas if you damage the hood/bumper it’s more costly. Stay safe out there ❤

There is a Garmin GPS that comes with the camera which is the one I have it works really good even when hit a hard bump or speed bump or whatever the camera comes on and start recording so it's pretty good. Welcome to the club…. I hit one in my 2014 Corvette back in June. Broke the driver’s side headlight assembly and scuffed up the fascia. I was able to buff out the scuff mark and had to remove the fascia to replace the light assembly. Deer didn’t fare to well, it landed in the swamp.

Here in Norway we have fencing in some areas to make the elk or deer migrate over a certain part of the road, where the speed limit is set a bit lower and there are street lights and signs warning about animal crossing.

I high centered a freshly hit deer in the semi on I35 north of Mason City, Iowa, during pre-dawn hours and, yes, it steamed like a bowl of hot soup!!

I feel your pain. I hit a deer October 3rd, got my car back from the collision place on November 1st, hit 2 deer at the same time on November 3rd. I’ve never hit a deer in my life until this.

i recently hit a deer too lol, pretty big sized buck actually, first time hitting one and in a forte at that, headlight was fully smashed and fender is still dented, thankfully i just hit the back end of it too, otherwise id be out a car and probably worse. good thing you and your truck are mostly good though, good luck!

I have clipped a few in my career. I have 38 years of experience. Maybe 3-4 times in all that time. Only one made me use a bungee cord to hold the bumper up. I did that for a week. Then? Into the terminal to replace it. If you think its cheap now? Hopefully they'll let you hang out in the shop when they put it on. I had a Cascadia when I did the last one. They just asked me what happened and looked at the camera footage. Yeah, I live in PA. They're all over the country. Safer travels and don't sweat the small stuff

2:53pm Monday 11-6-2023 On my way to work I decided to take Co Rd 1 (which I rarely do) in South Point/Burlington, OH and I’m 99% sure I saw your truck, Dave. It’s parked at Navy LJ Trucking. Bumper was missing on the left side and I couldn’t see the right side. It was connected to an Online trailer.

I'm a driver in the Netherlands. I have a similar experience. I drove for a company for 1.5 years. I've been inside Brussels, Amsterdam, the Hague, Antwerp and many more cities. All with a tractor trailer. Never damaged anything. I started working for a new company 2 months ago, doing FTL now instead of LTL. I backed into a parked van last week. 🤦🏻‍♂️

I hit a rogue traffic cone in Des Moines driving OTR and sounded horrible! I hit a raccoon in my 4 wheeler going 70 in middle of dark and felt like I hit a cinder block. It caused $1800 in damage! I look forward to Sunday night RWD postings. It brings me back to my driving days.

They should put grille guards on ALL semi trucks in my opinion. We have them on our and it has saved us from a lot of damage to our trucks

Look exactly like my Volvo. I was traveling on SR20 heading west out of Ohio entering Indiana. A dear was on the left side of the road (east bound). I saw the damn thing from afar. As soon as I go right up on it, she darted across the road right in front of my truck - I tore her ass up. I didn't think too much of the damage at the time. I kept going and pulled into a Loves near SR20 and I69. Walked around the driver side of my truck and almost passed out at the catastrophic damage that thing caused.

up in canada we got moose bumpers (or deer guards, or whatever you wanna call them) basically 5000 lbs of pure steel. car wants to break check you? theyre dead.

tell you what you should do. instead of replacing the bumper with a another cheap plastic one that well probably break again in a week's time. you should get it replaced with a heavy duty bumper plus even get them to put a bullbar at the front as well.

Four-wheeler driver here. Not even a couple weeks after I got one of my cars, I clipped a deer. I think all that did was shave a little hair off, because he ran off and jumped over a farmer's fence.

Ask the company to invest in a deer guard... Suck factor is still through the roof when it happens with one, but it does minimize the truck damage as compared to a collision without one... One trick that my father taught me to avoid deer... Deer alert whistles... You can pick them up nearly anywhere, (Auto Store, Truck Stop, Walmart, Online, etc) and are quite cheap, and are usually easy to install... There many different shapes and colors, and they can be easily found in the 5-10 dollar range... I can't swear to they absolutely work or not, but I have never hit one with them on my front bumper in my 20+ years of driving/training... I consider it a good investment, especially for the price... I am NOT saying it will ward off 100% of the wildlife that will get in your way, since some of the animals won't take the hint...It should, however, significantly decrease the odds of it happening... You still have to be just as alert as you would be without them, but even if it works only 10% of the time, it is STILL an advantage... Unfortunately, it is NOT a magic wand...

My company refuses to install cattle guards. Simply due to the looks. Owner doesn’t want that ‘look’ and will pay for small damages that occurs. I hit a deer on I-85N 12 miles from I485 in Charlotte. Burst the radiator so got towed into the Charlotte Service Center. Grabbed another unit and came on home to Columbia. Mine was a buck. 😂

Maybe it was the same deer balancing out the truck running back across. Maybe your company should invest in putting guards on the front

Pa is so bad for deer on the highways . I drive triaxle haul asphalt and my dad hauls dry ice to New York and Jersey and stuff, he goes out at night and checks out all the dead deer on his run because it’s a constant lol then I see them all during the day

Hey Dave! Love the channel. Just started my truck-driving career (today is Day6). At the end of Day3, i popped a tire & jacked up the rim pretty bad (f-you to the trucker gps). Anybody have any suggestions on a good trucker gps?

It’s sad how easily those bumper ends break off. Only one plastic thumb-lock holds them on.

I remember one time I had to take a detour into the woods .. it was like 3 am and I get to a T intersection.. but there’s nobody around.. so I take the turn really wide because it was really dark.. my phone falls to the floor and im like “😳 what was that?” So I slow down to pick my phone up and put it on the dash.. but since the phone turned on it was shining on my windshield and Im so confused.. I see my Niece who I have on my phone.. and I think “awe I love her so much” and since I had slowed down a lot to pick up the phone I look up and a Deer and her Baby were walking across the Road and when I stepped on the breaks a little bit just to actually let them through they ran across.. I texted my niece later that day to thank her for stopping me from hitting those Deer 😂
