Definite 80s vibe. The opening sequence appears -- visually and soundtrack wise -- to me as an homage to the completely underrated 80s movie "The Stepfather." That really hooked me from the start. One of my favorite movies ever.

This movie was scary but in a different way, sure the antagonist i guess called "it" wasn't a fast moving strong thing, but the soundtrack built suspense and they set it up in a way where you never knew whether the buildup was going to end in a pop-up on screen, or just sizzle out into a calm scene, it kept me scared the whole time and it was very creative, felt like something right off of /r/nosleep

Just watched it and I loved it. So tense and a brilliant idea for a film, it could've been made with next to no budget at all. When that old woman was walking towards the classroom it really got under my skin (as did several other scenes), and some of the scariest scenes are in broad daylight. Great film one of my favourite horrors.

Marty Z It's loosely based on the STD Aids. The urban legend from the 80s where some guy/woman would pick someone up at a bar, bring them to a hotel, fuck, then when the person woke up they'd see on the mirror "WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF AIDS." It's also based off of the directors nightmares he had as a child, where literally what's happening in the movie, happened to him in his dreams. Something/one would follow him, just walking very slow, staring at him, no one could see this person only him and he would run. But every time he would run and think he was safe, and then it would just turn around the corner and walk towards him. >_

To pull off both an original and great horror film nowadays is really one hell of an achievement. Also to not rely on gore or jump scares to unease the viewer is another thing to celebrate. I always felt that it would make it a lot scarier if Jay actually saw someone walking in the tile reflection on the wall when she’s in the hospital. This movie creates such a perfect paranoia about who’s actually who, and putting such an ambiguous shot like that in would have been incredible. That being said, this movie is absolutely perfect the way it is.

I hate how underestimated this movie is by a lot of people. There's a reason why Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 96%, ladies and gentlemen. First of all, this movie has the creepiest soundtrack I have ever heard in my entire life. I'm not joking, this soundtrack is like what you can only hear if you're living in the 90s. Extremely spine-chilling if you're at the theater. Second of all, this movie has obvious educative messages and HIV/AIDS awareness undertones. The characters must have sex in order to rid themselves off the curse, but they'll pass it on to someone else and feel guilty about it. It's like the reality: teens having unprotected sex and getting STDs and transferring them to next partner.. Even more terrifying that being haunted. Aside from that, did you notice the scene in which Jay sits in class and the teacher reads one of T.S.Elliot's works: "The Love Song of J.Alfred Prufrock?" And that scene when Yara reads two passages from Fyodor Dostoevsky's "The Idiot"? Those passages are about the imminence of death and how people fail at postponing their end. Third of all, the antagonist of the movie. "It." It is not a human, it is a malicious entity that apparently just kills. Oh, shape-shifting is its hobby too. So the point here is, the entity isn't a gruesome, hideous devil. IT is just the embodiment of our fear. IT is always two steps behind us, watching us, waiting to catch up... Ever had a feeling of being followed? That's what IT is all about. The antagonist plans to strike in that same fear of yours and maximize it. We are afraid of it, so we run, but it follows, and it never stops, like how our fear will hardly ever leave us. That's your part, but as for Jay, well, she's gonna suffer forever. IT just keeps following you and you just have to keep running, but it will catch up to you and then you'll die. Even if you pass it on, the other victims won't survive forever, and it will come back to you, and you'll have to keep doing it over and over again. And you'll still end up dead. => So what's this movie about? Much like Oculus and The Babadook (brilliant things,) it tries to strike into your fear. Imagine, you wake up in the morning, gaze out the window and find a stranger staring unblinkingly at you, always trying to come closer until it can stand next to your bed and watch you sleep. You can't trust anyone, because it can be everyone. Hear knocks on the door? Maybe it's IT, maybe it's not. You can't be sure. Hear strange sounds around the house at night? What if that's IT walking to you? You are never safe. Always watched, always followed, always vulnerable to death. Pass it on, and you still see it. It will come back one day. You'll never be at peace. Let that soak in.

***** I understand that you have your reasons to feel a bit disappointed, frankly, I was a little too, that was the inner selfish me who got possessed by the crave for gore and blood and hideous creatures that startle the light out of you. IT was almost non-existent in this movie, it was almost like something hiding behind the curtains and you're just gonna imagine it. But I have to say, please don't overthink it. It's pretty simple: IT's only motive is to kill. Perhaps it's a type of evil from hell, you can imagine. Like many maniacs, living or dead, wrecking havoc gives it pleasure. What else could it be? It's not ex-girlfriend's vengeful spirit now is it? The reason why you can only get rid of it by sex is very clear? It was explained? The entity works like a parasite, a virus. It leaves your body to get a new host, and it creates a collection. It's an endless circle, that's all. Did you expect someone to squeeze in an hour of explaining what this entity is? Don't think so. This movie leaves room for imagination. IT can be anything you want! It's the embodiment of fear, remember? It feeds off of you. I respect your opinion, however. I heard somewhere that a sequel about IT's origin might come, so we hope for that.
@bananabread112
@bananabread112 8 жыл бұрын
+Myron Ketz I like that IT never got explained. It keeps you guessing and making theories like an urban legend and that's what this movie is all about. For anyone wondering, this movie was a great indie-horror movie! For a horror movie, and it's low budget, this film just had great scenes, acting, plot, and script in general. Unlike most modern horror movies where there are jump scares constantly, this movie had none, and if they did, they were hardly noticeable. The movie in general isn't terrifying, but it's very creepy and it leaves you feeling... Well creeped out. The reason behind this is because it's based off the director's series of dreams that he had in his sleep. And to see someone's dreams come to an actual film, well that's just one of the creepiest things I can think of. And if you're wondering, it got around a 94% of rotten tomatoes, and some of the critics even left the theatre because they were so genuinely creeped out.

After hearing about it and seeing some scenes and trailers for months, I finally decided to Watch it and let's just say...that it creeped into my core. Usually the scariest horror flicks aren't the ones with lots of action and jump-scares around every corner, no, it's the subtle ones. The ones that deals with psychological horror, like this one (even though it's an actual entitiy). The whole film was fantastic. Acting was superb, the soundtrack eerie, the atmosphere effectively spooky (even in broad Daylight), the cinematography and how the used the cameras. Hell, the plot might be "out there", yet obviously is a metaphor. However, it's executed so well, so very well, that it sucks you in immediately. Well done, creators of this Movie.

The direction on this film is spectacular, definitely inspiration by Kubrick. The score is terrifying and incredibly suspenseful. The dialogue is great. “It” isn't so big or scary but it makes your heart pump. This is one of the greatest horror films I've seen. Ever. Definitely best film of 2015 so far. Just watch it.

***** The shallow premise is honestly exused by the fact that it's a homage to old school american horror. Similarly: Guillamo Del Toro recently directed and wrote a movie with an even more simple plot (Crimson Peak), but the charm of that movie was the fact that it was a homage to 19th century goth thriller. Sure, the modern audience may find it worn out and stupid, but it has its charm imo.

this movie was horrifying. i dont care what anyone says. I watched it alone in the dark at around midnight and i could barely fall asleep for 2 days straight. it made my skin heat and during those quiet, slow scenes i held my breath and waited for something to happen, but I could never predict when it would. a true nail biter this was. people seem to often underestimate the avidity of fear, but the idealism behind this concept was purely phenomenal. I loved it, and I appreciated every single minute of it.

I can't help but imagine myself in that situation being followed in populous area and still be super scared. Or meeting the entity in small areas like the bathroom. As you come into this world, something else is also born. You begin your life, and it begins a journey towards you. It moves slowly, but it never stops. Wherever you go, whatever path you take, it will follow - never faster, never slower, always coming. You will run, it will walk. You will rest, *it will not* . One day, you will linger in the same place too long - you will sit too still, or sleep too deep. And when, too late, you rise to go, you will notice a second shadow next to yours. Your life will then be over.

i love how people just say this movie sucks because they dont get it, the truth is everyone has its own preference regarding horror, i myself am tired of the same horror film formula of some possessed kids/girl having a supernatural past revealed until the near end, trying to scare the audience doing undeserved jumpscares, and everything involved either a cabin or a haunted house of some sort. this movies goes a different approach, it use psychological horror,aided by proper atmosphere, exploiting the paranoia of humans, of feeling something is out there following us, doesn't matter where we are or what we do it will catch us. even looking at people on the street becomes stressing at some point. other thing i enjoyed, is that they didn't explained everything about the entity like the regular horror movies, the fact that even after the credits remains a mystery adds to the experience.

I guess people want explanations in almost every movie. My favorite literature is Mizuaki and HP Lovecraft. I love them because you aren’t given back stories of where the horror comes from. Which is the best when given the imagination. Like if if they said the monster was a demon, alien, ghost, the tension would had been for nothing. Not all teens need to be genius to understand the monster. That makes it feel more real in my opinion

You can see in the comments that this is a love or hate movie. Personally I love it. People who hate it are coming into it from a perspective of trying to make sense of it. That's not what it's meant to do. It's an atmospheric horror film that aims to play with your mind. Younger generations I have found don't quite get it due to a propensity for instant gratification and a lack of capacity to grasp the 70s - 80s feel.

Parsinex 000 the concept or presence this movie brings is no where near difficult to understand/see Like I said if you hold this up to such high standards then you must not watch a lot of horror movies

Maleik The ending is that they think they killed it, so the girl and the guy have sex, and trust each other. The real mystery is if it’s still alive, if you saw someone walking the same direction as them in the back.

LOL I found myself watching just about everyone on screen to see if they were the "IT". The ending was so sudden. I want a sequel.

I rarely go to the movies and feel completely satisfied with what I saw. This was one of the cases. This movie is a 10.
