At 9:30, I'm guessing the window might be a required escape option required by fire code . In multi-unit buildings it's worth thinking about your options for escape in case of a fire, especially in places that don't have smart fire and building codes. A friend told me about a high-rise condo fire she was in in India and the smoke and flames blocked access to the stairs but they managed to climb down to the lower unit from the balcony and get out. When was living on the third floor of an apartment in the U.S. where's it's common for people to smoke in bed and be drunk, high or be cooking drugs, I bought an escape ladder I could drop out my bedroom window or off the balcony.

Very useful insights Olga and much appreciated! Where else can you live on the beach for that price, so perhaps the some of the downsides might be worth overlooking in the short term. Friends who have lived in Vietnam said they encountered landlord and other scams that along with other issues led them to lean more towards Thaland or Philippines over Vietnam, but maybe that was their luck as a lot of people seem to have a good experience. Also, hearing about internet options and your experience would be helpful. Thanks again!

Thanks, Jack! Yeah, in Thailand it seems to be easier overall, but more expensive these days, lower price/quality ratio. In the Philippines it also seemed more expensive for good quality apartments in a safe neighborhoods. With content here on KZfaq we are leaning towards creating more content for tourists to expand the audience. And move content for expats to Patreon, if enough people will be interested. As it seems expat community is just not big enough to have good views here on KZfaq.

Windows are for light, ventilation, views, and fire escape. If it opens to the hallway then you know which one it's for

I really love your guys channel and I subscribed. We're considering Nha Trang and Da Nang next year if they extend their visas. With that said, how would you compare the costs of those two cities in terms of accommodation costs, food selection and walkability? I can't wait to see more videos from you two!

Hi, Steve, thanks for the support! We hope the visas will be extended too. Da Nang and Nha Trang are quite similar with costs in our experience. We did a 35-min Livestream last month comparing life in the two cities, it is now available on Patreon www.patreon.com/olgapro Hope it will help

The shower I can tell you is most like a space saver, A lot of Thai places are the same way and I'm also not a fan. The first thing I I look for when booking a Hotel or Airbnb is how the shower is set up, is there a separation between the the shower and the rest of the bathroom. I hate getting up in the middle of the night to go and the floor is still wet. The window to the corridor makes me think that it maybe just an fire escape option and it's only a guess, I've been to Vietnam but never experienced that. I guess we will see next month when we get to NHa Trang.

Great video Olga. This was extremely helpful in understanding the architectural design of modern apartment buildings in Vietnam. I agree with you that the window with the best view should always be in the living area where we spend most of our awake hours. What a disappointment to have the best view in the bedroom where we just go in to sleep and generally jump out of bed and out of the bedroom to start our day and never come back into with the exception of changing our clothes or to go to sleep. I’m glad you’ve opened our eyes to this challenge when searching for rentals in Vietnam. BTW how do you cope with the language barrier?

Great video, and I have watched some of your other videos about renting in Nha Trang. We are going to Nha Trang for a month in March. First 4 days we will stay in a 4* hotel and treat ourselves. After that was either going to stay in cheap 3* hotels or look at some short term apartment rental, but I think you videos put me off the hassles of an apartment rental. We will probably just use cheap hotels instead. If we were going to stay longer maybe an apartment rental might be worth the extra hassle. I suppose the benefit of the rental is more space, somewhere to cook and a machine to do laundry.

Windows are safety building regulations for fire code. You can’t count it as bedroom unless it gas a window you can escape frm.

I showed the apartments that we were checking out for ourselves and we didn’t have the intention to rent villas long-term. But if you’re interested to see the more upscale options to rent in Vietnam, I can do that for you, you can message me here olgapronkina.com/work-services/

Yes agree, some of those things like window to hallway or washer in bedroom are annoying lol. Hard to choose 😅lol. You ended up with a great choice 👏 I’ve seen some super nice + affordable beach options also in da nang. Curious, What made you choose nha trang over da nang?

Hi Olga, I wish you guys made a video discussing whether you like Turkey (Antalya) better or Thailand (Phuket, Koh Samui, Pattaya) to live specially for Monsoon season in Thailand. We are in Thailand right now and considering Antalya because of your videos in summer but would be nice to get your take on it :)

Good news: Extending tourist visas from one month to three months was discussed at a Cabinet meeting on Monday under the chair of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. During a lawmaking session in Hanoi on Monday, March 27, 2023, most cabinet members agreed with the proposal to: 1. Raise the validity of e-visas to 90 days (from the current 30 days) with single and multiple entries applicable 2.Grant e-visas to citizens of all countries and territories (with the list decided by the Government) 3. Prolong visa-free stay from 15 days to 45 days for tourists from countries that Viet Nam currently unilaterally waives visas. These countries are Belarus, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Russia, France, Finland, Spain, Sweden, Italy, the UK, Japan and South Korea. The proposal will be submitted to the National Assembly for inclusion in the 2023 Law and Ordinance Development Programme. The National Assembly will convene plenary session next meeting in May to consider the Government's proposals.

I used to live in Bangkok and overall my opinion apartments there are more expensive. Some of them are nicer, but especially the cheaper ones are not. Also the prices in the video are for monthly rent. In Bangkok it’s harder to find something that is not rented with a 1-year contract

Communal living with corridors (apartment units along a corridor), the bedrooms will have windows facing the corridor. That's public housing for locals in Singapore as well. So when people walk by, there's noise and people looking inside. //From the poor and strange layout of the Vietnam apartments, it seems the Vietnamese are not very smart or logical people.
