We came upon it from studying old maps from the mid 1700's and believe this could be the fort George Washington wrote about. We get to detect it!
The artifacts may just confirm it too.

Todd, each time I turn on one of your new videos and hear your introductory music, I know I will be in for a treat. Your theories about the fort location and possibly attack routes are not just good guesses. Your explanations make total sense and if you are given the opportunity to detect this site further, I would certainly cover the open ground between the river edge to the far west where you feel the French and Indian canoes could have unloaded and the advance begun towards the fort. There may be few musket balls and related war relics to find since there wasn't any battle or large skirmish; however, just one confirmed French and Indian War relic find would make any effort worthwhile. The other possibility of advancing site up the ravine from the south could also be a place of interest. The downside may be the rocks that have been tossed into it. It is probable that there were rocks thrown in after and military activity covering and relics and out of reach of your detector. Enjoy these very much and looking forward to future adventures.

Thanks Tom. I honestly feel this spot is the most logical place for the fort. It could be the fort location. People don't realize a fort was not manned 24-7 and only used a few years so artifacts aren't going to be plentiful like a home site. I could be on it here, but there is lots of land yet to check out. Thanks buddy....

Todd, another amazing video with more history then most all people knew about until your video. What an amazing place to have access to. You will find the old fort site I'm sure. An as far as relics an old.finds, you an i both know if it has been detected before they didn't find everything. So I'm sure there are some great finds yet to be uncovered. Great video an congrats on all you guys finds on this outting. Lots of luck on your next adventure. Have an amazing weekend my friend. 😁👍👍

Glad you enjoyed it Richard, and yes, I'm determined to find this place. These farms are large tracts of land and it is easy to spend a day in one small area unless you have an Army of detectors helping. This spot seems to be the most promising.

Being hung up on the old chimney like a magnet (pun intended) certainly handicapped the chances of finding your fort as it was already known that the dwelling continued to be occupied long after the time period you were interested in. Chasing the later period distractions was a good way to get hits, but not so great for finding definitive proof of a fort. You also theorized that the area had been previously searched. You might could use some help the investigation aspect of knowing where to do the prospecting. “Hey Vern, let us build a fort right next to this gulley that has a blind spot. Then the enemy could use the river for rapid transportation and a safe approach, taking us by surprise!”
@AppalachianHistoryDetectives
@AppalachianHistoryDetectives 10 ай бұрын
Maybe you are right but it is an old site on the original farm farm with features and artifacts from that period and we had to check it out to rule it in or out. I still think it is a good candidate as the Fort wasn’t occupied continuously to produce a lot of period artifacts. There are many places yet to hit on the farm that have potential including near the old log church and the Parker Cemetery areas of the farm. Thanks for your comment.

Hey Ken no I haven’t tried that. The landowner wants to keep a bit of mystery and question regarding this site and I don’t blame him. I believe this is it based on written information but unfortunately it is remote and the farmer and I both believe it has been detected many times without his knowledge. I plan on searching other areas fitting the description just to rule it in or out though. Thanks for the comment.

if you find the actual fort you should tell the government where it is and it will be a historic landmark.

The government would probably arrest them for disturbing an archaeology site and “theft” of historical artifacts. The less the “government” is involved, the better.

The last fort we found I reached out to WVU School of Archaeology and they weren't interested. It's not the history they look for really and the State doesn't have the funds for a deep dive into a site like this. Also, the landowners often times don't want the Government in there. All we can do is find and document. I will say all the finds from these forts will and do go into an existing museum....at Fort Edwards.
