Great Big Story

Great Big Story

5 жыл бұрын

You’re not alone if you do a double-take when you see one of Arinze Stanley’s drawings-his portraits are so lifelike, they are often mistaken for photographs. The Nigerian-born artist has no formal training and works with charcoal and graphite pencils, capturing everyday people and their emotions in extraordinary detail. Arinze uses his art to comment on issues affecting Nigeria as well as the rest of Africa, speaking for people who can’t speak for themselves.

@@itsbackpacker1075 He specializes in photorealism by drawing. If he did animation in this detail, he would have to do it on a computer, and I'm pretty sure that is not where his passion lies. He looks very happy and free with what he is doing right now. Computer generated realism is very different from hand drawn realism. If he did 3D animation, there would be very little drawing, and more sculpting. If he did 2D or traditional animation, he would have to be extremely fast at drawing. Animation takes a very long time alone, and as you can see here, hyperrealism does as well. If he did animation, a big company would likely make him simplify his work for time efficiency. It is possible to make a very detailed animation with hyperrealism, but it would be an immense amount of work and take a very long time. Working for a big company would mean less freedom for what he actually likes to do. What he could have is more recognition, not someone else telling him what do to. He's good enough to be his own boss anyway.

This is why I chose the painting analysis over the practical exercise for my final exam in art class. Analysing a painting and it's composition, colors, historical background and comparing the results with another analysed painting within a few hours? Sounds possible to me. Drawing a completely new version of something with own ideas and explaining why you did so to convince the teacher from your opinion within a few hours? Seems impossible to me. Good art should not be forced or rushed. Every piece needs and independent and own amount of concentration, time and care.

His mind has to break these images down, notice every single detail, map out how these details corilate to one another in order to move on to the next area. THEN he has to also take into consideration the lighting and shading of each damn millimeter.... I couldn't do this. You have to have passion for something to delve into it so deeply

I hate it when people try to take away or down play hyper-realist artists' work by saying, oh who wants to be a human xerox?! There's so much envy in that statement. If hyper-realism is not you preferred style of art fine, but why the need to put another artist's work down to elevate your own? I've always admired hyper-realist artists because it takes an amount of dedication and patience that quite frankly a lot of people don't have. And the ability to reign in that natural inclination to "hurry and get it done" is admirable in and of itself.

look up kim jung gi. the guy can draw stuffs just from his imagination. doing hyper realistic art just takes alot of time but its not that hard if you know how to shade and put the right values. im more impress by an artist who can draw stuffs just from memory. its definitely alot harder than just copying from a photograph.

This beautiful human being has the gift of affecting people's emotions through art, so much that the comment section is actually readable and positive. I suspect the artist is admired more for his amazing skill and technique rather than for any intrinsic aesthetic quality. If it's so realistic that it looks like a photo...then just take a photo! I doubt we could distinguish between the two.

@Rabab A It would! I'm an artist who traces everything for my comics, but I only use it for positioning and perspectives, since I don't have a lot to work with on my small iPad. However, I modify everything, and it saves a lot of time. So at least he modifies some of his drawings to look surreal, instead of always using repetition.
