Someone like Messi doesn't come around so often and it's just amazing to see him play. Not everytime granted but he's learned from his failures I'm sure of it. He's should be everyone's inspiration because not all of us are gifted with the strength and the height of a Cristiano Ronaldo. Messi shows everyone that despite his height disadvantage he can make defenders look like complete fools with his pace and his body movements. No one could have predicted what Messi has turned into over his career especially facing the pressures of Barcelona. If they would retire jerseys he definitely deserves it with the lasting effect he's had on la Liga. All that aside I know that the day both Ronaldo and him retire the footballing world will definitely be immensely grateful and their historic careers will be told for many years to come. Does anyone have an answer for why Coutinho is as absolute non-factor and under achiever with Barca? I watch every Barca game and it just appears he plays timid, scared and afraid to make mistakes. I think it is difficult for him to play with Alba, Suarez and Messi, it looks forced and awkward when Coutinho plays with them.

Not Sure which game Alejandro was watching but other than Sevilla's two goals (one of which came from a giveaway from Messi and the other where everyone thought the ball was going out of play) the defense actually didn't have any difficulties especially the second half. Sure Messi scored the goals but it wasn't his solo superb goals, he had help, and that's the purpose of a team. He was in the right place at the right time.Pique had a pretty good game to me and was only truly "beaten" on that yellow card he received. He was literally an inch away from getting a foot on the shot for Sevilla's first goal, he was up in attack , the only man on a counter attach and found himself in a 1v1 with the defender which resulted in a corner. Umtiti had a decent game considering he just came back, Semedo and Roberto played well, Alba was not as involved but he played decent. The only person i would say that didn't play that well was Vidal. With all that said, Sevilla is no push over, especially at home. There is a reason they've only lost one game at home all season prior to today's game.

Just a month ago, it looked like Barcelona got no problem. But as soon as Arthur got injured, the struggle started. The big problem in FCB is the midfield. Big lack of creativity and offensive skills. And it's undeniable that with the end of Iniesta/Xavi Era that's exactly what we lost. Rakitic's game style is not vertical enough, he's not really giving speed in transition of the ball, and rarely takes risk in long vertical passing. Bousquets is probably the best at his position, and the creativity is not he's first job. It's a good thing we have Arthur in team, give me some hope. It's very frustrating for me, the team becomes dependent of Messi in two different sectors.

The defensive lapses were mostly down to the team selection. Against Sevilla away from home, we had Rakitic, Busquets, Vidal, Coutinho, Suarez and Pique. That's 6 slowpokes playing against a team that loves counterattacking and has pacy wingers and midfielders. Not sure what everyone was expecting. The moment I saw the line up, I knew we are shipping goals. Ideally, Dembele, Malcom and Alena should have started considering they are fast and have the legs to press. Also, Umtiti was mistake prone considering this was his first match in months. From an attacking sense, we did well in the 2nd half especially the last 30 minutes after Dembele came on. Alena came and improved it even further because in his absence, there was no midfielder capable of consistently carrying the ball forward under pressure.

When Messi retires it's going to be a sad day for football. I watched this kid when he was 20, and to see him grow through the game is just a blessing. It's no surprise that he carrying this Barca team, but that in turn makes you question valverde's management. Especially with the quality Barca have.

I wonder if once umtiti fully heals Valverde would be willing to try something like a 3-6-1 to give Coutinho and Messi a chance to do what they both like to do which is facilitate their teammates in an attacking midfield position. Have a back 3 of Pique, Lenglet, and Umtiti. 2 defensive midfielders in Rakitic and Busquets. Alba on the left, Dembele on the right. Coutinho and Messi both playing that attacking midfield role with Suarez of course up top. I’d honestly just like to see if we could make it work.

The major issue is valverdes starting 11 picks for example Suarez has to be benched to give some of the younger players a chance and to make him want to work for his playing time. Also the absence of artur has been very bad for us since he helps take off some creative pressure from Messi while providing better control in the midfield than Vidal for example

Messi helps and hurts the team, has been like this for a long time. He is so good that everyone relies on him, Messi is always the man on that team. Barca buys new forwards that shine at other clubs to help Messi but when those forwards come, Coutinho Dembele Alexis Sanchez Neymar, they don’t produce the same because of Messi. And if Messi is having a bad day no one steps up because they’re waiting for Messi to do it. These players lose the desire and confidence to be the leader.

Big Jordi Alba fan... but he is mostly to blame defensively...well only in the first half...he pushed up too high and against a player as fast as Navas i think that was a mistake on his part...no one on that pitch could match Navas at full tilt...just him and maybe Messi...but in the second half he fell back and all was well i believe...i think i should praise the coach for the changes too...which did cause said shift...also think Samuel was pretty decent for his first game since november is it?...his passes bypassing the midfield were really good...all in all very decent game from the whole team

Arthur´s comeback is important right now. This guy does an incredible job in the midfield and almost every time he played, we played a great match. Also Coutinho needs to play as CAM, thats the only way he will function proparly in our team. And I want him to function because he is a quality footballer. I don´t know the way we play now is just so unattractive, sure Messi scores and carrie´s everybody but thats not how it should be. I kind of dont get it everything was fine and then of a sudden we started playing not as great as we did before.

Would agree with him for some points but than again he isn't anylising the whole season. Barca has always been heavily dependant Messi just as much when pep was there especially 2010 to 2012 to score so that isn't new. However this season especially first 6 months it was balance with dumbele suarez putting them in, but suarez lost form dumbele got injured and Arthur so last few weeks it has become Messi Messi, and it can be concerning however if suaez goes back in form dumbele back 100% and Arthur and even rakatic than the next 3 months will be another story. Biggest concern is coutinho which is the only barca player which has not performed all season.

When Valverde brought on Roberto and Dembele at the beginning of the second half the game changed completely and Barcelona took control. I’d also like to add they’re not “dependent” on Messi, they build their plays around him (just like any good team would and the same way it did with Guardiola).

If messi is injured dembele Suarez coutinho step up. Dembele and coutinho are used to being the 'go to' Instead of supporting act. Messi being in the team actually is detrimental to these players careers at this point.

There should be another column in that opening graphic just for Messi. Yes Suarez is in a slump. Yes defense is having trouble (remember they had a crisis some years ago). Yes Coutinho is a flop.
