Laura and Dan , you have each other and you share the same dreams, that's a winning combination. As jean has suggested patreon members might help with some financial problems you come across, don't be too proud to accept help. Most of all don't let any situation get between you both, give each other a huge in the morning and every night, stay strong.

You two are such a lovely couple and I have enjoyed everything that you have done with your land. I really hope that everything works out for you, and you can become residents of Portugal and continue to grow with your land and start a family like you want to do. You are in my prayers and hope that God blesses you with your dreams. Good luck to you. Oh, by the way Frankie Off Grid went through the same problems, maybe they will be able to give you some direction as to what they did. They are in central Portugal and have a homestead as well.

Laura and Dan, don't give up! You're doing a great job. You need to talk to some of the other utubers in Portugal, many have had the same problems and likely can give you some advice. PipsCast are dealing with the exact same issue right now. And others had different issues a few years back as they started out. So find others for advice and friendly support. Community is very important, especially when your starting out. Take a really good look at all your amazing accomplishments, and lean on each other, as each of you has different strengths. You should be very proud of what you've accomplished. 💕

Don’t give up. I moved to Germany at the age of 18 in 1982, I’ve been through good times & I’ve been through Hell. I’ve been homeless with nothing but the clothes on my body,I’ve also had my own Firm with workers. I’ve built a house & now after 40 + years & getting German citizenship there are always going to be hard times but also good times. It’s all a big learning process, so stay strong; you’ve got the right attitude.

I know what you mean dan and Laura, we are the same, we are in Australia and we have a tiny bit of savings and just want a bit of land to farm and call home, but the prices and this system that these money hungry crooks created make it so hard, what I say to them, is get out our way and let us just live, but the problem is,it's all about money and control. I say to you guys, keep fighting the good fight, keep your chins up and God will make it happen, thanks so much for sharing your lives with us, I love watching the funny stuff, and just watching people grow from nothing in this corrupt system, thanks guys from Australia, and God bless.

Hi, Laura and Dan. Hard work done by you both. So well done again. Keep your chin up, and don't let owt bring you down. You have each other, you have your land, and have your dreams. That's the things to always remember. You are both young, so you have more time to get things through red tape. Perseverance and to a degree patience. At the beginning of your homestead journey, i suggested getting patron and more sponsors. That will help you more fiacially. Still something to consider, i think. Doyou, sleep in your yurt now or still fully living and sleeping in your van. I was just wondering how comfortable you are and whether you sleep well. I know from experience how that affects mental health. All i can say to try to help you keep positive, is just visualize the sunsets and the sunrises of the yrs to come. Visualise the land with your crops and animals. Visualize you barn as your home with you little young ones playing. Then stick out your chin in determination and learn what you need to, and start the things you are able to do to get those dreams and visulations a reality x

That's so sweet, thanks Mary 💖 We haven't been sleeping in the bell tent as it's been very cold at nights but the van is very comfortable so we're sleeping fine. It's more so been the stress of everything that has been getting on top of us, but like you say we're just going to keep positive and keep moving forward 💖

What you need more than a tractor is a good sized Rototiller to dig up your garden area, you might have to take the rop off first then start working it down into the soil at least 2' then rake it out, make walkways to the trees and grapes, take some of the Garden Areas. You do not want to block access off to these areas.

Good luck to you both. The bueurocrasy here in Portugal is a nightmare, made worse by brexit. I'm lucky that I came here to live just over 15 years ago, but I know how hard it is now. Keep pushing forward, you are doing a great job and I wish I had your youth. Never give up your dream.

Those channel drains you put in the driveway are meant as an intercept drain to draw water off of a surface. Typically, they are used in something like a concrete driveway that slopes down to a house. Water runs down the concrete and is intercepted by the channel drain before it runs into the house. They do not work very well in a loose surface material like gravel or dirt since the material will migrate into the channel drain through the grate. This will be accelerated since you are driving across it; the tires will pick up material and deposit it in the drain every time you drive over it. Since the drain itself is not sloped significantly, the material will tend to stay in the drain and quickly clog it, preventing the ditch water from moving through it. The water will back up on the upstream side, saturate the driveway there, and make a soft spot. I know this because when I was younger, I installed these in a gravel patio and went back a year later as they were no longer draining; the channel was full to the top with gravel fines that had migrated in. A better solution would be to use a culvert, since the purpose is not to capture water on the surface of the driveway, but to allow water moving down the ditch to pass under the surface of the driveway. Since it is a small ditch, you could get away with a small (4 inch) rigid or corrugated pipe as a culvert. It looks to me like there is not enough slope in the ditch as it is now to let this be a long-term solution, but you could make it work for a few years until you have enough time to do a proper culvert, which would probably require dropping the level of the ditch on the downstream side of the driveway.

Laura and Dan, I know how you feel and it is hard but hang in there, just go day to day and I hope that soon you get the news you want to hear that you can stay. Take care and you are both doing a fantastic job on the land . I know it is hard to want to go ahead and plan what you want to do with the property and I say go for it because what ever you do will enhance it and make it in a better condition, so do not give up and I do wish you the very best with all my heart. By the way love your videos. Greetings from the UK.

Great video and job on the driveway and digging out the doorway aswell. Can really appreciate how frustrating and unsettling it must be with the residency situation, I think you're doing the right thing by doing what you can, but keeping in mind all possible eventualities. I'm sure things will work out regardless, you guys will be fine whatever happens, even if you end up homesteading elsewhere, you are giving it your best shot and that's all you can do! Have a good week and don't over work yourselves/stress yourself out too much.. 👍☯️
