Here in the U. S. We sing the third verse like this. "My sin - O the bliss of this glorious tho't-My sin-not in part but the whole, Is nailed to His cross and I bear it no more, Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul."

I have been crying sooo very much lately. Lost my only sister, parents, and my baby brother is gone. My parents departure did not hurt as much due to their 62 years of marriage. My baby passing was known, I prepared myself. But my sister, whom would have known. She suffered and I watched every minute until the SPIRIT and her last breath left her body. So I had to listen to this song to help me say" IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL💯🙏🙏😥😢🥲

There is a very strong anointing in the English version. It is especially beautiful when sung in a church congregation where male and female voices come through. Excellent for choir singing. The American version is in my view flat and seems to take away from the original composition.

Thank you. Just another bit of history. The Spaffords left the prysbeterian church after 1880 and unfortunately got into a doctrine that does not believe in eternal punishment. Also known as universalism which teaches that everybody will go to heaven. Sadly so.😢
