It's not even fair to say "Roger Waters wrote the lyrics" For the majority of Pink Floyd albums, he wasn't writing their lyrics. He only wrote "most of the lyrics" on 5 Pink Floyd albums out of a total of 15 studio albums. On 2/3rds of the albums he wasn't the main lyric contributor.

Pretty sure Waters wrote all the lyrics on 5 albums and is the main lyricist on... lets see 1...2... 3... 4... 5! others (OBC, More, Ummagumma, Meddle, SOS) So that would be the majority of albums and songs with lyrics at that. Gilmour is the main lyricist on what? Momentary Lapse maybe? (though he got help) On Division Bell it was likely his wife... Syd is the main lyricist on Piper... On Atom Heart Mother Rick Roger & David each write one.... It's not even close.

His voice is awful sounding. Roger Waters never would have gone anywhere in life without Syd Barrett, David Gilmour, and Rick Wright. He rode their coattails.

Roger Waters ran out of good song lyrics many years before he quit Pink Floyd. He's been completely washed up since 1979. He didn't leave Pink Floyd until 1985. They got back on track as a band after he quit.

He was clearly the main lyricist for DSOTM, Wish You Were Here, Animals, The Wall, The Final Cut (which is what MOST people know Pink Floyd for) and then the dominant lyricist for More, Meddle, and Obscured by Clouds and likely had most contribution on Atom Heart Mother and Ummagumma. He clearly DIDN'T write most or any of the lyrics on Piper at the Gates of Dawn, Momentary Lapse of Reason and Division Bell. Many of their post Syd Barrett/pre Dark Side albums were heavily instrumental (e.g., Saucerful of Secrets, Ummagumma, More, etc.) and 2 of them are film soundtracks so....Put differently - name your top 10 Pink Floyd songs and ask "who wrote the lyrics". I'm not a big fan of Roger Waters; but the facts are what they are.

@@chacob3380 On all of the earlier albums, Roger usually would just sing one song. It used to be that all the band members would write a song for the albums. For example, Childhood's End, Fat Old Sun, and The Narrow Way were the best songs on those three Pink Floyd albums, and those were the songs written by David Gilmour. I don't think Roger Waters even plays on any of those tracks.

@@thedave5748 I think Waters is usually right on foreign policy issues (or at least much better than our media / governments in the west), but on Ukraine-Russia I actually think he's trying to be in the middle way too much by arguing fault on both sides, though it's still a much better position to hold than attributing all the blame to Russia. I actually think Russia is much more in the right, myself as Lugansk & Donetsk should have a right to self defense and by extension a right to get help from the Russians to defend themselves against the proxy army of NATO in Ukraine.
