When I first played WoW at like age.. 11/12 I would unequip all my items and roleplay being lost in a cave or an island - I would only be allowed to equip items I'd find and for immersion I'd play without my UI on lmao, it was the golden age. I truly appreciate playing games as an adult nerd for understanding the depths of writing and design, but the pure magic of exploring worlds as a kid was.. different

Remembered 2005 when I started with my Tauren warrior in mulgore. At the beginning I saw a guy (shaman) who healed himself and I was wondering why the heck I couldn't heal myself too (didn't realize there have been different classes in wow). Later when I arrived at Bloodhoof Village a guy on a Kodo mount was standing in front of me. He was Lvl 44 and had full armored Scarlet Monastery gear. This was so impressive that I good goosebumbs and hoping I could look like him someday. Damn I was such a noob and didn't know anything. Such good and unforgotable times.

I encountered my first horde when i was level 30, moving from theramore on foot to help a warlock buddy do his succ quest, I think, which required being in the barrens. He was goddamn fierce - red eyes, a huge axe, those spiky shoulders - we passed each other on the road then i stopped to look back after him. He turned, looked, then charged me. It was glorious, then I died. that was a story that stayed with me for what 17 years or so now.

@@iz5808 the population is there on some realms (most are unbalanced like 90% horde / 10% alliance though), but the community definitely isn’t sadly. You can probably find a group of friends or casuals to tag along with, but sadly the Nost feeling is completely absent in all of Classic. No matter where you go you’ll always see store mounts and boosters everywhere. And you’ll be forever poor, unless you do the most efficient gold farms/cheeses. Classic works better as a solo player tbh. There are some big private servers right now, but even their communities don’t come near Nostalrius quality.

I'm a fairly new player myself, just reached lvl 70 on my first ever wow char in tbc classic (I don't count the lvl 55 in retail, that was like a day or two, never touched it since). When I had to get my mount I was short some 5 gold. I /s asked if anyone could hint me to a good spot for farming some money to buy it, when someone traded me 50g without saying anything. I was over the moon. With what I had left I started trading on the ah and really got addicted to trading. Did nothing else for over a month, became a little goblin, turned the 40g into 12k and now I am giving back. Whoever asks for money or help in my presence is sure to get it. 1g? Here take 20. A portal? Of course, keep your gold. I just love the feeling. It has now begun that people start sending me stuff and greetings and updates on their progress. What goes around comes around.

My two biggest memories from all of WoW were in vanilla. The first was meeting this orc warrior at the entrance to Molten Core and thinking he was so cool, I just had to make an orc warrior (I was night elf). So I did, and then when I reached Orgrimmar and went to the bank, there he was. The same warrior, sitting on his epic wolf, in full Wrath Battlegear. That image never left my mind. Meanwhile we're wiping in Razorgore. The second was defeating Ragnaros for the first time, with all our raid dead but one frost mage. Watching that frost bolt make its long trek from the mage to Rag was amazing. The anticipation, the buildup, the magnanimous release with the mage already dead while the bolt flies in. Glorious

Free level 60's killed classic tbc, Not being able to keep our level 60 in classic and moving to TBC server also did. Let me explain how i would've done it. You charge people for boosts, which will be only doable on a brand new server where boosts are available, and let people transfer chars to said servers for money. And all existing servers do not get boosts at all. +add some GMS ffs. god i miss those guys. people who worked from home playing wow and being wholesome most of the time, live monitoring the servers as it should. tldr : keep classic servers how they are, remove purchases from them. add servers where purchases are available. After explaining I was broke af, they gave me enough gold to train and buy a mount. After hitting 60 I eventually saw the person again and we had a chat and I thanked them again. They definitely helped motivate myself to reaching max. I've never played vanilla before, so it was a really nice experience. I remember whenever I saw the gold piece icon as a kid, and I thought it was just the coolest thing ever. I can think back on it and remember the exact feeling. Oh the nostalgia hurts. It literally felt like treasure.

Back in TBC, our main tank would spend ours in msn talking to his "wouldbe" girlfriends. The problem is he would be doing so in the middle of the raid... One particular night, our raid leader scolded him in ventrilo and told him to get the fuck out of msn chat and focus... And he said "I am not using msn" just to right then be betrayed by the tududu! H A H A H A. I think the entire guild laughed non stop for the rest of that SSC run!

I have a field marshal paladin. To this day, that is the only title I use on him. Old school wow players know how much it means to us.

I managed Field Marshal as well ... but I just couldn't get R14. It was such an uphill battle on my server, and there was the fucking decay to fight against.

Same; even when acquiring the top raid title of the day, like Hand of A’dal, I’d wear that for like a week, then back to the rank 13 title

My first memory of vanilla wow was in tarren mill a shaman named neato with warlord gear one shooting alliance with chain lightning, he was our savior in those dark times w/o battlegrounds, then my second on another server my bro and i were the most hated duo pally/war on the server, i remember getting alot of hate mail from lvl 1 players and whispers for ganking their main, and after that i love when ppl talk crap about me bc they're pissed af and makes me laught hahaha

The grind was nerfed, the true nerds were the ones that did rank 14 in vanilla (like my brother), damn this was a investment.

Now its even worse with all the gold buying and GDKPs. Feelsbadman. Imagine if Blizzard nerfed boosting XP to oblivion in month 1 of Classic, actually banned bots quickly and publicly banned gold buyers. Imagine the state of Classic in that world...

Quickly? Or at all. Itd surprise me if 2022 Blizzard did anything but calculate and optimize how the bots can make them money on the side

I used to be a rank 14 in vanilla. The amount of people that would come up to you, inspect you, and do emotes was insane. It was like being an ingame celebrity. The 2020 player is 100% right though, I had absolutely no life.
