The Lagos State Government had recently written and given the Landmark Group CEO seven-day notice of demolishing the section of the Beach Resort to make way for the coastal highway.
The Lagos State Government listed parts of the property that will be demolished to make way for the road to include the Beach Resort, Kids and Bay Arena, Members Area, and Lagos Beach Club.
The Lagos State Government said the areas where the facilities are located fall within the Right of Way of the proposed Coastal Highway project by 50 metres.
But amidst concerns and controversies over the planned demolition, we were joined by Landmark Group CEO, Mr. Paul Onwuanibe to share updates on the next move.

I came to Nigeria with my family last year and we went to Landmark Beach. My children were pleasantly surprised at the quality , facilities and ambience. The pictures taken looked as if we were in any other exotic holiday destination in the world. We had an awesome time and my kids want to return to Nigeria annually if possible. I will like to appeal to the Nigerian Government on behalf of landmark to reconsider the demolition as it is an asset that adds value to the country as a whole.

I've been suggesting Landmark beach to a diasporan Lady who brought her kids to Lagos a few years ago to a different beach and they absolutely hated it. @@blessingsgalore9994 don't get me wrong. I hv also visited landmark and it's great experience to have such a place in Nigeria. What hmmm 🤔 refers to is the appeal to Nigerian government. They don't understand civil appeal. I believe Landmark's board of management and fellow investors will be able to work with the government to find a win win situation. However, the best scenario will still leave scars that serve as a warning to FDIs to be very careful about any investment in Nigeria. In reality, avoid Nigeria at all cost except low hanging fruits

@@aframaco9491 Don't say that about the Nigerian government. They always choose the most stupid course of action and plough through with it regardless of the consequences. I remember when I was in law school in 2007, I was debating that the government will never reverse the sale of two refineries to Dangote and Otedola's Bluestar consortium because the sale made absolute sense. I recall a colleague called Bala who kept repeating to me that the deal was not a done deal, that it will be reversed and truly it was reversed. 18 years later, Nigeria has wasted billions of dollars on the refineries even as they produce nothing. In addition, Nigeria has wasted hundreds of billions of its scarce dollars importing petrol after Bluestar had promised that if allowed to keep the two refineries they would produce all the petrol Nigeria requires within one year. Even if they didn't do it in one year, they would have achieved it in 2,3,4 or 5 years if government set the target as a term of the sale. They would have saved Nigeria an absolute fortune. Yet, Nigeria continues to hold on to these refineries. Destroying landmark estate will be a very small thing for the Nigerian government to do. They have done worse and are still doing worse

Nyma thought she ate with the question of trying to "blackmail" the government, when she's obviously asking from an uninformed perspective. Obviously the government did a re-alignment which is now encroaching into Landmark's space. How is that the business fault? She needs to tender a public apology to Mr. Paul for her wrong choice of words.

Whatever decision we make would send a Doppler effect to the in coming investors.

Demolishing that investment would mean, termination of jobs, reduction of lagos taxes and discouragement of future investors. There are some companies/establishments in most developed nations, that have lasted over 500years, so, why would lagos government be destroying properties, that have her authorization! Let the government change her style of operation and encourage people and businesses to exist. One of the primary functions of a government, is the security of lives and properties.

How can you destroy a business that is caring for so many people and their families, jobs that the state can’t even create they want to destroy it. It's extremely easy to bypass this resort if there is a honest intention to build a coastal road. But I know they not finna build no coastal road. For me, I think Nigeria doesn't need a coastal road at all. We need deep sea ports along the eastern and western coast line as well as rail lines running all the way to the north. This coastal road is extremely limited in the terms of the value it can bring to the country's development compared to deep sea ports and rail both of which can be built by private investors at no cost to the government. I know the project will never be completed, but even if it is completed, what will Nigeria gain if I can drive my car from Lagos to Calabar along the coast? Is it not the same coast that is constantly being eroded? Right now, I can drive from Lagos to Calabar so what's special about a coastal road? They just want to grab this man's land because of their greed and Nyma the bigot is fully in support

There is something known as cost-benefit analysis. A cost-benefit analysis is significant in rerouting a road construction project as it helps decision-makers evaluate alternative routes in a comprehensive and systematic manner, taking into account economic, environmental, social, and long-term planning considerations. This ensures that decisions are made in the best interests of society as a whole. In this case the government should reroute the Lagos-Calabar Highway away from Landmark to minimise negative impacts on citizens and businesses. Simple. Landmark remaining a viable business during and after the construction of the highway will actually generate more money for Lagos State Government in the long-term as more tourists will be attracted to the resort.
Increíble final 😱
