The small drums called Tifa, traditional musical instrument from Papua island. And majority race of Papuans are Melanesians, same group of people with Moluccans (Molukken in Dutch or Maluku in Indonesia), Flores, and Timor. So yes physically speaking many people outside Indonesia, especially in Europe, are often mistakenly identify them as Africans eventough they were basically Indonesians.

In Indonesia I don't think we have issues with (or even the concept of) cultural appropriation for outsiders who want to dress the way we do. As a Dutch you should research more about Indonesia.. In 1960s Dutch still considered Papua province as its colony. And then Indonesia fought for it with tears and blood. We lost many lives of our soldiers fought for Papua back to our country

Indonesia has many culture diversity. It is not african culture. People from eastern Indonesia have different culture than the west. I am from eastern Indonesia. My culture is totally different than Bali, Java, sumatra, Borneo or another Island. I also live in NL..in Nederland people always make mistake about my face, my accent and my culture. Because I am from NTT. We are melanesian just like Papua. So please learn more about Indonesia, because we were colonized by Dutch and shameless they don't teach at school about this. Dank je wel.

eh did i just say the O word that it was deleted or i forgot to hit the send button 😅 Anyway, u wonder abt anyone dressing in papuan tribal costume will mean something racist. i get it why u wonder like that cos in NL u hv that issue with white ppl posing black piet, right. i've been in NL so i know 😉 the difference is the context. in the case of black piet, it become a discrimination issue becos black piet is the helper so it would mean as if a certain race is being put in a lesser position. imagine if black piet was a black king who collaborate with santa to hand out presents, i bet it will create different sentiment 😊 in the case of other ethnicity in indo wearing papuan tribe, as Alfy does, there is no objection because we never put papuan in a lesser position in any setting. it even express respect to the culture if someone from other ethnicity wear another's costume, and it create bond. just like when u hear a foreigner try to talk dutch then u respect that person cos he try to understand ur language. thats my 2 cents
