I am in Toronto @ The Bluffs area. We had Orioles arrive almost three weeks ago. I love their call and the Rose-Breasted Grosbeaks stopped by for a weekend as well. These are Neo-tropic birds that fly a long way. I put out cut oranges and Welch’s grape jelly. They are at it most of the day. I grease the bird feeder pole with Vaseline to keep the squirrels away. It works and it does not harm them, but they hate it and it is very effective. I also put out a nesting bell and fill it with soft material items for them to build their nests. They usually stay for the month of June. I hope they do again this year. I just love to see their bright orange colours and to hear their pretty songs. I love Baltimore Orioles! 🧡🖤🧡

This year, in Eastern CT., I have had a pair. Seen and heard them years before, but never at my feeders. It's been incredibly cold here, with snow and below freezing temps at night. Today was the first spring- like day! The Orioles really enjoyed the suet cakes, and oranges I cut in half and put on branches for them to snack on. Hope they stick around for a while.

In the Detroit area - last year they showed up May 1st. This year was May 2nd. Still here May 17th but not singing like the first two weeks. Still eating grape jelly and nectar but I only know they are at the feeder if I hear them chattering. I use oriole feeders and turned a Home Depot orange bucket upside down - that seems like a big target for them.

I reside in Northeast Wisconsin on the door peninsula. We are about 3/4 of a mile inland from Lake Michigan so it’s a definite flyway for migrating birds of many types. This is my first year as I’ve been feeding birds for most of my life that I have had Orioles (they have so many beautiful different songs and they’re loud). There is a very dark blue bird that has appeared only ones that I’ve never seen before perhaps it’s the male? Two other birds that I can’t figure out have arrived as well. This is a great site and I hope to continue learning from what you put up here with my children to see especially since most of us have to stay at home. What a great time to learn! Stay safe.

Wow, funny coincidence: I live in Buffalo (Tonawanda) and I get the usual bluejays, cardinals, woodpeckers, etc. at my feeders. Lived at this house for 26 years. 3 days ago I looked out my window and saw a Baltimore Oriole at my suet feeder (getting harrassed by those damn starlings). First time I've ever seen one at my feeders. I cut a couple of tangerines in half and put them on my patio table. I've seen just the one bird, but it's been at my tangerines a handful of times now!!

I've watched one female, hope to see more. I will order some mealworms to add to the variety for food when they need the protein They are eating the oranges, grape jelly, and occasionally the suet in another feeder. They have also come to our window to get a drink from the hummingbird feeders. They are a sight to behold, and a thrill to watch.

What a fun thing to do while you’re stuck at home for over three months. I appreciate feedback from everyone around the country and help me track as I’m a big birdie. The Orioles in door County the peninsula Wisconsin this is the first time in 18 years I’ve ever seen them. I have five or six of them along with bluebirds Blue Jays three types of woodpeckers and a piloted and the usual J Kos or Jochums I forget how to pronounce her name and Robbins and what not. The bright colored birds are eating the oranges and the grape jelly for theFirst time. It’s so beautiful it’s like I live in Chicago O’Hare airport on the runway even the hummingbirds are going crazy. Ants are easy to deal with. There is a product called an ant moat. You fill it with water and hang your feeder from it and the ants wont cross the water. For bees often it's not an issue unless there is a really dry summer and in August all the natural clover and flowers have burned off.

They are probably there through Aug/Sep but the feeding frenzy is the first month after arrival. If you have a lot around you they will still come just not as much.

Jared, depending on were you live, it might be a slow time until July. When orioles first get back they are veracious eaters an hit the feeders hard.. In June they are nesting and need bugs for their babies, so it slows down at the feeders. After the babies fledge, they come back to the feeders before migration. It is possible if you live in the city and not near any good oriole habit (tree lines along creeks, rivers & lakes) that it might take you a couple summers to attract them.

@ Jberg44: The way I was able to attract orioles to my yard was I put out a fountain bird bath. They can hear the moving water and it attracts them. It also attracted many other birds to my yard that I have never seen before such as tanagers, warblers and grosbeaks. Mine is a raised pedestal bird bath with a resin Saint Bernard dog that has his paws up on the pedestal. In the middle of the bath dish the is a round orb where the water comes out. It has an electric pump. They sell them through www.DesignToscano.com

If you have your feeder on a pole you can buy a baffle that defeats animal intrusions or you can manufacture one out of sheet metal.

I have my feeder on a metal pole and use a small electric fence unit. One electrode to the poll one to the feeder. The birds cannot touch both so no danger for them, but the squirrels really jump when they get a shock. They usually try twice then give up.

Maybe some one here can ‘Help me’ Identify a Bird here In Kansas (just South of Wichita); It’s a Shiny Shimmering Black = LIKE OIL on Water, with a nearly “NEON Orange” Breast plumage (No .. It’s NOT a “RED-Breasted” Blackbird) It’s the … “Orangest Orange” … I’ve EVER Seen; This Bird IS Surreal in It’s appearance, a Magnificent Sight; It’s a Medium (Larger than a Cardinal) Size Bird, no Other Markings Just It’s incredibly brilliant DEEP BRIGHT Orange Breast Plumage. This is the 4th year I seen IT and I’ve lived in This Home for 22 years now and I ONLY See Just (This) ONE! ... I’ve Tried “GOOGLING” IT; … Going to the Library To Research Audubon Listing of Birds ingenious to the State of Kansas; … I CAN’T Find THIS Bird Anywhere except for IN My YARD; … on Rare Occasions (Once or twice a Month; till about September, Then It’s GONE until The Next SPRING); ... ANY and ALL Help would be “GREATLY Appreciated” PS. I also have a SINGLE ‘Yellow-breasted (Baltimore) Oriole’; and oddly enough, their appearance and length of seasonal stay seem to coincide with each other. (This "Orange Breasted Bird" Is NOT an Oriole; In a "side-by-side comparison" they are absolutely "NOTHING Alike"!)

@@errykflows8683 I know but the description sounds like the pattern of a red breasted blackbird. What can happen is red can be in the spectrum of yellow to orange to red. The Yellow and orange are rare but as an example we get house finch here that are orange not red. They are rare. Just a thought based on your description. If you ever do get a picture, someone will be able to identify it though.

@@wildbirdhouse i understand what you're saying; as an example ... Like The "YELLOW Cardinal" in Both Ohio & Alabama ... But Trust Me; This doesn't appear to be a “RED-Breasted” Blackbird ... I thank you for your Time and Interest; and If I EVER get Lucky ENOUGH to capture this Beautiful Bird on film I will Find a Way to Send you a Copy (Not to Mention a copy to The "Kansas Audubon Society") for Proper Identification.
