Now THIS one looks fun to me. It looks extremely difficult, but you made it seem doable for a novice quilter like me. I've sewn for over 50 years now, but haven't delved into quilting until I found your channel. I've been binge watching for weeks now. Once a window of time opens up, I'll begin with this one. Donna, you really are an excellent teacher 🙌 And also...a "Well done" , kudos to everyone who makes your tutorials possible! I admire how you've made your business a whole family affair.

Great video today. Great shots of the shop. Great shots of the jelly roll (it will really give people an idea of what they'll be getting when they order, except for the lights that are going for the other project.) I loved the red accent pinwheels. And I loved how you incorporated chain piecing, first by demonstrating and then by chain piecing, fantastic. It will give the newbies an idea of how to get through the project easier. ❤🌅🌵

What I really appreciate is the filming of your tutorials. Whoever your film person is deserves a great deal of credit because the way it is filmed coordinates so well with what you are demonstrating. The close up techniques and then the panning out of the shot is so professional. Most viewers take the filming for granted but someone who sees the “big picture” and who edits the final product is invaluable to the quality of your teaching videos. Great work! And I can’t sign off without saying how much I have learned from you and your own eye for colour and technique. I think it’s safe to assume that I am a subscriber 🇨🇦😊

DONNA STRIKES AGAIN. I wish I had half your decisiveness in choosing border fabrics/accents/quilt thread colors!!!! The fabric in this one is gorgeous and LOVE the pattern. Thanks again.
@grandmaj.
@grandmaj. 5 жыл бұрын
If I was surrounded by all that wonderful fabric I would never be able to decide what to use, I would probably just close my eyes and pick randomly, lol. I've been sewing since I was about 6 years old, my mom would only let me use the treadle machine for fear that I would sew my fingers with her electric singer. I've been doing quilts for many years and I find I still learn things from all you talented quilters on KZfaq, so many new notions these days, my daughter in law bought me the Ruby Beholder a few years ago, what a trick that little jewel is! Thanks for all your superb videos Donna and Matt, we're never too old to learn.
@talllala
@talllala 5 жыл бұрын
Ruby Beholder? What is that? Lol I watch all these videos and I'm still clueless sometimes.
@grandmaj.
@grandmaj. 5 жыл бұрын
@@talllala It's a piece of ruby colored plastic about 2"X 6", look at the fabric through it and it shows the color value of the fabric. If your making something like a log cabin quilt where you want lights and darks, sometimes what looks like a dark print actually shows up as a medium when the quilt is finished making it blend in with the lighter fabric, the ruby beholder lets you see light, medium, and dark values of fabric.I probably didn't explain that very well. I won't post a link since people say it gives channels a bad strike or something, so just do a google search it will show how to use it. :)
@talllala
@talllala 5 жыл бұрын
@@grandmaj. No you explained it well. It sounds like a veerrryy useful tool. I find getting colour values matched tricky, despite all the videos I've watched on the subject. I even have a colour wheel, but still I struggle, so I need all the help I can get! Last quilt I made had a mishmash of colours with different values. It worked. Just. I think because it had lots of stars so I got away with it. So I'm definitely going to get this tool but I just checked internet and it appears we don't have it in any uk shops so I'll have to get it from America😩. We really trail behind the USA with regards to quilting supplies here! Thanks for your detailed reply!
@newbeequilter
@newbeequilter 5 жыл бұрын
@@talllala - Yes, Grandma did a nice explanation, so I also have a suggestion for you. Before you spend a lot of money for the glasses and especially the shipping from UK to US, you might want to find some red colored plastic "sheets" at an office supply store or a craft/sewing supply store. Years ago, in the school section, one could buy a flimsy school folder for term papers that would also do the trick. The red plastic works for most colors, but to see the differences among red fabrics, you might also want to buy some green plastic sheets as they can further define the red values. Bring some of your fabric samples to the store of your choice to audition the red or green plastic sheet(s) you may find.
@talllala
@talllala 5 жыл бұрын
@@newbeequilter You are a genius!🙌 And yes, avoiding the shipping fees is a bonus! You just saved me some cash (So I can spend more on fabric Lol!!)

The one tiny thing missing in today's video was the opportunity to get viewers thinking about their next project by mentioning bonus triangles. You mentioned the light strips being extra and it seemed like there were extra windmill parts since you used extra strips that this would certainly make a bonus quilt. But I can certainly see why you'd not mention them and choose to stay on topic. Thanks for mentioning the part about using the red options in the boarder, really made my day! 💜🌞🌵

I just love your tutorials. My adult daughter wanted to learn how to sew so she came over yesterday, we began her instructions on my machine, which is the same as yours - love it! She got to leave with a jelly roll throw pillow that she made (I had extra strips for her to play with) I directed her to your video tutorials to get her all excited. We watched your jelly roll drag race and she is thinking that is the one she wants to start with. Wish us luck!!
