This is part 2 of my dad's surprise trip to Vietnam! Today we got out of the city of Hanoi and took a luxury cruise through the gorgeous Ha Long Bay. Next we traveled to the beautiful countryside and stayed in a bamboo hut in the middle of a rice field surrounded by mountains. We rented motorbikes for the day and explored the untouched beauty of the area and witnessed local life. This was an unforgettable trip that we never wanted to end!

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” & finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this KZfaq channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling! So we extended our 1 year trip to now FOUR years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before 2020! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)

Honestly my dad and I do trips together too, we hiked through Spain. And as much as we might argue, bicker and sometimes be cranky with each other. I love travelling with him and wouldn’t ask for a better travel companion

Almost at the end, Your dad brought me to tears as he told his thoughts on his Vietnam visit. I am around your dad’s age and remember news footage of The Vietnam War, so my thoughts and ideas are much like his before thoughts...jungle and maybe a war torn country. What a journey and wonderful vlog! Your dad has been my favorite guest of your’s so far. (Enough so that I will buy the luggage sponsoring his visit!)

Every time your dad talks about what this has meant to him it makes me tear up, and his thoughts near the end made me full out cry. There’s something about people getting to fulfill a lifelong dream and seeing how it impacts them that gets me emotional, whether I know the person or not. Your dad was a great addition to the vlogs!

I went through a similar experience with my dad. I was studying abroad in Seoul and my father came to visit me for an entire week. My dad said that was one of his most favorite trips. We had so many memories in that one week. And now it’s been almost a month since he passed and I’m grateful for all the trips I had with him. ❤️

Those are happy loving tears... reminds me of my father who passed away a few years and how much fun I had with him. I am vietnamese myself and watching your dad express his love for Vietnam was a very special moment for me. Now that I am in the US and work in hospital, I had the chance to talk to some veterans and described to them what a beautiful country Vietnam has transformed into now. They were all stoked and excited and wanted to go back to the country which they always thought was still war-torn and everything was still under-developed. Thank you for bringing your dad to Vietnam and letting him immerse in our culture! this is by far my favorite vblog so far!

THIS VLOG REMINDS ME SOOOO MUCH OF RAYA & THE LAST DRAGONS!!!😍😍😍 The hat, the boat, those little islands surounded by the beautiful sea..😍😍😍 And the Dragon statue!! (I screamed : "Sukiiiiiiii!!!!" when I saw the dragon statue..🤣) I know #rayaandthelastdragon get their ideas from many asian countries.. @Tuan Thai Vietnam can be gorgeous, and I never knew it until Kara and Nate showed it to me. It really is sad that people don't respect the environment. I know some places are worse than others, but truly it's a global problem. I pray that the new generation of children can somehow learn so they can do better than the ones before them.

Climbing all those steps reminds me of the incline in Colorado Springs. The only difference, the incline was 2700 steps and your view was FAR better. We didn't realize what kind of climb we were getting ourselves into until we got there but even our two kids completed it with a lot of encouragement! There were parts that were 67% incline.

fantastic looks amazing was great fun watchuing your dadsdream come true too and his enjoyment.# the drones shots are amazing you get a great view of where you walked love the drone shots. the luggagsa looks great had look at it online. super expensive but if you travel a lot it looks robust love that its got wheels.

When your dad said out of all the destinations he wanted to go to VN as a Vietnamese I was very touched. Thks for his interest in this country:) Lots of ppl only think abt VN with wars but they don't know not only VN has transformed alot after the wars but also there are unique, beautiful, delicious, fun and exciting things, affectionate ppl here that will give them great experiences. Hope more ppl will come to VN and explore:)VN will continue to progress for the better in the future:)

@Tuan Thai its true many Vietnamese are still not aware of the trashing matter but this trash in Halong Bay is not necessarily from Vietnamese tourists. Actually most of the trash comes from Chinese tourists. I don't know if u live in VN but ten years ago the road trash in VN was much worse, so there is improvement but takes time.

I love how Dad absorbed the Tennessee accent, even though he lived in Michigan until he was 22. You'd never know he's not from Middle Tennessee. Perfect example of somebody becoming local even when they're not from the area. I've not been able to do that very well, even though I moved to Tennessee from Texas when I was 19 and have been here over three decades. I have a little Tennessee to me, but am still very Texas, and my accent is about as neutral as you get in the South. Don't get me wrong. I can drop into an East Tennessee or Appalachian accent whenever I need to, but unless I'm thinking about it I sound like I'm from Ohio.

It must have felt amazing to be able to do this for your Dad! My Dad passed 3 years ago and watching you experience this trip with your Dad made me emotional in a good way. There is nothing better than having adult experiences with your parents, you get to see them as people and not just your Dad or mom. I absolutely loved this series with your Dad, my favorite so far!

Watching you with your dad Kara was very touching! So glad you got to do this with him! My dad planed a vacation with us but he passed away suddenly before we could do it. He was 61, so watching you buy your dad goodbye made me cry! Even though it's been 15 yrs things like this make me miss him even more! Love watching the 2 of you!

Your Dad is so cute! I loved these last two videos. I'm 55 and my Dad will be 80 this month :-). He and my Mom are travelling right now (California).

It’s hard to overstate how much the drone footage added to this vlog. After the 500 steps of the climb, to then soar up into the sky was simply great filmmaking! Kudos.

a trip with dad is priceless... there is no price you wouldnt pay, no distance that is too far.... it was a great decision to have dad with you and thanks to Away for setting it up..... that why a celebration for 100 countries in your hometown is so special...and a great choice; celebrate with family, friends from home and new friends from around the world.
