Fishing for catfish in the summer heat can be tough on the fisherman due to the heat and the difficulty in finding catfish in the summer. Learning how to catch catfish in the summer when water temperatures climb into the 90's means being able to have access to a lot of water depths. Choosing the best catfish bait for summer catfish is a priority for most catfish fishermen, and in this catfish fishing video I discuss some of the best baits for catfish that work for me.

When you have a good back you never really appreciate your total well feeling until you injure it and it doesn't recover! Two surgeries and many, many, hours of angushed therapy and then the life of a delicate back makes you realize how days of pain free anything were great! Take care and I appreciate your effots!

I don't have an injury but I do have severely pinched nerves in my lower back that is extremely painful to walk. Have not been able to fish or take the boat out for 18 months. Have endured physical therapy, steroid shots and finally RFA where the nerves are killed by burning. Still unable to walk much without pain. Enjoy all the catfishing videos since I can't go myself. Please keep on fishing.

I have had many back problems having seizures. I threw out my sciatica out last year, It hurt pretty good.I was brushing my teeth and coughed, my back pooped at hip level, my left leg went numb and I fell over. I couldn't stand up straight or get in to the chiro for 4 days. I slept on the floor to be able to sleep. The day after the chiro I headed out for catfish. Take care of yourself Dieter!!

Fish do follow their food more often than not. I tend to toss some corn or bread on the water when I get wherever I’m going. Get the shad to move in or the bluegill. Almost always produces better numbers than when I don’t do that. Other times I’ve tried tossing chum out for cats. Still not as productive as getting schooling fish to feed. And as far as the back injury goes. I slipped on the mud on the way down the bank one night and pulled something in my Back to the point I could barely move without pain. Still managed to bank 5 blues that night. Each one was a battle. Probably never gonna forget those fish or the pain to get them 😂

Hi Dieter, I was born with a defect in my lower spine and since 5th grade I have had back trouble. In grade school I had to give up baseball for awhile till I rested my back. About 3 weeks, then i could play again. I learned to live with it. I was ok till high school wrestling then it went south again and i was on my back in bed 3 weeks. I had to give up wrestling. The doctor I saw didnt tell me it was a permanent spinal defect. He just said I couldnt wrestle anymore. I enlisted in the Navy in 1969 and fell 12 feet from a web ladder and had to go to the hospital at Great Lakes in IL. The doctors there told me my back injury, when I fell revealed a defect that needed some major surgery to fix it and at 18 years of age I wanted nothing to do with a Navy surgeon and a knife. I had heard too many stories anout the square needle and rusty knives so no way Jose. The doc asked me, "do you want to stay in the Navy or go home?" It was New Years Eve, 1969 and I had my military ID. I opted for the ticket home. It was party time. That is when the fun ended. I grew up and worked in labor jobs up to age 50. Then I started driving bus and stopped getting the type of exercise I needed to keep stomach and back muscles strong enough to keep the spinal defect from causing problems. It didnt take long before my hunting suffered as did the walks that took me to my fishin holes. About 1995 I noticed I wasnt as sure footed as I was before. Then in a few years I had trouble kickin out rabbits from the multiflora rose patches. I quit the bus company and started walking. My back and legs got a little better. Then I started having problems again in about 2015 when I was driving a paratransit bus. Long hours and a bad drivers seat and now I am walking with a walker, or 2 canes. I lost my cdl because I went on the needle for insulin/diabetes. I been limping along ever since. To make matters worse I gained a lot of weight when I went on insulin, lost my job when the DOT took the cdl, and stopped being active. I am in a lot of pain most of the time but as I slowly lose weight, the pain shifts around. I think I am getting better, but at 70 Years Old, it is an uphill battle. I am all wobbly, I am not able to navigate the riprap along the Mississippi River where I live and the places on the Rock River I like seem to all be privately owned now. I still make a couple trips to the squirrel woods when I can but they are short walks. No more deer hunts or climbing trees and using tree stands. I sit on the ground when I hunt but I have no idea how I would drag a deer out if I would get one. If you are having back problems, get it x-rayed. If necessary wear a weight lifters back brace. They are not expensive. Your back will get worse if you don't rest it. At least brace it. Lift properly. Do not over do it. Take it from an old pro. Back problems do not heal themselves. Oh, and find a good Chiropractor. You will appreciate their advice and their way of treating the spinal problems. Good luck Ron Baum

I had a serious back issue and walking was almost impossible. When I would mow the yard, I was only able to make one pass before I needed to sit down and rest it. A yard that usually takes me 1.5 hours took me over 4 hours to do. It even affected work until I went and had a Cortisone shot to deaden the nerve. Never had a back issues since that day and that's been over 9 years ago.

In California, we are not allowed to boat fish with as many poles as you use; well, it's good and bad; less chances for casting different baits but less tangling. How you can handle 5-6 poles in the water at the same time while bait fishing by yourself on a boat, sounds too much like work to me. Thanks for posting.

Agree on this year’s summer bite. It’s been a bit spuratic and the same holes day to day aren’t consistent. Been lucky to have a few good days but that was after finding the fish. I’m mostly fishing from my kayak or accessing bank spots with it. Either way, I love my medium action 6’ 6” Berkeley mudcats. I’ll drag a 7‘ 6” rod when I know I’ll be casting for distance but they’re a bit cumbersome on the kayak. I’ve thought about the shorter slimecat rods but just haven’t pulled the trigger. If you wanna have some fun reeling in the teeners get yourself one of Luke’s Cats n Carp rods. 7ft med light action. Not sure how they’d do dragging but channels are a blast on’em! Take care and best of luck with your back.

2 ruptured discs L4 & L5. They had been bulging 10 years ago causing some pain from time to time. Ruptured 6 years ago and took me to the ground. Pinched the left sciatic nerve. Took 4 cortisone rounds before all the pain stopped. Shots have lasted about 6 years but pain started up again about 6 mo. ago. Just got cortisone shots last Friday. Went before the pain got too bad this time. May need one more round but need to give another week before we schedule another round. Get it looked at so you know what is going on. Cortisone shots are way better than surgery, and my back doctor/surgeon agrees. Shots as long as they are effective.

Back problems... Yes. I've had them. Lose weight, exercise, for me they usually are caused by poor sleep position for too long. I favor my right side while sleeping. My trick is to every time I roll over to my left side, sisters stretch my left side out in other words I'd make my body like a bow sideways with this short string side to the right and the long both side to the left. Also.. sleeping on my back is much better but I have problems staying asleep when on my back. Hope you get better soon. The other tricks are to exercise those parts of your back. Don't nurse it too much. Get those parts moving and stretch. There are many KZfaq videos on the subject.

Hi Dieter newly found your channel here and just getting into catfishing as actually targeting the fish. Something i've heard about summer fishing and was wondering if its true. Basically, they said something about the water temperature being way up there in upper 80s and in waters with low currents it creates a sort of pocket where the higher so many feet are warmer and have oxygen in it and lower is cooler and some reason no oxygen? And so thus having to not fish the bottom and raise baits up? Maybe thats why your using those boards i dunno?

I was also wondering if you're in north carolina, what lake system are you fishing on?

New sub here! Been following the channel for several weeks now. Great stuff!! Question: I live in East Texas. Just got back into fishing and have recently been taken my 13 yr old daughter bank fishing multiple times (Don’t own a boat). We’ve tried for catfish, bass and crappie in multiple lakes and a local river. Basically no luck. We’ve given up for now due to what I feel is the main factor- Temperature. Still hot here. Assuming we are doing things, for the most part correctly on our end, when do we start trying again? Should it simply be based off of when the temps start cooling down? Any specific temp to watch for? What are the main factors? Seems like everyone has something different to say on the topic. Thanks so much, in advance for your time!!!!! Keep the awesome videos coming!! 😁👍🏻

Now until November is a good time to be out there. Cooling water temps will mean many fish are moving closer to the bank to feed and look for food, along with bait fish that are moving shallow.....the worst time to catch catfish is June / July....

I hurt mine much more as a young man but I finally started listening to the old timers who proclaimed I'd hurt myself if I didn't stop with one behavior or another, so I stopped. I'm 67 and a power lifter because I always want to be able to pick my wife up if she should fall. (She has and I did) She has Degenerative Disk Disease and has had 3 fusions so far and I don't believe they have plans to stop any time soon. She's also had both hip joints replaced plus a few surgeries that have nothing to do with the skeleton. She suffers from chronic pain and pain that is debilitating. She's the strongest person I've ever known and feel certain I'd have killed myself long ago if I had to suffer the same level of pain that she has to endure every single day. My wife is my hero, seriously! She's a real life badass!

Go waste time fishing if you not going to keep the fish and waste money and time going out there to fish especially when it's hard to catch them in the morning during the summer time and catch and release if I'm going to go out and spend money on gas and bait and spend time catching fish in the heat of the summer I'm going to take them and put them in the ice chest and take them home and cook them
