Everytime I watch this show, it never fails to capture such good writing and acting that it just breaks all expectations and doubt. It is incredibly genuine and poignant. And these scenes become more significant when one can relate to them, when one has experienced or are even going through something like it. I like this scene because I have gone through something like what Jet and Elisa have gone through. Knowing that the writers were able to identify and present an experience like that is just a refreshing but also bittersweet feeling.

All good my dude. It's not a great thing to experience loss, especially due to the actions and desires of another individual. However, it is a valuable experience to have. Would we both have chosen not to experience this type of loss knowing what we know now? It's difficult to not think counterfactually and attempt to see the course of alternate futures that might have been. Yet, finding meaning in life beyond caring greatly for a romantic partner who you thought would stick through anything with you, is a crucible that one cannot pretend to understand or fake their way through. Enjoy your life my dude, for it is now truly only yours.

The way he delivers “why you disappeared like that?” The way you hear the voice crack. It’s the question we all have and drags anyone who has experienced something like that right down with him.
@camerono.31834 жыл бұрын
Back in the days when bebop was being dubbed, anime voice acting didn’t pay well nor have much work. It was done as a gig by people who usually worked other jobs between to get by. I read that Spike’s voice actor was a janitor, no doubt the other new actors were in “getting by” work too. Same as the script writers. In a 9/11 America too when the whole world felt crazy, this show and it’s topics of alienation would have been relatable. They were the same as the characters in more ways than none.

Ever ask an ex why? Never a clear answer.... Story of my god dam life...
@poneetrahul6 жыл бұрын
I have discovered there's a tendency, in one's life narrative, towards casting exes as antagonists. For one reason or another, they weren't right, but the fault isn't with the protagonist. I feel like, in a lot of cases, protagonists grow and eventually have the maturity to commit to and make whatever (second, third, fourth, fifth, etc.) relationship they're in work for them. You can guess at the factors which influence their choices. There are plenty of things we look for in the "perfect" partner, but it may take the end of a relationship for individuals to grow into new people, better people, in general. Aziz Ansari's "Modern Romance" is a nice read on the experience of dating in the hyperconnected digital world we live in. Although, not all of the ideas above are presented in his book, he does write about perfection in dating/mate selection.

A girl I dated a few years back gave me a very personal note once, and then one day we just stopped talking and she blocked me. I was always looking for the reason as to why she ended up deciding to leave abruptly. I got hung up on my memories of her and tried to understand her decision. All this time felt I was living in a memory. Watching this episode helped me understand it is not the best to live in the past so I decided to throw away her note just like Jet did with the clock. It might sound corny but this is honestly why I love Cowboy Bebop.

I fucking love this scene. There's no backflashes that overstay their welcome, everything is spoken and shown through body language. We are essentially sitting in the bar while these two talk about their pasts, and we don't have the full context of what their lives where like, but it's obvious neither really got over it. We've all been in a situation where someone we care about left us, or cheated on us, or whatever. And sure, we feel mad about it for a while, but later on in life if we ever encounter them again, all we really want to know is why they chose to do what they did. That is why this is my personal favorite scene in the entire show. There's so much emotion in this scene, and Cowboy Bebop is intelligent enough to not rely on excessive explanation or pace killing flashbacks to explain it to us. You just listen to them. Beau Billingslea nailed it, and is my favorite Jet to date. The sadness in his voice is so real, you can practically taste it. And while Alisa says she forgot all about it, the shaking of her eyes as she tries to hold back tears tells you all you need to know. When she finally responds, she tries to sound confident but her voice is a bit shaky. You know she's lying to Jet about moving on, but she's also probably lying to herself, trying to reassure herself that she has. I'm rambling here, tl:dr - Cowboy Bebop is a masterpiece.
@poneetrahul2 жыл бұрын
Not TL. Well written!
@Leisurelee53 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. The thrust of the series was how people tend to get stopped in time and refuse or unable to move on. Most of us have things like that. Things we don't want to confront. And even when we get the chance to. Sometimes, we just avoid it. You can move on. But sometimes that movement is just waiting.
@MovedByBeauty Жыл бұрын
Well said. You captured the whole scene.
@garrettsanders4832 Жыл бұрын
Absolutely. Alisa seems much younger and thus more immature than Jet. When she finally tells him the truth at the end of the episode it shows she was lying here. She really does have the knowledge in her head, she just didn't have the courtesy or patience to dig it up for Jet earlier. It's easy to feel angry at her, but, her feelings are also natural. Dating someone who is far more mature in every aspect creates an imbalance that is not fun.

Somethings in life, you'll just never get the answers for. Don't let that hold you up. Cowboy Bebop never displays pessimism in this lack of meaning in life. Because it teaches us that although the universe doesn't always purpose or hope. We're still the creators of our own destiny. Every single person you encounter has a past and has suffered more than just ourselves, but the truth is if we want to live a life where we create our own meaning, we must accept our pasts. Because if we hold on to them they'll chain us to a tunnel vision of life.
@poneetrahul3 жыл бұрын
From the perspective of writing a story, creating characters to act as vehicles for delivering the story, one might see oneself as a sonder aware character of their own narrative. Our own narratives may exclude details that don't explain our current direction in life, our current situation, etc. However, someone who desires to be objective, values truth would hold on to even those past experiences that don't make a case for where we are, because they may be to others, significantly more important to their sonder aware or sonder unaware narratives. Consider the truth of what I have written and the truth of the following: the past had to have occured the way it did for the present to be, and to look counter-factually at the past is to often avoid worse outcomes in search of better ones. Consider it.

It's shows like this that are the reason why anime has made such a profound impact in North America. There hasn't been an adult animated series in the west that rivals this in terms of tone and execution. Everything's comedic and gross out which is fine, but the West is starving for adult animations like this. Not necessarily adult for the SAKE of being adult, but adult in its themes and attitude. In a sea of Family Guy and Rick and Morty type adult shows, I think everyone would kill for another Cowboy Bebop type show to be made here.

I was especially close to a friend that grew slowly romantic over time... and well... I didn't treat her as well as I could have and she just suddenly "disappeared" . She'd talk to me like nothing went wrong... but everything changed and slowly we drifted apart. Slowly stopped talking. It was only recently we really reconnected and had a real talk about everything. Nothing will ever be the same again, but it gives me a sense of closure knowing... I wasted nearly half a decade wondering "what I did wrong" to push her away to the point she wouldn't even tell me "why"... talking to her again... I was able to "throw my pocket watch into the river" and time finally began to move again for me.

This hits me really hard….fuck….. I can relate .I waited until the world reopened after the pandemic. And she never came back. I decided to leave the country and make a new life. From the new country I am typing this on my phone. Still numb. But time doesnt stand still I guess. Cowboy Bebop fucks me up as an adult but as a kid all I cared about was how cool Spike was. Now it is a tragic anime in my eyes as an adult.

I can identify a little bit with Alicia. I broke up with my GF two years ago. The relationship didn't seem healthy anymore and i started to become toxic in front of her. it took me several months of contemplating and reflection in order to know if it would be the right the decision. the day we broke up my ex was devastated, crying and i felt like piece of shit. It seemed like I deceived not onl her but also her parents and friends. It was really difficult for me at the time and I did not know if it was the right decision. I could not really give a response to my ex for which reasons I broke up, cuz there were multiple reasons and mostly I was the problem. The odd thing about the story is that I was a total mess even though I broke up. I did not miss her or anything but we spent so much time together that her absence had a massive impact on my life. I had to work again on m self confidence, reconnect with my people, find meaning in life. During this depressing phase I stumbled across Cowboy bebop clips. I had watched the anime before but never really understood these messages. The funny thing is that I could understand Alicia's point a little bit. I did not cheat or leave without saying anything, but I felt like my former relationship was cramping and wrong. Almost two years later, today, I feel much more better then during the end of our relationship. I reconnected with friends, did sports, focused on Uni and was making memories. Sometimes I ask myself what my Ex is doing but still I don't miss her or anything. I thought I might share this story with you guys, cuz the stories I've been reading were pretty interesting🥰🥰🥰

Yes, you seem have a me-centered view of the relationship, which explains why you left. Sometimes women are the ones who leave, and there are probably a small number of reasons relationships end with one person leaving.
@scarface427552 жыл бұрын
Well i wouldn't say i'm self-centered. I didn't want to feign emotions and lie to a person that i cared about. I put myself in the shoes of my ex and asked myself "well would it be good if a person keeps the relationship going on, only to keep loyal even though the person does not feel the same?". Well when I answered if no, I realized it was the best choice

Well i stated that it was a healthy decision as the relationship became toxic. I dont know in which sense this is egocentric tho as no party would have really benefited from a future relationship. And i dont know where you got the data about how "most" and "few" relationship end...

Cowboy is damn realistic ! Not junk about sentient robots, AI is just automation and that has nothing to do with sentience, sentience requires life in order to exist in a body. Also, another cool thing I like is its realistic technologies ! No laser pistols, just normally bullets cuz they are simply better in reality ! You need a huge installation/generator just for a laser rifle in reality which makes laser worthless and ineffective. And yeah, their weapons and stuff/tech is mostly like what we have just a little more better and certain liberties.
@poneetrahul2 жыл бұрын
Laser pistols are the best because emitters can exist anywhere, and they can be fired from great distances anonymously.
@eu29lex162 жыл бұрын
@@poneetrahul What emitters are you talking about ? Any laser needs a huge damn generator to have any value so it will be like carrying a tank in your arms. And even then it will be weaker than a bullet. For example they made an airplane laser with the best fuel there was and it was still not able to destroy a tank(only a military car) and had only one hit. While you can destroy a tank/car not with a damn passenger plane/size laser but with a cheaper rocket launcher which can be carried with a infantry man. I'm gonna face it, lasers are weak weapons by nature. So yeah, I'm pretty sure there is no effective laser tank/pistol in all of the cosmos.

@@poneetrahul The only efficiency lasers have is in accuracy but that's where it all stops, in rest they have a damn weak firepower for their investment.

The Spanish (Spain) dub is weird, but I like it. They're mostly B tier cheap actors with limited range, yet they're so well casted you don't really notice it because they only have to do the thing they're good at. It could have been a cringefest like Spanish Dragon Ball Z or Spanish Yu Yu Hakusho so Kudos to the director for actually giving a shit and being able to save the project.
